Public health nurse is
Thankoffering speaker

Carrick Township, Bruce County,
was the guest speaker when the
Melntosh United Church Women
held their. Thankoffering meeting
With, guests in attendance from
Belmore, Teeswater, Gorrie and
Mildmay.
Mrs. Woodhouse was intro-
duced by Mrs. Mac Inglis. She is
originally from the Maritimes
and moved to Mildmay last
August from Montreal. Her topic
was "Health", defined as the
mental, physical and social well-
being. of a person.
The speaker explained that the
job of public health is to keep
healthy people healthy. A de-
tailed account of the immuniza-
tion program was explained and
also the most important aspect of
good health, nutrition. She went

on to say that as a rule, rural
people are healthier than urban
people, nutrition -wise. The
danger to expectant mothers
from smoking, drinking and
drugs, in regard to the health of
the baby, was also discussed.
A question and answer period
followed during which the
speaker gave many helpful hints
and information about public
health. Mrs. Walter Renwick
thanked the speaker and pre-
sented her with a gift.
President Mrs. Ivan Mawhin-
ney opened the sheeting With a
call to worship and a hymn was
sung. Mrs. Robert Wood read
scripture from John's Gospel. A
meditation, "Light in Dark
Alleys", was given by Mrs. Jack
Inglis who also led in prayer.
Joanne Loas of Clifford sang two
lovely duets, "Pass it On" and
"He's Everything to Me".
The offering was received and
dedicated by the ushers, Mrs.
Oliver Dustow and Mrs. Everett
Dustow. Patty Wright and Linda
Renwick sang a duet, "His Sheep
and- • ice; - accompani'pd` .by Gail.
Renwick at the organ. Organist
for the hymns was Ruth Bailey.
The president closed the meet-
ing with prayer and refreshments
were served by the McIntosh
ladies during a social hour.

of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ballagh,
and Miss Barbara Harkness,
daughter of Robert Harkness and
the late Mrs. Harkness, graduat-
ed as Registered Nursing Assist-
ants from the Wingham and Dis-
trict Hospital Training Centre on , $
May 20. Nancy received the -
second highest scholastic stand-
ing.
