Howick wins
first game
The Howick Juveniles won.
their season opener 5-4 over Blyth
Juveniles last week.
Garth Dickert's one goal and
two assists played an important
part in the game, and the rest of
the team played a strong check-
ing match.
Blyth was leading 4-3 at the 17 -
minute mark of the third period
when Jerry (The Flying Pole)
Olechowski scored his first goal
of the season to tie it 4-4.
With Steve Coulter displaying
some good goaltending, Howick
held on until Al Bragg scored the
winner from Randy Clarke at the
18 minute mark, and from there it
was good defensive hockey.
Other Howick scorers were
Hary Gibson and Don Adair.
Blyth goal getters were Terry
Pierce, Brad Bromley, Steve
Robinson, and Brian Bromley.
Howick's next game is Sunday
against Listowel Beavers.

MONEY FOR PROFITS
For the next few days, at first
and last recess, a jar filled with
pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters
and silver dollars will be on a
table in the gym. Any students
can make ,a guess for 10 cents.
The Sports Club is sponsoring the
event and with the proceeds, will
buy new uniforms for the girls'
sports teams. For the person who
wins, their award is one-tenth of
the total amount received by the
sports club. The money will be
presented to the winner in silver
dollars.
I, and everyone else in our
school, hope the event will be
successful and that we may hold
more guessing type games in the
future.

VOLLEYBALL
The tryouts for volleyball
started this week at Howick Cen-
tral School. After school and
maybe at recess time,practlses
will be held for interested stu-
dents. Mr. Livermore will choose
the team wisely and will look for
certain qualities in each mem-
ber. We will look for ability and
good sportsmanship and I'm sure
will choose a team Howick Cen-
tral can be proud of,
Mr. Livermore on Tuesday of
last week cut the tip of his thumb
off and had to go to the hospital to
get it sewed on and bandaged. He
was back at school later the same
day and it apparently wasn't that
serious.

CHOCOLATE BARS
Again this year the students
council is sponsoring the selling
of chocolate bars. The mpney
from this will be used to pay for
the ice time used in physical edu-
`cation periods at the Community
Centre. Each child may try to sell
as many chocolate bars as he or
she can. The person selling the
most bars will be issued a gift.
Please help support the students
council and buy a chocolate bar.
