Miss Leaver dies
in London hospital
A native of East Wawanosh
Township and resident of London
for close to 60 years, Miss Amelia
Jane Leaver died Tuesday,
November 8, in Parkwood Hospi-
tal, London, Ontario. She was in
her 85th year.
Miss Leaver was the daughter
of the late Peter Leaver and.
Annie Milner and was born in
East Wawanosh on January 16,
1893. She received her elemen-
tary school education at Fordyce
School, West Wawanosh, and in
1920 she went to London where
she worked as a housekeeper for
Hoffe, 217; Bruce Skinn, 212;
Marg Moffat, 220; Keith Moffat,
She was a member of New St.
James Presbyterian Church,
London.
The late Miss Leaver rested at
the R. A. Currie and Son Funeral
Home, Wingham, where funeral
service was conducted Friday at
two o'clock by Rev. John G.
Roberts. Interment followed in
Wingham Cemetery,
Pallbearers were Albert Coul-
ter, Norman Coultes; John Nor-
man, Howard Walker, George
McGee Ernest Beecroft.
Surviving is one .brother,
Charles Leaver of Lucknow.

Joseph Edward Jacklin passed
away at Huronview, Clinton on
Tuesday Nov. 8th in his 84th year.
He was born in Turnberry
Township and farmed on the 4th
concession Grey all., his life. He
was predeceased by his wife Lily
Mae Conley in 1973, son George,
and a brother Garry.
Surviving are five daughters 1

dies in hospital
Passed away Saturday
November 12, at the Wingham
and District Hospital, William
John Harrison of Gorrie, aged 75
years.
Mr. Harrison was born in
Howick Township and was pre-
deceased by his wife, the former
Violet Pearl Dodds, in March of
1977. He is survived by three
sons, Allan of Gorrie, Jack of Ed-
monton, Alberta, and William
Jr., . Wroxeter. There are two
brothers, Melvin of Preston and
Lloyd of Huronview, Clinton; and
one sister, Mrs. Bob (Evelyn)
Fleming, Alton; 13 grandchil-
dren; four great-grandchildren
nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was pre-
deceased by one son James, one
grandson, two sisters and three
brothers.
Funeral service was held from
the Davidson Funeral Home,
Gorrie, on Tuesday, November
15, at two o'clock. Interment fol-
lowed in Wroxeter Cemetery.
Rev. Wesley Ball was the of-
ficiating minister.
Pallbearers were Gordon Lout -
tit, Lloyd Townsend, Bob Hastie,
Stewart Higgins, Dane Griffith
and Bob Elschner,
Wingham native
dies at Goderich
Mrs. Margaret Mabel Johnston
died in Goderich Nov. 11 follow
ing a lengthy illness. She was 87
years old and had resided at 97
, Lighthouse Street before moving
to the Maitland Manor nursing
home.
Mrs. Johnston was born in
Wingham on Sept. 12, 1890, to
Archibald and Margaret (Link -
later) MacDonald. She later
moved to Goderich, where she
married Roderick G. Johnston.
Mr. Johnston died in 1973.
During her life, Mrs. Johnston
was a member of Knox Presby-
terian Church and a life member
of the WMS there. She was also a
former Sunday School teacher
and choir member.
She is survived by sons Eric of
Port Albert and Grant of Toronto,
and daughter Mrs. Gordon (Bet-
ty) Elliott of Blyth; also seven
grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren. e4.,
The funeral was held at 2 p.m.
Nov. 13 at McCallum Funeral
Home, with Rev. G. L. Royal con-
ducting the service. Interment
followed at Maitland Cemetery,
Goderich. Grandsons John, Don
and Grant Elliott and Bryan Al-
lan and great-grandsons Rick
and Neil Elliott were pallbearers.

Elmer Purdon
employee
for many years
A well -know and highly re-
spected resident of Wingham,
Elmer Davidson Purdon of 166
Diagonal Road, passed away
suddenly Tuesday, November 8,
at the age of 72 years.
Mr. Purdon was a son of the
late James C. Purdon and Bar-
bara Jane Stein and was born in
West Wawanosh Township. He
attended SS No. 3, Wawanosh and
the Wingham High School and
during the early years of his ca-
reer, he was employed as a tele-
grapher. He was on the staff of
CKNX for several years and from
1959 until 1970 he was part owner
of Maitland Redi-Mix.
On October 3, 1929, Mr, Purdon
married the former Florence
Elizabeth Douglas of Belmore in
Toledo, Ohio. They lived in Wind-
sor before coming to Wingham in
October of ,.1944. She survives,
with one daughter, Mrs. Perrie
(Gail) Homes, Wingham, and two
grandchildren, Trudy Homes and
Daryl Holmes, both of Wingham.
There are two brothers, Harris
Pardon of Wingham and Bill R.
Purdon, Whitechurch; and one
sister, Mrs: Calvin (Jean) Robin-
son, RR. 1, Belgrave.
He was a member of the
Masonic Lodge.
The late Elmer Purdon rested
at the S. J. Walker Funeral
Home, Patrick Street, where
Rev. Barry Passmore conducted
service Thursday at two o'clock.
Interment followed in Wingham
Cemetery.
He was borne to his final rest -

G. E. Gallaher
dies in Edmonton
George Edward Gallaher died
suddenly Saturday, November
12, in Edmonton, Alberta.'
He was born December 10,
1918, the youngest son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gallaher of
Wroxeter. He leaves to mourn
one brother Either of Penticton,
British Columbia, and one sister,
Mfrs'. Bob (Iva) Michener, St.
Clairsville, Ohio. He was
predeceased by a brother Jack in
1937 and a sister Alba in 1966.
Cremation took place in Ed-
monton with interment to follow
in Wroxeter Cemetery in the
spring. Donations to the Ontario
Heart Fund may be made
through the Davidson Funeral
Home in Gorrie which is in
charge of arrangements.
Mrs. C. Higgins
buried Monday
Mrs. Margaret Higgins passed
away after a long illness on Fri-
day, November 11; at her late
residence in Blyth, in her 82nd
year. Born in Turnberry Town-
ship, she was the former Mar-
garet Brown. She was the widow
of Chester Higgins who prede-
ceased her in 1961. She had lived
in Blyth for the past 27 years.
Mrs. Higgins is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Charles (Lenora )
Davidson, London; one son,
Joseph A. Higgins, Mitchell; two
grandchildren and five great
grandchildren; one niece and one
nephew.
The funeral service was held
from the Tasker Funeral Home,
Blyth, on Monday, November 14,
with Rev. Cecil Wittich offi-
ciating. Burial ws in Wroxeter
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Donald
Craig, Donald Young, Charles
Johnston, Graham Wray, Clar-
ence Henning and Kenneth Jack-
son. Floral tributes were carried
by Calvert Falconer and William
Dalrymple.

seen Thursday
An interesting travel film de-
picting interesting sights in Hol-
land was shown at St. Paul's '
(Anglican) parish hall on Thurs-
day evening. Colored slides high-
lighted points of interest in Ger-
many, Austria, Switzerland,
France and Belgium.
The pictures covered the route s
to be followed by a touring group
during the first two weeks in May
next year. a

aldson of 52 Bristol Terrace,

former Emily Fox, she was the
widow of Simon Donaldson who
predeceased her in 1955. She

Carter of Spartanburg, Pen-
