THE BLYTH CENTENNIAL DANCE COMMITTEE PRESENTS Wingham Public School releases lield day results -1-11Hr /4 Wingham Public School held their annual field day with the following results. Champion of the Midget Boys' division was Paul Good and run- ner-up was Mark Moore. First place winners in the various events for Midget Boys were as follows: 100 metre, Quinn O'Donohue; 200 metre, Paul Good; 400 metre, Doug Stevenson and Paul Good; 800 metre, Quinn, O'Donohue; 400 metre relay, Greg Walton, Paul Good, Doug McFarlane, Greg Mansell; shuttle relay, Doug Stevenson, Mark Moore, Billy Tolton, Dennis Adams; standing long jump, Robert Leedhan; running long jump, Paul Good; high Jump, Mark Moore and softball throw, Paul Good. Stephanie Gaunt was champion of the Midget Girls' division and runner-up was Valerie Ricker, Winners in the various events were as follows: high jump, Shelly Wraith; running long jump, Stephanie Gaunt; standing broad jump, Debbie Wright; 100 metre, Stephanie Gaunt; 200 mettre, Stephanie Gaunt and 400 metre, Stephanie Gaunt; 800 metre, Valerie Ricker; softball throw, Ellen Rodger; 400 relay, Valerie Ricker, Stephanie Gaunt, Kim Gibson and Julie Ni- chols; and the shuttlerelay, Su- . san Hubbard, Kim Gibson, Val- erie Ricker and Stephanie Gaunt. In the Junior Boys' and Junior Girls' division, the champions were Doug Wood and Kim McGregor with runners-up Terry Rintoul and Sarah Bender. Winners for the shuttle relay were the same. Winner of the Tri- ple jump in the Junior Boys was Doug Wood. Intermediate Boys' champion was Bob Alton and the Intermedi- ate Girls' winner was Susan Nixon. Runners-up were Pete Goodall and Karen Wood. Winners of the various events in these two divisions were.as fol - Local, guest artists provide entertaining variety program WHITECHURCH — Vocal and instrumental numbers, readings, step -dancing and choir selections from local and guest artists pro- vided an entertaining program when the local Women's Institute presented a variety concert in the Community Memorial Hall, on '.9`z-idv ay eening. President Mrs. Russel Mc- Guire was emcee and began the evening with a warm welcome to everyone. The singing of the National Anthem got things off to a good start and was followed by many varied acts. Piano instrumentals were pro- vided by Sandra Currie and by Mrs. Jim Nesbitt of Ripley. Mrs. Nesbitt also played a violin solo, accompanied by pianist. Mrs. Garnet Farrier. Violin numbers were also played by Jack Why - tock. Mrs. Farrier accompanied a choir composed of local girls, Janet Laidlaw, Vicki Scott, Clara Milligan, Lisa and Tammy Stone, Dawn Adams, Donna Thompson and Nancy and Karen ,Quipp. They sang, "Do, Re, Me" and "Down by the Riverside". Readings were given by Mrs. Ronald Forster who talked about "The New Minister's Wife" and "Carol Burnett Roller Skating". Mrs. George Kennedy gave the comic reading, "Maggie and Jiggs-Going to Heaven". Country -western instrumental nurnbers, as played by a three- piece band, set many toes tap- ping. Mrs. Jean Conley played banjo, Elroy Laidlaw, violin and Joanne Ducharme, piano. A pantomime, "The Lousy Tramp", was presented by Bob Soloman, Janet Laidlaw, Mrs. George Fisher, Mrs. McGuire and Mrs. Farrier, Guest artists from out-of-town contributed greatly, to the pro- gram. Ted Elliott of Brussels, do- ing some fancy footwork as he mastered the Clog, Jig and Reel, entertained with step -dancing. Laverne Bramhill of Palmerston accompanied' himself on the guitar as he sang two, numbers and was brought back by popular demand to sing more. A quartet, Dawn Bramhill and Janice Quanz of Palmerston, Ronnie and Ken- neth Vines of Kurtzville, per- formed several numbers, the girls singing and the boys accom- panying them on guitars. A fitting finale was provided by the area mixed choir which sang "The Old Lamplighter" and "I'd Like to Teach the World To Wroxeter Little Jeffrey Musgrove, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Musgrove returned home from Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Grimwood and family, Hanover, visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Willys Kalish and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Nixon, Fordwich, held a family dinner in honor of the birthday of her mother, Mrs. George Griffith. Those attending were the guest of honor, Miss Margaret Griffith, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn, McKercher and Mr. and Mrs. John Mc- Kercher of Jamestown, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Larsen, Sarnia, Mrs. Leo Duggan and David of Stay- ner. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Walker and family, Toronto, spent the week- end at their summer home here. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Braniff were in Niagara Falls, Ont., for the weekend where they visited their son and family, Mr. and Belgrave Personals Mr. and Mrs. William Coultes and Janice, Doreen Taylor and Gary Hopper all attended the Umpire School in Hanover on Sunday afternoon and all received their cards. Mr. and Mrs. William Nahr- gang ,of Rostock, Mrs. Glen Brindley and Susan of Dungan- non were Sunday visitors with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil- liarn•Gow. Mrs. Jack Todd of Goderich visited on Monday with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. William Gow. The Belgrave Branch of Women's Institute are invited to attend the June meeting of Wing - ham WI on June 16th at 2:30 p.m. Miss Laura Collar will be the guest speaker. Willard Armstrong and Wil- liam Gow, who have been pa- tients in Victoria Hospital, Lon- don, were able to return to their homes last Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs David Hanna and family of Hanover spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Wil- lard Armstrong and attended the Storer and Mayberry wedding in Knox United Church, Belgrave on Saturday evening. Mr . and Mrs Melville Ma thers spent the weekend at Penn Yan, New York and attended a wed- ding there. Robert Hibberd and Leonard James attended the North Perth County Loyal Orange Lodge held in Trowbridge last Friday. Mrs. Kenneth Lichty and Wayneof RR 1, Milverton, visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hibberd on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hibberd visited with Mr. and Mrs. Warren Zurbrigg of Harriston last Thurs- day. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse visited on Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Russel Walker. In the eve- ning Mr. and Mrs. Roy Morgan of Wingham, Mrs. Norman McPhail of Toronto and Miss Irene Paton of -Huronview, Clinton, also 'visited at the same home. Mr. and Mrs. James Lamont received word on Saturday of the passing of her uncle, Lorne Harmer of St, Marys. Mrs. James Baker and Mark of London visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. George Michie. Mrs. Leonard James, Mrs, Ross Higgins Mrs. Ivan Wight - man, Mrs. Walter Scott, Mrs. James Hunter, Mrs. Earl Ander- son and Mrs. Norman Coultes at- tended the District Annual in Clinton last Monday. Mr. and Mrs, Leslie Bolt and Mrs. Elaine Nixon visited on Fri- day with Mr. and Mrs. Don Player and Brian of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bolt visited on Sunday with Mrs. William Bolt of Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Snell of London' spent the weekend with her brother, Harold Keating. Sing". Mr. and Mrs. Jack Edgar and family, Georgetown, called on Mrs. Edgar's mother, Mrs. Harvey Coupland, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Garrett, Blyth, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mac Allan on Sunday. Mr. Garrett was a teacher here for many years and left in 1928. Mrs, Stan Gallagher, Mrs. David Kaster, Mrs.. Harvey Coupland and Mrs. Ken Bennett returned home recently from a tour of Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry and report a very enjoy- able trip, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rae, Brantford, visited Mrs. Harvey Coupland, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Allan, and other friends on Satur- day. We are pleased to have Mr. and. Mrs. Matthew Elliott of Mark - dale as permanent residents in the village now, having retired from the bakery business May 31. The Wroxeter Cotirimunity, Park is looking better every day thanks to the Wroxeter Recrea- tion Community and Parks Board. New playground equip- ment has been installed for the use of area children. Local teams are making good use of the ball diamond. Three students have been hired for the summer under the Young Canada Works Pro- gram to assist in beautifying the park and operating theplay- ground. Fin. chairman gives report of arena sales BELMORE — The chairman of the finance committee reported on the recent sale of arena ma- terial when the Chamber of Com- merce held its regular meeting on June 1. The building com- mittee chairman also gave a report. Contestants for the title of Howick Pair Queen are asked to contact Mrs. Ralph Dickson before June 30. This is open to girls 18-23 years of age who live in the Belmore area. The first draw for a 81,000 prize will be held in October. This is for the lottery sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Elsie Henderson was pianist for the service • with devotions by Rev. Van Den Berg. Mrs. Marion Sholdice was wel- comed to the Home at Monday afternoon's program. Old time music was provided by Marie Flynn, Lorne Lawson, Norman Speir and Cecil Skinner. The Clinton Christian Reformed vol- unteers assisted with activities. A MAN The residents were entertained on "Family Night" with a puppet show, "No Strings Attached". The theme of the show was the story of Jack and The Beano Stalk andwas directed by Cheryl Smith assisted by Richard Keelan and Denny Garcia. The Huronview Auxiliary had a very successful. spring tea and bake sale on Wednesday after- noon. Senior Citizens' week will be from June 19 to June 26 this year and the residents are counting on seeing a number of theirfriends and relatives.
