Children have
chance to act
Anyone between the ages of
nine and 14, who has an inclina-
tion for the theatre, could get his
or her chance to particpate in
theatre workshops with the Blyth
Summer Festival this summer.
Thanks to grants from the Vil-
lage of Blyth and the Ministry of
Culture and Recreation, work-
shops under the direction of Kirk
Grayson, Beth Shier and Jim
Schaefer will be held from July 4
until August 17.
The goal pt the 'workshops will
be the production of three
original scripts with the children
as performers. Mr. Schaefer, co-
ordinator of the workshops and
actor -writer -director with the
Blyth Summer Festival, has
written two scripts for the work-
shops, entitled "The Maitland
River Mud Monster" and
"Tree". The third production will
be created by the children diving
the course of the workshops.
It is hoped that, following per-
formances in Blyth, the shows
can be taken on a short tour of the
area. Anyone interested in host-
ing the show in a park, camp-
ground or school is asked to con-
tact Mr. Schaefer at 523-9455 or
Brenda Doner at 523-9300.
Mr. Grayson, a recent
graduate ' of the performance
stream of Ryerson Polytechnical
Institute will conduct workshops
including masks; , make-up tech-
niques, puppets and improvisa-
tion ' exercises.
Miss Shier, who is presently
studying 'theatre , production at
Ryerson, will show the children
the basics of lighting, set design
