Wingham arm P team wins
tournament at Wroxeter
The Wingham BPs won the first
annual Wroxeter fastball tourna-
ment, held the weekend of July
15. Wingham won all its four
games to capture the "A" cham-
pionship.
In the first genie on Saturday,

Ed Diner. Bqb Armstrong led the
hitting with a triple and a double.
In the first of three games play-
ed Sunday, Wingham beat Ripley
5-0. Don Edgar threw a five hitter
while Wingham collected eight
hits. Bruce Stoll had a double,
Bill Brown and Grant Coulter
tripled and Daer had two singles.
Later the -wane day, Wingham
defeated Goderich 7-1. Bryan
Coultes and Deer combined to
throw a four hitter while the
Wingham bats stung Goderich
pitching for 10 hits. Deer led the
Wingham batters, collecting
three hits. Brown also had two
singles.
Wingham now entered the
finals against Mildmay, also un-
defeated to this point. Mildmay
scored the first run in the top of
the third inning on two walks and
two singles. In the bottom of the
third, Grant Coultes led off with a
walk. Daer followed with a tow-
ering home run to centre field,
putting Wingham in front.
Wingham scored again in the
third and twice in the fifth, com-
bining good base running with the
clutch hitting of Armstrong and

Grant Coultes. Deer shut out the
tough Mildmay club for the rest
of the game, ending up with 12
strikeouts. Overall for the tour-
nament, he pitched 17 and two
thirds killings and allowed only
one pin.
ThelPs are in action every

ham and invite spectators to
come out and see some excellent
fastball.
Queens win one
but lose three
The Wingham Brophy Queens
defeated the Clifford girls 11.8
when they played at the Wing -
ham Park Sunday, July 17.
Lynne Bridge was the top bat-
ter for Wingham with a double
and two triples; Esther Nethery
had a triple, a double and a single
and Karen Reid had a triple.
The Wingham girls journeyed
to Walkerton to play the Hanover
team on. Thursday, July 21. The
final score was Hanover 10,
Wingham Brophy Queens 4.
Esther Nethery had a good
night at the plate with a home
run, a double and a single, Ruth
Nethery had a triple and Sharon
Brophy had two singles.
The new Wingham ball park
was the scene of one of the sea-
son's most exciting games as
Teeswater downed the Wingham
Brophy Queens 10 to 8 on July 24.
The Wingham team got off to a
fast start, scoring five runs in the.
first inning. They then ran into a
rather effective pitcher and did-
n't have any luck at hitting.
The girls almost pulled it out in
the bottom of the seventh, when
Esther Nethery hit a long ball,
with two on base. only an excel-
lent catch by the Teeswater cen-
tre fielder spoiled the rally. Patty
Brophy got a long awaited home
run-
Wingham Brophy Queens
played in Belmore on July 25 and
were soundly defeated by Bel'
more, 35-19. It was a cold and
windy night and neither team
played the calibre of ball it is
capable of.

Invitational
attracts 140
Over 140 entrants were attract-
ed to Wingham Golf and Curling
Club's annual invitational
tournament July 21.
Ted MaCahill of Indian . Hills
won the Labatt trophy for low
gross and L. Kirkwood of Gode-
rich took home the prize for low
net score, presented by William
Hanula on behalf of Electrohome,
Ltd.
The Invitational Committee
wishes to thank everyone who
worked so hard to make the event
a success: the starters and score-.
keepers, the, cooks, the ladies'
club members and the local busi-
nessmen, whose donations to the
prize table were much appreci-
ated.

Queen Contestant
chosen at Delmore
BELMORE — Ty „ ivil uson
was chosen ,to represent the Bel -
more Chamber of Commerce at
the Howick Queen of the Fair
contest. This decision was made
when the organization held its
July meeting at the home of Bill
Mulvey. Minutes of the last meet-
ing and the financial report were
read by Ralph Dickson.
Janet Marston reported that
$1,400 was raised from the dance
held in Mildmay on July 2. Plane
were made for three . more
dances, two in August and one in
October.
The Chamber of Commerce re-
ceived an invitation from the
Fergus Chamber of Commerce to
the Highland Games in that town
on Saturday, August 13.
Building committee chairman
Walter Renwick reported that the
cassons for the new arena have
been poured. Construction was
slated to begin in mid-July. The
sale of material from the arches
of the oldarena realized $4,400 for
the arena fund.
The Saugeen Conservation
Authority has inspected and will
make suggestions for the use of
the Belmore Park.
SIX CLYDESDALES entered by Tolls of Blyth were among the numerous equestrian
entries in Blyth's centennial parade last weekend.
"ONE VERY POPULAR BAND in the Blyth parade was this pipe band from Clinton
Branch 140 of the Canadian Legion. Bands were sprinkled throughout the long procession
and ,all were received enthusiastically by the spectators.
