The auditor, a Mr. Simpson from Thorne Riddell, London, indicated it should not be a problem so long as the hospitalcontinues to receive a regular flow of cash;from the Uealth nistry., . , ' Earlier Ross Procter had raised a question about the cost of thebuilding program and how much of the motley the hospital would have to borrow. Mr. Pike told hip the total cost will be •about.. $1.75 million, of which some $400,000 will come in con- tributions from the ministry, the County of Huron and the Hospital Foundation. The balance will have to .come from the hospital's "present .and future resources" and from 'the fundraising drive, which has set a target • of $400,000, he said. How much the hospital has to borrow depends on the` success of the fundraising; if the drive reached its goal, the hospital would have to borrow about $225,000. He also noted these figures do not include the cost of a new X-ray machine for the radiology department. Later in the meeting Mr. Procter spoke out again, expressing disappointment at the board's decision earlier in the 3,ear not to go along with a recom- mendation from an ad hoc committee to open board meetings to the public. Public access to meetings of publicly -funded bodies is necessary . to ensure ac- countability, he said, and it also is good public relations. He proposed a motion recommending the board again consider opening its meetings to observers from the general public, and this was passed overwhelmingly in a show of hands.
