noon. The theme of the meeting
was "Citizenship", convened by
Mrs. William, Wilson, who gave
the openi{Ig Invocation.
The scripture from Proverbs
was read by Mrs. George Pitten-
dreigh and Mrs. Elmer Harding.
A Skit on citizenship entitled
"Who, Me?" was presented by
Mrs. S. Bride, Mrs. C. Carswell,
Mrs. Bert Wylie, Mrs. H. Doig
and Miss M. McElwain. The skit
emphasized leadership develop-
ment. Mrs. Wilson conducted a
question period. Mrs. Carswell
read a poem, "To every man
there openeth a high way and a
"This Is My Task". Prayer was
offered by Mrs. Carswell and
Mrs. Einer Harding, UCW presi-
dent, presided for the business.
Reports were given by the secre-
tary and treasurer.
The Fall Thankoffering service
is to be Sunday, Oct. 2 at 8:15
p:m. with guests. Enrichment
Day will be held in Wingham,
Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. with six dis-
cussion groups. It was moved to
have a turkey supper Wed-
nesday, Oct. 26 and it was de-
cided to ask the Evening Unit to
look after a booth exhibit for the
Howick Fair.

diction.

STREET REPAIR—Work is going ahead on the reconstruction of Shuter Street in
Wingham. Lavis Contracting of Clinton is being paid $97,287.75 to do the job, which should
be completed by the middle of next month.

Mr. Needham, who holds
bachelor's and master's degrees
from the University of Western
Ontario, is currently involved in a
doctoral program at Waterloo.
He is particularly interested in
studying the response of print
media to extreme geophysical
events and natural hazards.
The sociology course will in-
clude a discussion of social roles,
the significance off institutions
such as the family and govern-
ment and processes that make
for change and stability in so-
ciety.
Mr. Scott first came to UW in
1960. He has, also taught at the
University of Toronto and Wilfrid
Laurier University and for a time
served as provost at the Univer-
sity of Guelph. He has had many
years of experience in the busi-
ness world as a personnel and in-
dustrial relations administrator.
Both courses will continue until
mid-December. They ma'' be
taken for credit towards a
university degree or, simply
attended for interest's sake. If
attended for interest, they are
free of charge. Fees are waived
in any event for persons 60 years
of age or more.
- The courses at Sacred Heart
are. among a 'nilmbe' being of-.
fered by UW off campus this fall.
Others will be starting the same
week at Palmerston and Orange-
ville.

Five youths
charged with
theft at club
. Five youths from Alagham and
area have been charged with
break, enter and theft under the
Criminal Code in connection with
an incident at the Wingham Golf
and Curling Club Sept. 1. .
Facing charges are Robin
David Walker, .17; Terry James
Netterfield, 17; Brian William
Larose, 18; Kenneth Alvin
McEwen, 20; and Keith William
Snowdon, 21. They are to appear
in Wingham provincial court Oct.

An employee at the golf and
curling club reports a storeroom
door at the club was damaged,
some bottles were broken and "a
couple cases" of beer were taken.
