Visitors the past week with Mr. and Mrs: James Warrell were Mrs. Ray Flelschauer of Strat- - ford and Mr. and Mrs. Bill John- ston and family of Toronto. Mrs. Ernest Parks of Arthur spent a few days last week with Mrs. Norman Harding. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wendt of Toronto were Sunday guests with Mrs. E. A. Schaefer. ' Mr. and Mrs, Anson Demerling attended the funeral of the for- mer's brother-in-law, Ed Maas in Hamilton on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ron McClement, Sandra and Tom visited over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Johnston in Sarnia. Mr. and M>rs. Barry Darcey, Jeff and Jason were 'Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nicholson and family at James- town. j - Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Yoeman (nee Linda Espensen) who were married Saturday evening in Wroxeter United Church. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Foerter and Mr. and Mrs. John Bannikafa of Waterloo went to Montreal and attended the Ottawa -Montreal football game held at the Olym- pic Stadium. • Mrs. Gerald Martin`,Mrs. Wil- liam Sothern and Susan Winters, employees of Elwood Smith, Listowel, attended a Retail Gro- cers Convention on Sunday held in the Constellation Hotel, To- ronto. Saturday guests with Mrs. Elsie Strong and Mrs. Verna Gal- braith were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Strong of Oakland, Calif. and Mrs. Vera Pennington of Wing - ham. Friends of Mrs. Crosby Sothern will be sorry to hear that she had another plastic surgery operation on her hip on Friday. We all wish her a speedy recovery. St. Stephen's Church, Gorrie, will join with Trinity Church, Fordwich on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. for morning prayer when Geoffrey Parke -Taylor, Suffra- gon Bishop of Huron, will be the guest preacher. A reception will follow in the church basement. M.r. and Mrs. Glenn Johnston attended a commercial horse meeting on Sunday at Mr. and Mrs. Ken Lamont's at Paisley. Joe Bennett of Gorrie visited one day last week with Mr. and Mrs. James Vittie. Mr. and Mrs. Les Halliday and Mrs. Ken Graham visited Sunda' with Mr. and Mrs. Cal Halliday and family at Maple. DELICIOUS DISHES WHITECHURCH — Wild fruits and plants used by pioneers were discussed at the third meeting of the club which opened with the 4- H pledge. After Mrs. Purdon dis- cussed the fruits and plants, Mrs. Elliott discussed the British set- tlers and their food. The group learned that wild apples were discovered by John McIntosh and still bear his name. The girls also digcovered where certain foods in their,ilieti the from, such as roasts from Eng- land, potatoes from Ireland and oatmeal porridge from Scotland. Janet Laidlaw demonstrated how to prepare Irish soda and Kathy Purdon prepared finnan haddie. Plans for *Achievement Day were discussed. The home assignment is to try out an English recipe. Group work included working on finnan haddie. Roll call was answered by Lori _ Purdon, Lori -Jamieson, Kathy Purdon, Kendra Purdon, Faye Irwin, Karen Beecroft, Mandy Miller, Janet Laidlaw, Mary Moore and Joann Pickard. Linda Moore was absent. The minutes were read by Janet Laidlaw. The meeting closed with re- peating of the 4-H creed. At the next meeting Oct. 17 at Mrs. Wal- ter Elliott's, Kendra Purdon demonstrates making Dutch chocolate, Lori Jamieson how to make hot potato salad, Faye Irwin how to make split pea soup and Kendra and Kathy Purdon will clean up.
