McKay Waechter ceremony
Out-of-town guests from
Toronto, Kitchener,
Newmarket and London
were witnesses for a happy
occasion that took place
Saturday, June 2, at three
o'clock at Mary Immaculate
Church, Chepstow. It was the
special day chosen by Rita
Waechter of Kitchener and
Rick McKay of Wingham to
exchange marriage vows
before Rev. ;Ed Hinsperger.
Kathy Walter was organist
and soloist was Maureen
Kelly.
The bride is a daughter of
Jack and Marie Waechter of
Walkerton. Parents of the
groom are Don and Vi
McKay of Wingham. The
bride was given in marriage
by her parents.
The bridal gown was white
lace and she carried an all -
white bouquet of roses, or-
chids and baby's breath. The
maid of honor and
bridesmaids wore pink
taffeta dresses with standup
collars and long sheer
sleeves. Maid of honor was
Noreen Waechter of Kit-
chener and bridesmaids
were Helen Waechter and
Ann Waechter of Kitchener,
Donna Skinn of Wingham
and Judy Lang, Kitchener.
Steve McKay of Under-
wood performed the duties of
best man arid guests were
ushered by Bob McKay of
Grand Bend, Mark
Waechter, Walkerton, Mike
Milosevic and Rick Williams
of Wingham.
The reception was held at
the Knights of Columbus
Hall, Walkerton. Following a
wedding trip to Bermuda,

Traditional white chiffon gown
worn by Teeswater-area bride
A traditional floor -length
gown of white chiffon was
chosen by Patty Schiestel of
RR 3, Teeswater, for the
special day she became Mrs.
Rick Martin. The ceremony
was performed by Rev.
Michael Bennett on Satur-
day, June 2, at 2:30 at
Immaculate Conception
Church, Formosa, amid a
candlelight setting enhanced
by pink tapers in candelabra
surrounded by pink tiger
lilies.
Patty is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Schiestel, RR 3, Teeswater,
and parents of the groom are
Mr. and Mrs: Joseph Martin
of Teeswater. The
newlyweds are residing at
RR 2, Teeswater.•.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride looked very
attractive ` in her feminine
gown styled with fitted
bodice, high neckline
trimmed with lace and pearl
appliques and full chiffon
sleeves gathered into wide
cuffs trimmed with lace and
pearl. The layered lace train
formed a full back bustle. A
small chiffon hat trimmed
with feathers and a flower
held her, fingertip veil
trimmed with lace appliques
and she carried a bouquet of
petal pink gardenias and
ostrich feathers surrounded
by rose New York roses,.
white stephanotis and pink
baby's breath.
Maid of honor was Teresa
Schiestel, sister of the bride,
of RR 3, Teeswater. She.
wore a pink chiffon dress
styled with low neckline and
skirt attachment that tied at
the waistline and formed a
full bustle at the back. She
carried a. round, nosegay of
pink New York roses and
white daisies.
In similar gowns
carrying similar bouquets
were the bridesmaids, Jean
Vollmer, sister of the groom,
of RR 2, Wingham, Nancy
Ross, sister of the bride, RR
1, Wingham, and Joyce
Jermyn, sister of the groom,
Waterloo..
• Wearing a white chiffon
dress with lace trim was the
flower girl, Heather
Vollmer, niece off the groom,
of 'RR 2, Wingham. She
carried a little nosegay
similar to those carried by
' the senior attendants.
Bruce Jermyn of Waterloo
was; best man and ushering
guests were brothers of the
bridal couple, Bill Martin of
Teeswater and Dennis
Schiestel, RR 3, Teeswater,
and the groom's nephew,
Fred Wocks of Teeswater.
Jamie Vollmer, also a
nephew of the groom, of RR
2, Wingham, I was ring
bearer.
Marilyn Grubb presided.at
the church organ throughout
the ceremony and Mrs. Doris
Fischer sang "On This•
Day", "Tlae Wedding", "The
Twelfth of Never', "You.
Light Up My Life", "The
Wedding Song and
"Another You".
Following the ceremony a
reception was held in the
Belm9re Community Centre
where out-of-town guests
from.,'Toronto, Kitchener, -
London, Simcoe, Stratford
and Palmerston Were
received by the bridal party.
The bride's . mother wore a
street -length dress of hose
sheer chiffon with long 'Al
sleeves. The groom's mot ler
chose a street -length dress of
pale yellow sheer with full
long sleeves. ;An honored
guest was .;the bride's
grandmother, Mrs:- Anna
Keip. •
For travelling through
Southern Ontario the bride
changed to ..a sheer white
ress with pink and grey
polka dots.
Local couple is married
in 5t. Andrew's ceremony

marriage vows before Rev.
Paul Mills on June 9 at four
o'clock in St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church,
Wingham. Red roses and
white stephanotis with ivy
surrounded candelabra and
white tapers flickered under
glass chimney globes. Mrs.
Paul Mills was organist and
Miss Joanne Wood played
three solos on piano during
the signing of the register.
The bride is the daughter
of Mrs. Isabel Congram of
RR 5, Wingham, and the late
Harold Congram. The groom
Many friends and associates
pay tribute to Gordon Moir
Knox Presbyterian
Church, Gorrie, was filled to
capacity on Wednesday,
June 20, at two o'clock when
family members, friends
and associates gathered to
pay their final respects to
Gordon S. Moir of Gorrie
who lost his life in a tragic
plane -car crash on Saturday,
June 16. Several classmates
of the former funeral
director attended 'in a body
and nursing staff at the
Clarkwood Estates Nursing
Home in Palmerston, where
Mr. Moir was administrator
at the time of his death,
formed a guard of honor as
the procession left the
church. Rev. Jim Patterson
conducted the service and
interment followed in Gorrie
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eldred
Cather,Norm Fairies, Dick
Carson, Glenn Underwood,
Ben Johnston and Kash
Romchandani. Floral
tributes were carried by Bill
Thornton, Ray Stuart, Jim
Wylie and Dave Butcher.
Gordon Moir was born
June 26, 1928, in Hiensall, a
son of Mrs. Anna Gertrude
(Love) Moir of Hensall and
the late J. Clifford Moir
(1963). He was a funeral
director in the village of
Gorrie from 1956 until 1974
and was still active in
funeral home management
in the village. A faithful
member of Knox Church, he
was an elder there. He had
worked as an administrator
at the Fordwich Village
Nursing Hdme and a
representative for the Mount
Forest Casket Company in
is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Willie VanderWoude of
Wingham. The bride was
given in marriage by her
brother, John Congram of
Medicine Hat, Alberta. Tbey
travelled to the church in a
1932 Oldsmobile driven by a
close neighbor, Doug Conley.
The bride chose a white
floor -length gown designed
by a friend, Mrs. Wendy
Theis of Kitchener. She
carried a bouquet of red
roses and white stephanotis
intertwined with ivy and
baby's breath.
Matron of honor was
Eleanor MacDonald of
Lucknow and bridesmaids
Creative Finds of Mrs. Williams
at rest after 89 years of life
Eighty-nine years of
creative living and service
ended last week with the
death of Mrs. George
Wingham who

Death followed a lengthy
illness.
The former Emily
Cooksey, Mrs. Williams was
born in Basingstoke,
England, on December 18,
1894, a daughter of the late
Mr. and ' Mrs. Alfred
Cooksey. She married Mr.
Williams in Basingstoke and
they came to Canada after
World War I and lived in.
Toronto until 1928 when they
came to this area.
Mrs. Williams worked for
some years as a seamstress
and always had a great in-
terest in crafts, including
rug -hooking, needlepoint,
knitting (especially during
the Second World War),
crochet work and oil paint-
ing, She will never be forgot-
ten because -each member of
her family and many of her
friends possess work done by
her creative hands. She also
worked in her husband's
jewellery store in Wingham
for 12 years.
A faithful member of
Wingham United Church, as
long as her health permitted,
she was a .member of the
Williams o

taking the administrative
position at Palmerston.
,An active Mason, Mr. Moir
was a Past Master of Forest
Lodge, Wroxeter and in 1982-
83 was District Deputy
Grand Master of North
Huron District Lodge. He
was also a member of the
Pal -Mocha Shrine Club and a
Scottish Rite Mason.
Mr. Moir's passing is
mourned by many people,
especially those closest to
him:ohis mother; his wife,
the former Anne Luther, of
Gorrie; his sons, David of
Wiarton and Paul of
Stouffville; his daughter,
Mrs. Warren (Lori) Ball of
Etobicoke; his two grand-
children and his brother
Ke neth of RR 2, Peters -
choir and the United Church
Women. She had also been a
member of the Lawn
Bowling Club, the Curling
Club and many other
organizations during her 55
years of living in Wingham.
She also worked at the
Cancer Clinic for many
years and was active in the
Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Williams was
bereaved by the passing of
her life partner in 1964 and
also was predeceased by her
only daughter, Mrs. Charles
(Muriel) Bates of Toronto.
She is survived by one son,
Dr. G. A. Williams of
Wingham, six grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by
several brothers and sisters

Friends paid their respects
at The Currie -Walker
Funeral Home, Wingham,
until Wednesday, June 20,
when ,funeral service was
conducted at two o'clock by
Rev. J. Rea Grant. Inter-
ment followed in Wingham
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gordon
Walter, J. Luukkonen, Andy
Luukkonen, Robert Wil-
liams, Richard Williams and
Blaine Mullins. Christy Lu-
ukkohnen carried floral tri-
butes.
Listowel resident
dies at Sunnybrook
Mrs. Anson Thornton of
Derry Street, Listowel,
formerly of Howick Town-
ship, passed away Tuesday,
June 19, at Sunnybrook
Medical Centre, Toronto, of
injuries received in a motor
vehicle accident earlier in
the month. She was in her
93rd year.
The former Lottie Pearl
Cathers, Mrs. Thornton was
predeceased by her husband
on June 13, 1948. She is
survived by three daughters,
Mrs. Tom (Loreen) Stokes of
Wingham, Mrs. Charlie
(Joyce) Lake, Atwood, and
Mrs. Andrene (Mary)
Stefanie of King City; three
sons, Bill, Jack and Doran,
all of Gorrie; 24 grand-
children; 19 great-grandchil-
dren and two great -great-
grandchildren. There are
three surviving sisters, Mrs.
Alma Jardine, Wingham,
Mrs. Austin (Lizzie) Haw-
thorne, Listowel, and Mrs.
Alvin (Cassie) Moffat, Kit-
chener; and one brother,
John Cathers of Brussels.
The late Mrs. Thornton
rested at the Gorrie Chapel
of M. L. Watts Funeral
Homes until Friday, June 22,
when removal was made to
Gorrie United Church for
service at two o'clock con-
ducted by Rev. Lloyd
Martin. Interment followed
in Gorrie Cemetery.
Nine of Mrs. Thornton's
grandsons were her
pallbearers and flower
bearers. Donald, Allan,
Gary, Greg, Earl and Doug
Thornton carried their
grandmother to the grave
and Andy, Tim and Murray
Thornton carried her floral
tributes.
DEATHS
were Claudia Sangster of
Misuissauga and Vicki
Mcree of Wingham. All
three friends of the bride
were dressed in floor -length
redffeta with white lace
jackets.

Pointe Clark, cousin of the

Following the ceremony,
dinner was served at St.
Andrew( s Fellowship Hall
where the " tables were
decorated with red and white
silk flowers. The head table
was centred by a wedding
cake topped with three bells
intertwined with ivy and red
roses. This cake decoration
had previously adorned the
bride's mother's wedding
cake. Master of ceremonies
was Debbie Edwards, friend
of the bride and groom.
A reception dance was
held at the Teeswater-
Culross Complex. The
bride's mother wore a street -
length dress of floral crepe
with a white gardenia cor-
sage. The groom's mother
chose a street -length green
floral jersey dress with
matching white gardenia
corsage.
Honored guests at the
wedding were. John
Congram, brother of the
bride, and his fiancee, Tina
Biskup.
For travelling to The
Briars, a resort on Lake
Simcoe, the bride chose an
off-white linen suit with red
Princess Di hat and mat-
ching accessories.
The bride is a registered
nurse at Wingham and
District Hospital and
Brookhaven Nursing Home
and the groom is employed
at Western Foundry Co. Ltd.
The VanderWoudes are
residing in Wingham.

BAKER—Passed away
suddenly at her home on
Tuesday, June 19, Mrs.
Florence Madeline Baker
of Richmond Hill. The
former Madeline Walker,
she was raised in
Wingham. She was the
beloved wife of Garnet
Baker of Richmond Hill
and was also loved by her
many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by six sisters
and a brother, Mr. A. J.
Walker of Wingham. Fu-
neral service was held
at the Marshall Funeral
Home, Yonge Street, Rich-
mond Hill, on Friday
morning. Interment fol-
lowed in the Elgin Mills
Cemetery.
