receive awards
A Lucknow youth and former
student of F. E. Madill Secondary
School, Wingham, Stan Loree, is
one of .four area students named
winners of Rene Descartes
Foundation scholarships for 1977
at the University of Waterloo.
These scholarships are awarded
each year to freshmen mathem-
atics students entering univer-
sity. They are named after the
French philosopher and math-
ematician of the 17th century.
Stan receives a $200 scholar-
ship awarded for the first year of
his studies.
Joan Coulter of Gederich, a
student at Goderich District
Collegiate Institute, and Barry
Shantz of RR 2, Walkerton, a
student at Walkerton District
Secondary School. are recipients
of scholaitships valued at $2,400, •
divided into a $600 first year
scholarship and a $600 fellowship
in each subsequent year. Another
Walkerton student, Glenn Ander-
son of the Bruce County town,
receives a $600 scholarship for his
first year of studies.
