Chesley Texaeos blank Juniors 940 By, Peter Bauer The Chesley Texacos blanked., the visiting Wingham Juniors 9-0 in a Bluewater Fastball League game played last Thursday night in Chesley. Eric 'Weatherall was the winning pitcher, scattering five hits through six innings. Harold Clark pitched the last inning for the Texacos, shutting out the Juniors and giving up tubo hits. Chesley jumped on top of the Juniors in the second inning when they struck for five runs on just two hits, making the most of two fielding' errors and a walk. Chesley grabbed two more in , the fourth inning and added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Kent Cerson was the losing pitcher and he surrendered nine runs on nine hits. Only three of the runs were earned. Troy Pocaluyko pitched two innings of shut- out ball in relief and allowed one hit. Armstrongs hold a family reunion BELGRAVE - The Arm- strong family held a reunion at the Women's Institute Hall Sunday afternoon. Fifty-seven family members signed the guest book. Timson belted out two home runs to score five runs. Caledonia scored three runs in the first inning with Timson belting a two -run homer, before his brother Rick singled in the other run. The BPs rebounded by getting two in the second and one in the third, but blew their chances as they made two errors leading off the eighth inning and allowing two men aboard. Timson came through with his second home run, this time a three -run shot. It was a very productive weekend for the BPs as they finally recorded a number of Victories, following a disastrous start in Bluewater league action. J. Timson was the MVP for the tournament and B. Ward of Mitchell was the most valuable pitcher. By Peter Bauer The Wingham Bob Foxton BPs were in desperate need ¢i'i a win going into the Brodhagen Fastball Tour- nament this past weekend following the team's worst - ever start in the Bluewater Fastball League. Winless so far this season, the club needed a victory to build up moral-. The first game of the tournament did not boost spirits whatsoever, as the BPs dropped the opening game by a 5-1 count to Alma. But the BPs came back, playing the kind of ball they customarily play during tournament action. It ap- pears the BPs like to do • things the hard way, losing early they playing tough when the threat of elimination looms over their heads. The team. went on to capture second spot in. the tournament. , ALMA 5, WINGHAM 1 In the tournament opener, the BPs opened the scoring as Ron Smith led off.the first ' inning with a solo home run. That proved to be the only run the BPs would score and was one of only six hits in the game. Alma struck back in its half of the inning to score all five of its run by virtue of a five -hit attack. Both teams were then shut down of- fensively, and the final score remained 5-1. WINGHAM 3, KITCHENER 1 In the second game the BPs defeated Kitchener 3-1 with Dave Burns picking up the win, firing a three -hit performance. Bob Pegg provided the team with the game -winning run by pounding a solo home run out of the park in the fifth inning. Pegg also scored the first run of the game as Bill Brown scored from third base when Pegg was thrown out at first on a ground ball hit to the short stop. Brown doubled earlier in the inning, then went to third on a sacrifice by Glen Gallaher. Bill Robinson scored the other BP run after being issue a walk. WINGHAM 2, SHAKESPEARE 1 Gallaher had two RBIs in the BPs' 2-1 win over Shakespeare. He singled in Pegg in the second and Neil Bieman scored from third base in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to left field. Don Edgar recorded the victory, scattering five hits through six and two-thirds innings, while Burns earned the save by coming on in the bottom of the seventh to make the final two outs. WINGHAM 3, ST. JACOBS 1 The BPs continued to play tough defensively aided by a two -hit pitching per- formance through seven innings by Ron Riley. Group A flew up to Guides. These Brownies also received owl banners for earning 15 badges or more. Tharen Keil earned 38 badges. Crests were given to the Brownies with perfect at- tendance: Lori Angus, Alisa Curzon, Maria Gibbons, Tharen Keil, Julie Lisle, Kendra Merkley, Ansley Simpson, Dianne Skinn, Margaret Skinn and Angela Swanson. Two -year's perfect at- tendance awards went to: Kerri McGrath and Kara Neil. Amy Jo Cretier and Danielle Heibein have had perfect attendance for three years. • Nine tables in play at weekly euchre BELGRAVE - Nine tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the Women's Institute Hall last Wednesday. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Mary Chamney; novelty lady, Mrs. George Drehmann ; low lady, Mrs. Olive Bolt; high man, Leslie Short; novelty man, Garner Nicholson; and low man, William Gow. Pot luck supper will be held June 6 starting at 6:30 followed by euchre. Every- one is welcome. L✓ '" u The Wingham Advance -Times, June 6, 1984 -Page 11 Squirts lase first game of the season The Wingghaln first-year Squirts lost their first game of the season last Thursday to Ripley by a 14-6 score. Wingham led until the fourth inning when Ripley broke loose for five runs, three of which were unearned and they never looked back. ' The Wingham pitching duties were handled by Tim Currie and Peter Poulin. Although both pitchers had control problems, they had little defensive support as seven fielding errors were committed. The Squirts are hoping to get back in the winning track Wednesday when they travel to Bervie and this Thursday when they host Lucknow. Bridge club ends its 46th season The Wingham Dup'1 Bridge Club closed its Oh season with six tables in play last Thursday evening, The Mitchell System was played and winners were: North and South: first, Margaret Kelly and pjheron Freeman; second, Elaine Colvin and Bert Mathers; third, Harley Crawford and Omar Haselgrove; East and West: first, Yvonne McPherson and Jean Hodgins; second, Norma Parker and Pat Hay; ,and third, Margaret Mundell And Inez McGill.
