Funeral rites
Saturday for
Mrs. Gowing
Mrs. Georgina May Gowing of,
359 Edward St., Wingham, died at
the Wingham and District Hospi-
tal on Wednesday of last week in
her 82nd year. She had suffered
only a short illness.
Mrs. Gowing was the former
Georgina May Wooddisse, a
daughter of the late George
Wooddisse and his wife, Sophia
McCullough and was born in
Maryborough Township,
Wellington County on August 11,
1896. She was married to Melvin
Bruce Cowing at Rothsay on Dec.
4, 1918. Her husband died in 1 62.
Mrs. Gowing was a member of.
the Wingham United Church.
She is survived by three ns
and one daughter, Carl Gowin ,
RR 2, Bluevale; Norman Gowing,
Blyth; Howard Gowing, Tiverton
and Mrs. Bruce (Donelda)
Deckert, Cambridge; one sister
and two brothers, Mrs. Emerson
(Jessie) McNeil, Drayton;
Richard Wo"'oddisse, Rothsay and
Hugh Wooddisse, Palmerston.
There are 13 grandchildren and
12 great-grandchildren. She was
predeceased by three brothers,
Walter, Thomas and James
Wooddisse.
The funeral service was con-
ducted at the R. A. Currie and
Son Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday by Rev. K. Barry Pass-
more and interment was in the
Wroxeter Cemetery. Pallbearers
were six grandsons, David, Neil,
Kenneth, Paul and John Dowing
and Wallace Chalmers. The floral
tributes were carried by Ross
Dannabecker, David Wheeler,
and Bruce Corrigan

W. Stanley Cook
dies at 86 years
After a long illness, William
Stanley Cook died at 86 in the
Wingham and District Hospital
Oct. 2. He had farmed on the sixth
line of East Wawanosh in early
life, and moved to Belgrave until
three years ago when he became
a resident at the Callander Nurs-
ing Home, Brussels.
Born June 23, 1891 in East
Wawanosh, Mr. Cook was the son
of the late Fred W. Cook and
Mary Maud Harrison. He was
married June 25, 1924 in West-
field to the late Violet Buchanan
of RR 3, Blyth. She predeceased
her husband on March 27, 1973.
Mr. Cook is survived by a
daughter Mrs. Bruce (Gwen)
Marshall of London; brother
Lewis Cook of Belgrave and 14
grandchildren. He was prede-
ceased by one son John Stanley
Sept. 12, 1967 and sisters
Mrs. Harvey (Lila) Black and
Mrs. John (Mary) Buchanan.
He was educated at SS No. 13,
East Wawanosh public school
and was a member of the Knox
United Church, Belgrave.
Funeral service:was held Oct. 4
from the S. J. Walker Funeral
Home at 2 o'clock with Rev. John
Roberts officiating. Pallbearers
were grandsons John Marshall,
Kirk Marshall, George Cook, Wil-
liam Cook, Stephen Cook and
Sam Cook. Flower bearers were
grandchildren Susan Cook and
Peter Cook. Burial followed at
Brandon Cemetery, Belgrave.

Wingham and District Hospital
on Monday, October 10, Wil-
liam Joseph Tiffin of Frances
Street, Wingham, in his 6641
year. Surviving are his wife,
'the former Pearl Mathers; one
daughter, Adele of London; one
son, Robert, London; two
sisters, Mrs. Harry (Olive)
Boyd, Windsor, and Mrs. Wal-
lace (Vivian) Wilson, Auburn;
and one brother, G. W. Tiffin of
Wingham. Funeral service is
