New spirit of Christmas
is Bluevale WMS theme
BLUEVALE — It was all so
beautiful ... the night, fresh and
crisp with gently falling snow, the
home exuding the warmth of wel-
come with all its fascination of
Yuletide sparkle and gaiety, and
the final meeting of the year, the
Christmas one, with Jesus left in,
was a deepening enrichment of
the rhythm of life together
This was the WMS meeting of
Bluevale Presbyterian Church at
the resjt`dence of Mrs. Harvey
Rbertson -The•program rum-
(769enced with a call to worship
and the singing of carols, fol-
lowed by devotions by Mrs.
Joseph Walker and Mrs. Glenn
Golley suggesting that instead of
making Christmas a cdmmercial
extravaganza resulting in total
exhaustion, we must put Jesus
back into our hearts and truly
worship Him in song, prayer, and
study. Refrain from excess with
gifts. Think of the homeless,
rr.verty-stricken folk in our
midst and distribute necessary
gifts to them. Share.
The topic, the Birth of Christ,
was in charge of Mrs. Harry El-
liott, assisted by Mrs. Keith Mof-
fatt, Mrs. Ross Mann, and •Mrs.
William Mundell. Surely they
convinced all 13 ladies in at-
tendance that in this day of
worldly unrest, each of us must
get down to the business of put-
ting Christ back into our Christ-•
mases and our lives. Extol His
name! Put Him on a pedestal! In
our search for Christ if we reach
out to others with love, show
concern for them and their prob-
lems, His love reaching out to us
will g1rtde,ps away from the side-
tracking temptations of this life
to 'the wonder and joy of Christ
and His unique birth, so that
when we think of Christmas we
think of Him, and will teach our
children so to do.
Interesting reports were sub-
mitted from the various secre-
taries, discussions of business
items ware held and the meeting
closed with carol singing, prayer,
and delicious refreshments
served by Mrs. Joseph Walker,
Mrs. Glenn Golley, and Mrs.
Harvey Robertson.
ment, Mrs. Dorothy Logan; audi-
tors, Mrs. John Kerr, Mrs.
George Procter; nominating
committee, Mrs. Bert Johnston,
Mrs. Sam Pletch.
The "In -church Service" com-
mittee is to look after the shut-ins
for Christmas. Mrs. Wheeler
asked that the names of shut-ins
be given to this committee.
The guest speaker, Miss
Lavonne Ballagh, of Wingham
was introduced by Mrs. William
Coultes. Miss Ballagh gave a
Christmas presentation, assisted
by readings by Mrs. William
Coultes. She presented the,
Christmas story from a different
angle so that we might realize the
extent to which we have missed
the most important gift of Christ-
mas. The real Christmas gift is
an unopened gift under our
Christmas trees. Itis God's gift to
us — the gift of faith, new life and
hope.
Mrs. Ross Anderson thanked
Miss Ballagh.
A great deal of interest was
shown in the book displays set up
by Mrs. Janisa Coultes, who
spoke for a few moments about
books that would make good gifts
for Christmas. A social hall hour
was enjoyed at the close of the
meeting.
