Ladies loss round 1
in battle of sexes
Though the fairer sex emerged
on the short end of the scoreboard
in both matches, Monday night's
"Battle of the Sexes" in Wroxeter
provided plenty of entertainment
for players and fans as ladies of
the recreational softball team
challenged their husbands. '
Trailing 20-1 at one point in the
first match, the "Kuties Too
battled back to within nine by the
end of the game, losing 27-18. In
the second game the women led
up until the seventh inning, even-
tuallylsuccurrtbing 24-19.
Things were made even more
interesting by the arrangement
which placed a male pitcher and
catcher on the women's team,
with women filling those posi-
tions for the men.
Trophies were awarded follow-
ing the games to the "guy who
tried the hardest" and the "girl
who tried the hardest" in each
match. Winners in the first game
were Cameron Edgar and Joyce
Statia; Murray Gibson and
Tharon Riley took the honors in
the second.
This is the first year for the
ladies' recreational softball pro-
gram, Wroxeter parks, board
chairman Harvey Heimpel rioted,
but at their very first meeting
they attracted enough competi-
tors to form two teams. Hopefully
this match will become a regular
feature of the program, and next
year the husbands better watch
out!
