Deichert-Reid, vows exch
during pretty Church sere
Sunshine blessed the union
of Pamela Audrey Reid and
Richard Edward Deichert,
both of Owen Sound, as they
began their married, life
together following their
exchange of vows on
Saturday, May 19, at four
o'clock. Rev. Paul L. Mills
officiated at the double -ring
ceremony at St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church,
Wingham, and Mrs. Joanne
Bender of Kitchener was
organist. Guitarist Doug
Oesch of Zurich ac-
companied the soloist, Jim
Ramer of Zurich, as he sang
"The Wedding Song" as the
ceremony began, "Ever-
green" and "The Two Shall
Be As One" during the sign-
ing, of the register.
Pamela is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Scott C. Reid
and parents of the groom are
Mr. and Mrs. Edward A.
Deichert. All are residents of
Wingham.
The bride entered the
church to the music of the
wedding march from "The
Sound of Music" and was
given in marriage by her
parents. Her wedding gown
was of elegant sheer
organza, the bodice richly
etched with alencon lace.
The dress featured lilypoint
bishop sleeves, sweetheart
neckline and full skirt
hemmed with scalloped lace
and floating into a pretty
train. A picture hat covered
with organza and trimmed
with alencon lace and
flowers, held a short trailer
veil and she wore a bracelet
which was a wedding gift
given to Rick's great
grandmother by his great
grandfather on their wed-
ding day. Pamela carried a
cascade of white stephanotis
and lilac Charisma rosebuds
surrounding a lilac cym-
bidium orchid and accented
with French lace and mauve
ribbons.
Mrs. Judy Tiedemann of
London was matron of honor
at her sister's wedding and
bridesmaids were Miss
Sherry Green and Miss
Sandra Anger, both of
Wingham, and Mrs. Karen
Grainger of Zurich. Their
floor -length gowns of light
mauve silk jersey were
princess style with spaghetti
straps on plain bodices and
gently flared skirts. The
dresses were topped with
sheer jackets styled with
peplum waists, long sleeves
With ruffle cuffs and high
ruffled necklines trimmed
with alencon lace. Each
attendant carried a cascade
containing purple orchids
surrounding lilac Charisma
roses and a mauve cym-
bidium orchid and accented
with white French lace.
Karen Bender of Kit-
chener, as flower girl, wore a
white eyelet floor -length
dress styled with square
neckline and elbow -length
puffed sleeves and trimmed
with a mauve sash. She
carried a cream puff
bouquet of orchids and light
lilac roses.
Ken Deichertjof Wingham
was his brother's best marl,
Ushers were Kevin Carter of
Wing nam, Patil Cerson of
Mississauga and Brian Reid,
the bride's brother, of
Wingham. Jamie Ramer of
Zurich was the ring bearer.
The reception was held at
the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre
where the head table was
decorated with a three -tiered
round cake trimmed with
,mauve roses. The can-
delabra from the wedding
formed an effective
background for the bride and
groom and dried and silk
floral arrangements decor-
ated the guests' tables. Roy
Bennett of Wingham was
master of ceremonies.
The bride's mother wore a
floor -length gown of frosty
rose polyester with rounded
neckline, gathered bodice
draped to a row of buttons on
the left shoulder, long full
sleeves gathered into cuffs
and gathered skirt. Grey
accessories completed her
ensemble. The groom's
mother wore pearl grey
nishigi in a gown styled with
V neckline outlined with a
gathered collar, wrist -length
dolman . sleeves, gathered
skirt with tulip hemline and
burgundy accessories.
Corsages for both mothers
consisted of white orchids
and baby's breath.
Following the reception,,
the bride and groom left for
Florida, the bride travelling
in a two-piece jade suit and
natural straw hat with a jade
band. Her accessories were
white and she wore a corsage
of pink Sweetheart roses and
baby's breath.
Mr. and Mrs. Deichert are
residing in Owen Sound. The
bride is a graduate of
Conestoga College in Early
Childhood Education and is
employed as a Day Care
teacher in Grey -Owen Sound
Children's Centre. The
groom graduated from
Fanshawe College as an
electrical engineering
technician and is employed
at the Bruce Nuclear Power
Development.
• Out-of-town guests at-
tended the wedding from
Florida, Alberta and several
points in Ontario. Honored
guests were the bride's
grandmother, Mrs. Ella
Irwin of Wingham; the
groom's paternal grand-
mother, Mrs. Josephine
Deichert of Zurich; and the
groom's maternal grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Grainger, Zurich. A
telegram was received from
the bride's uncle and aunt,
Dick; and Greta Irwin of
Aldergrove, B.C., who were
denied the privilege of at-
tending Pam's wedding
because of illness.
Prior to her wedding, the
bride was honored at
showers given by Sherry
Green, Judy Tiedemann and
Sandra Anger at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. John Green,
Wingham, and by the staff of
Grey -Owen Sound Children's

Mrs. John Clark of Dun-
das, Mrs. Claude Bronson
and Miss Carolyn Bronson of
Elmira, visited. one day last
week at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Rowland Ballagh,
Catherine Street. While here
they helped Rowland
Ballagh celebrate his bir-
thday. • Carolyn graduated
recently from Queen's
University, Kingston, earn-
ing her Master of Education
degree. She had previously
earned her BA degree from
Wilfrid Laurier University
.and will be teaching in a Lon-
don school beginning in Sep-
tember.

was installed as the new vice
president of the United
Senior Citizens of Ontario at
the spring rally of the Lake
Huron District held at
Arthur last Thursday.
Seniors clubs members
from Wingham, Arthur,
Fordwich, Clifford, Gorrie,
Harriston, Lucknow,
Wroxeter and. Bluevale
attended the day -long
conference which included
committee reports, the
election of officers and a
guest speaker.

`Friendship in Action' is
theme of UCW meeting
"Friendship in Action"
was the • theme for the
presentation of the citizen-
ship division at the executive
meeting of the Bruce Pres-
byterial of the United Church
Women held in the Pinkerton
United Church last. Monday.

As part of the worship
service, Lillian McCallum of
Hanover told of her in-
volvement with the spon-
soring of a family of Cam-
bodian boat people which
emigrated to Canada in 1979.
The family of seven
gradually increased to 28
and there were many
problems to overcome, but
essentially it was a success
story and a very rewarding
experience for all concerned.
In the afternoon, Mrs.
Helen Frook of Chesley
spoke on volunteering and
told how she became in-
terested in being a volunteer
after spending a long period
of time in hospital. She went
on to give many practical
do's and don'ts for volun-
teers.
A film strip showed how to
be friends with mentally
handicapped persons on a
one-to-one basis. The
program was under the
leadership of Laura
Williams of Port Elgin,
assisted by Pat Woolnough,
Marion Bracken, Mrs.

conducted the business of the
day.' Delegates to the
Hamilton conference annual
meeting in Simcoe reported
on the highlights and all said
they feltthe presentations
were inspiring and enjoyed
the friendship and
hospitality. r
The greatest impact Was
felt from the address by Jean
Bennett of Oakville who
reported on her visit to
Cuernavaca, Mexieo. She
vividly described the terrible
conditions in Central
American countries. The
message sent back with her
was "Pray for us, let your
people know."
Plans are continuing for
the hospitality tent, spon-
sored by the United Church
at the plowing match near
Harriston, Sept. 25-29. The,
theme for the presentation is
"Sharing the Bread of Life".

beautiful floral candlelit
setting .in the Wingham
United Church when Pamela
Elizabeth Gerrie and David
William Tiffin, both of
Wingham, met at the altar to
become husband and wife.
Candles in candelabra
decorated with ivy, daisies
and blue and rose primroses,
cast a soft glow around the
altar where Rev. J. Rea
Grant led them in their vows
and pronounced them
husband and wife during a
3:30 ceremony on Saturday,
May 12. White ribbons and
daisies marked the guest
Local UCW .units will be
asked for volunteers, fruit
loaves and a financial
contribution to defray the
cost of beverages. Banners
based upon scripture related
to bread are requested and
ideas should be channelled
through Ruth Wolfe at
Clifford to avoid duplication.
The presbyterial quilt has
been put together' and plans
for area quilting bees are
being made for July. The
retreat at Silver Lake will be
held June 11, with Rev. Ann
Ross the resource leader.
Reports were received
from Edna Avery,
stewardship division, and
Jessie Clark, leadership
division. The September
executive meeting will be
held in Mount Forest Sept. 10
and the stewardship division
will provide the program.
Helen Welch thanked all for
a good day and closed the
meeting with a blessing.

Given in marriage by her
father and mother, Pamela
chose a floor -length gown of
sateen with schiffle-embroi-
dered bodice featuring a
standup collar and elbow -
length sleeves. A gathered
cummerbund and tie sash
encircled her waist and the
sweeping skirt fell into a soft
chapel train. An illusion silk
fingertip veil was held in
place by a silk foral wreath
and she carried a cascade of
fresh ivy with silk orchids,
daisies, stephanotis, statice
and baby's breath.
Maid of honor was Patty
Brenzil of Chatham and
bridesmaids were Lori
Schultz of. Kitchener, Debbie
Hanula, Wingham, and
Joanne Anderson, Toronto.
They were gowned alike in
floor -length dresses of
periwinkle blue chiffon with
matching jackets with
elbow -length sleeves. Both
dresses and jackets were
trimmed with periwinkle
blue ribbon and the girls
carried cascades of fresh
greens, white daisies, blue
primroses, lavender statice
and baby's breath.
The bride's cousin, Kendra
Merkley of Wingham, was
flower girl. Her floor -length
dress of white eyelet with
short puffed sleeves was
decorated with a waistline
sash of periwinkle blue
chiffon. She carried a basket
of daisies, primroses and
baby's breath.
The, duties of best man
were performed by Mark
Tiffin of Toronto and guests
were ushered by Brian Wall
of Mount Forest, Tom
Haugh, Kincardine, and
Brad Gerrie, Wingham.

Institute ladies hold
final dessert euchre
BRUSSELS - Despite the
rainy weather, approximate-
ly 45 people enjoyed a
variety of desserts last Mon-
day night at the final Wom-
en's Institute dessert euchre
of the season.
The president, Mrs. Peggy
Cudmore, welcomed the
guests. Following the lunch,
euchre was played and there
were enough for nine tables.
The following won prizes:
high lady, Bernice Mac-
Farlane; high man, John
Simpson; low lady, Mrs.
Dorothy Townsend of
Seaforth; low man, Leona
MacDonald (playing as a
man) ; most lone hands, Dick
Stephenson; birthday

The next WI meeting will
be held June 13 at 8 p.m. in
the library and the guest
speaker will be Muriel Huth,
dairy princess for Huron
County. She also will have a
demonstration and everyone
is welcome to attend.

length dress of dusty rose
georgette with draped cowl
necldine and matching sash.

and she wore a corsage of
daisies, mini carnations and
baby's breath. The groom's
mother chose a street -length
dress of rose figured crepe
with accordion pleated
bodice, short ruffled collar
and three -quarter -length
sleeves. Cream accessories
complemented her outfit and
she wore a corsage of
daisies, mini carnations and
baby's breath. Honored
guests at the wedding were
the bride's grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Merkley
and Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Gerrie, all of Wingham.
For travelling to Las
Vegas, the bride wore a raw
silk shirtstyle dress of beige
and taupe with taupe ac-
cessories and a corsage of
yellow daisies. They are now
residing at Mississauga.
The bride was honored at
four showers prior to the
wedding. Mrs. Jack Wallace
hosted one for the staff of
Western University; Mrs.
Perrie Holmes of Wingham
and Mrs. Ozzie Whitfield of
Kitchener hosted one for
friends and relatives of the
bride; relatives of the groom
attended one hosted by Mrs.
Rea Grant of Wingham, Mrs.
Tom Haugh, Kincardine, and
Mrs. Wes Laing, Toronto;
and Mrs. Bob Middleton of
Wingham and Miss Patty
Brenzil of Chatham were
