Bantam °A°s Lose
two to Clint , n
The Wingham Bantam "A"
team travelled through the storm
to Clinton Nov. 26 only to return
with a 2-0 4oss. Sixteen penalties
were handed out with 10 of them
called against Wingham and the
Wingham players found out they
couldn't score goals sitting in the
penalty box.
Even after the game they were
wondering what they had to do to
get the puck past Clinton's goal -
tender. He made a number of re-
markable stops to rob the team of
scoring chances.
The much -improved Clinton
team also beat the Bantams 4-1
last Thursday night. Clinton
struck with three quick goals in
the first period. In the second
period PeteNoGoodall put Wing -
ham on the scoreboard by getting
a hard shot past Clinton's goalie;
Daryl Holmes drew the assist.
Clinton's number 5, Gibbings,
scored his second goal of the
night near the end of the second
period giving Clinton a 4-1 lead.
Neither team was able to score in
the third period.

nmen down Wiarton 901
uring Weekend Jr game
Wingham Ironmen added
another win to their efforts this
year as they easily beat the Wiar-
ton Dynamos 9-1 Sunday night at
Wingham.
Wiarton opened the scoring at
16:45 of the first period. The rest
of the period was rather slow with
the Ironmen tying the score with
2:50 left in the period.
Looking like a different team
when they stepped back on the ice
for the second period, the Iron -
men starting out -hustling and
out -skating the Dynamos. An un-
assisted power play goal by Jim
Blackwell at 17:57 put Wingham
in the lead and within 3:30 Wing -
ham had added three more goals:
Wingham PeeWees
win second game
Wingham PeeWees won their
second game of the young season
by beating Mitchell 5-4 in the
Wingham arena Nov. 24.
Mitchell opened the scoring
with a goal by Dan Graves. Wing -
ham replied with a goal by Jeff
Moore, assisted by Brett Camer-
on, and then went ahead when
some good stick -handling by
Dave Montgomery resulted in
another score.
Montgomery scored again to
give Wingham a two goal bulge
before Tom Uniac found the net
for Mitchell. Moore got his
second goal of the evening with
assists going to Cameron and
Byron Thompson, then topped the
evening off with his hat trick goal
assisted by Cameron. This made
the score 5-2 for Wingham.
Mitchell came back to make
the game very interesting, scor-
ing two third period goals and hit-
ting the post on another attempt.
Dale Fisher picked. - up both .
Mitchell goals.
PeeWee home games are every.
Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come out
and cheer, -
Mike Montgomery assisted by
Gord Kinahan; an unassisted
goal by Ron Riley on a slapshot
from the blueline that went right
through the Wiarton goalie; and
the last goal of the period by
Kevin Carter assisted by Dave
Keiffer.
During this period there was
some excellent penalty killing by
the Ironmen and fine goaltending
by Brian "Gator" Wall as Wing -
ham had a total of 14 minutes of
penalties called against them.
Ironman Dale Whitfield cap-
tured a hat trick for the night as
he scored two powerplay goals
one minute apart, Jim Blackwell
and Bernie Haines assisting.
Dave Keiffer, on a pass from Jay
McLaurin, scored Wingham's
eighth goal and a power play goal
by Jim Blackwell with Bernie
Haines setting him up ended the
scoring in the game.
STAR SELECTION: 1st Star,
Dale Whitfield, Ironmen; 2nd
Star, Jim Blackwell, Ironmen;
3rd Star, Ed Liverance, Dyna-
mos.
Coach George said he was
pleased with the team's perfor-
mance and felt the players had
given a real TEAM effort. Dale
Whitfield was wearing the No. 8
sweater (which Jim McGee usu-
ally wears) and he took quite a
ribbing as it is felt that the No. 3
must have something to it as the
one wearing it has been scoring
well and has obtained a star
'rating in the games. There may
be bidding for that sweater from
now on.
Next week's game is with the
Fergus Green Machine. Fergus
and Wingham are fighting for
that first place spot ' and Fergus
has just a four point lead right
now, but the Wingham team is
ready to cut that lead. The Fer-
gus-Wingham games this year
have been pretty exciting hockey.
Unfortunately the fan attendance
hasn't been very good so far this
year and the team ' may feel a
little let down, especially when it
has been playing fine hockey and
working hard to be in second spot
in the league. If the fan en-
thusiasm were as good as the
players, the Wingham arena
would be packed every Sunday
night.
