tions,

in Intermediate C hockey
The Goderich Sailors scored
two goals late in the third period
to defeat the Wingham Royals 7-5
in an exciting OHA Intermediate
"C" contest at the Wingham
Arena Friday night.
The Royals' Bob Armstrong
gave his team an early lead when
he connected on a goal -mouth
pass from Larry Robinson. The
Royals continued to outplay the
Sailors throughout the period but
goals by Jim Hayter and Dave
•Wolterbeek gave Goderich a 2-1
lead before the end of the first
period.
Wingham came out in the
second and continued to com-
mand the play but were frus-
trated by some strong goal-
tending until the eight minute
mark of the period when the
Royals' "production line" ex-
ploded for two goals in nine
seconds. The first came off the
stick of Al Dickson from Bill
Brown and Gary Lisle and then
Brown scored from Dickson and
Lisle, and the Royals led 3-2.
Two minutes later Ken Meriam
scored for Goderich to tie the
game at 3. The see -saw battle
continued as Bob Hillis gave the
Royals the lead again on a power
play goal — assists to Armstrong
and Robinson. This lead was
short-lived as Hayter and Steve
Buchanan scored goals in the last
two minutes of the period and the
Sailors led 5-4 at the end of the
second.
Once again the Royals hit the
ice with all kinds of enthusiasm
and with only a minute gone in
the, period Wingham's big
shooter, Bill Brown, tied; the
game at 5-5 with assists to Niel
Rieman and Gary Lisle.
For the balance of the period
the large crowd on hand was
treated to some fine end to end
offensive hockey with the goal -
tenders — Fleischauer for the
Sailors and Paul Heffer of the
Royals making some big stops.
Finally at 13:38 a slight de-
fensive lapse by the Royals gave
the Sailors' Meriam a big oppor-
tunity and he made no mistake.
Ron Sowerby rounded out the
scoring with an insurance goal at
16:22 and although the Royals

Wingham outshot Clinton 29-18
in a close checking game that
saw lots of penalties. The Lions
took 47 minutes and Clinton 37.
Wingham's next home game is
Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. against
Seaforth.
pulled their goaltender in favor of
the extra attacker the score
ended Goderich Sailors 7, Wing -
ham Royals 5.
FROM THE STANDS ... This
was a disappointing loss for the
Royals and their supporters. For
45 minutes they dominated play
but at the final buzzer they still
came up short . . . Certainly it
was a much improved effort
since the 14-6 shellacking the Sai-
lors handed the Royals in the
exhibition schedule ... .
The scoring for the Royals was
pretty well limited among five
players with Bill Brown again
leading the way with two goals
and an assist. Gary Lisle was
credited with three assists, while
Bob Armstrong, Larry Robinson
and Al Dickson had two point
nights . . . Nice to see that Al
Dickson is getting his skating
legs back. He led several end to
end rushes with no one on the ice
able to catch the speedy right
winger .. .
Three stars for the Royals in
this game Al Dickson, Bill Brown
and Paul Heffer .. .
Manager Danny Montgomery
is still looking .for a trained first
aid person totravel with the team.
and act as trainer. Anyone in-
terested in filling the position
should get hold of Dan as soon as
possible .. .
This Friday night the Royals
face the defending All -Ontario
champs and presently unde-
feated Port Elgin Sunocos. It
would give the Royals a big lift if
they could upset the Sunocos so
come out and give the Royals
some real vocal support.
