The choir accompanied by Mrs. Procter sang "Praise to the Lord" and "Give Thanks United Church Women meet in indoor garden setting FORDWICH — The after- noon unit of the United Church Women held its June meeting in the Sunday School room which was decorated to represent a garden with flowers and patio furniture. Miss Minnie McElwain, president, conducted the. business. She opened the meeting with a hymn and roll call, "a plant from the Bible", was answered by 17 members. Plans were made to hold a birthday party at Midwestern Regional Centre this 'week. Miss McElwain closed her part of the meeting with a poem, "Fathers Are Wonderful People". Mrs. Wray Cooper and Mrs. Harold Doig presented their program on "The Garden of Love". They welcomed the group and asked the members to,visit them in the "garden". Students present program WRO ET R —'The piano pupils of Mrs. Art Gibson presented a most enjoyable program of music for their families and friends on Thursday evening in the Wroxeter United Church Sunday School room. Those taking part were Jane, Colin and Amy Darling, Angela Chambers, Dale Schefter, Valerie Brewer, Shannon Werth, Debbie Edgar, Sherri and Pam Bennett, Jennifer, Julie and Lori Brown, Michelle Eadie, Jason Edgar, Julie Gibson, Jennifer Pyke; Sara Woodley, Cathy Oriold and Leanne Fraser. Julie Gibson gave Mrs. Gibson a lovely bouquet of red carnations and. Mrs. Gibson expressed her thanks. The proceeds from. the dessert euchre were $96.80 and she reported the WI road signs are ready to be put up. Plans were finalized for the hospitality centre which is to be located at John Cousin's store during the bicentennial celebrations. Coffee and cookies, will be served and quilts will be on display at the centre: Tickets are being sold on the bicentennial quilt which is being made and also on an afghan. CONESTOGA GRADUATE Mary Ann Welwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. -Gordon Welwood of Wingham; ,graduated from the Business Administration - Accounting: program at Conestoga College, Doon Campus, at its convocation held Saturday, June 16. The WI members will be, serving refreshments at "The Farm Show" which is being held at the Brussels Stockyards June 25 to 27. Donations of homemade, old- fashioned cookies would be appreciated. The roll call was answered by naming a vegetable you never have cooked and a penny for everytime the members nibbled that day was paid to the Pennies for Friendship jar. Edna McLellan gave a reading. The motto, "Eat right, live longer", was prepared by Margaret Exel and read by Kathy Bridge- The guest speaker was Muriel Huth, the . Htfron County dairy princess, from Clifford. She gave an interesting talk on milk and its nutrients and gave a demonstration in preparing a fruit dip and a vegetable dip which was sampled and enjoyed at 'lunchtime along with some fruit bread. THIS GROUP OF MUSICIANS played while people were arriving last Friday evening for the dedication ceremonies of the new shrub garden at the Bluevale hall. Mrs. Carl Johnston was at the piano and Jack Jenkins and Milt Boyd accompanied her on the violin for several old-time favorites. As a bicentennial protect, the hall board planted a new shrub garden. Ladies' Aid meets at .Matheson home BRUSSELS — The Mel- ville Presbyterian Church Ladies' Aid met recently at the home of Mrs. Hazel Matheson, The leader, Ruby Steiss, opened the meeting with a family prayer and a hymn was sung, followed by another prayer. A -Psalm selection and the meditation were read by Mrs. King and Mabel Smith led in prayer. • The secretary's report was given by Mrs. Steiss, the financial report by Berva Dennis and the Sunshine Report by Ethel Long. Mrs. Steiss gave the Guild report in the absence of Leona Armstrong. A reading, "The Bachelor Sale"' was given•hy Mrs. Steiss and it was announced there will be, no meetings during July and August. "Life's Road" was read by Mrs. Steiss and a hymn was sung. Plans were made for the September meeting and the roll call was answered with - tributes to the month. of June. Mrs. Long was in charge of the program and she read a poem on lilacs as well as. another. The meeting closed with the benediction and a lunch was served by Win- nif red Edgar and the hostess.
