The pull was held during the second annual Kinfest on the weekend. Mr. Curran pulled 178 feet and one inch. Second annual Luc.i;:now Kinfest success The second annual Kinfest in Lucknow was a huge success last weekend with large crowds in at- tendance for every event. The weather remained sunny and warm for the outdt`er events. It all started Friday evening with bed races on the main street. It was, as other events were also, well planned and carried through by Kinsmen members. The Lucknow Leos won the bed races and were presented with a trophy ..by Neil McLeod of La- batt's Ontario Breweries. Mem- bers of the team were president Wayne Bell, Rick Conley, Ron Johnson, Uppinder Mehan, Mike McDonagh and Suzanne Corrin who had the easy part of sitting on the bed. After the bed races a Monte Carlo1Night was held in the arena with some wins and probably a few losses as well. It continued until 1 a.m. with bingo and games of chance. Saturday at 9 a.m. events began with a soap box derby. Winner of the under, nine cate- gory was Fred Flanagan; winner of the age nine and 10 group was Brian Degroote; winner of the 11 and 12 age group was Joey Mor- rissey; and winner of the over 14 BED RACE WINNERS—Winners at the bed races held during Lucknow's Kinfest were Lucknow Leos. Watching from left are other members of the team: Rick Conley, Uppinder Mehan, Suzanne Corrin (on bed) Mike McDonagh and Ron ,Johnson. second annual Brophy Queens win fifth game On Thursday, ,June 23, the Wingham Brophy Queens travelled to Mount Forest where they lengthened their winning streak to five game. Kathy Cruickshank had eight strike- outs in four and one half innings and, Esther Nethery came in to take over the pitching duties to finish the game. Lynne Bridge smashed a home run down the third base line in the 3rd inning and Patty Brophy lined a drive down the third base line for a home run in the 7th. Sharon Brophy had a good night at bat with a triple and three singles while Ruth Nethery had five safe hits. The girls played good defensive ball for most of the game and the final score was 2542 in favor of Wingham. The next home game is Sunday, July 3 at 7:00 p.m. against Han- over. BLUEVALE A Leishman family reunion• was held last week at the\home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Garniss. Visitors were Mrs. Norine Coad, Hanna, Alberta ; Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Gray; Decker, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Overend, Milton; Mr. and Mrs: Grant Bearss, Niagara Falls,t.Ont.; Mrs. Percy. Barker and Mrs. Fred Barker, Goderich; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Leishman, Belgrave; Miss Eva - Marie Hannah and Mary Edith Garniss, Toronto. age group was Bob Wallace. •Ali the contestants looked as if they were having a good time competing with their homemade carts. All wore helmets in case of accident and there was one mis- hap during a race. The unidenti- fied driver was a little shaken but was fine. An equestrian show was held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Results of this were not available at press time. During the weekend a midway with varied rides for the young and the young at heart was, held with candy floss, hot dog and cold drink stands to tempt people. A beer garden with a Country and Western Band was held in the arena from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. when a steak barbecue was held. After the barbecue a dance to the music of Bittersweet started at 9:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon was left to a tractor pull with entries from all Over and again, many people out to watch. In order of merit, the following are the first, second and thrid place winners: 7,000 open class: Bill Henderson, RR 3, Kippen ; Art Helm, Lucknow and Harvey Holland, Clinton; 9,000 open class: Bill Henderson, Dennis Westbrook, Burford and Clete Dalton, RR 7, Lucknow; 8,000 stock class: Ken Fills, RR 1, Clinton; Wayne Whalls, RR 3, Shedden and Graham Cassidy, Teeswater; 10,000 stock class: Fred Dutot, RR 3, Clinton; Norm Clark, RR 1, Fingal and Robert Simpson, RR 1, Glencoe; 16,000 stock class: Norm Clark, Paul Murray, Seaforth and Don Fer- ris, RR 1, Tiverton; 18,000 'stock class: Paul Murray; Paul Smith, RR 2, Listowel and Don Ferris; 7,000 pound four wheel drive: George Tillier, Port Elgin and Russell Lavigne also of Port El- gin; 12,000 stock class: Fred Dutot, Norm Clark and Robert Simpson.
