PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS multiple sclerosis is a crippling
disease of the central nervous system that may
distort and block nerve impulses that control
many vital bodily functions and is the greatest
cause -of disability among young adults in their
prime career and family building years between
20 and 40....and
WHEREAS the cause, cure, prevention and ef-
fective treatment for multiple sclerosis are still
unknown and Canada has one of the highest
rates of MS in the world....it is estimated that
some 35,000 Canadians have MS....and
WHEREAS the Multiple Sclerosis Society of
Canada is the only national voluntary health
agency in Canada supporting programs in
research and providing international research
coordination....and
WHEREAS the Huron County Chapter of the
said Society provides many needed services
for MS patients and their, families in Wingham.
NOW THEREFORE I. William Harris, Mayor of
the Town of Wingham of Ontario, do hereby
proclaim the week of May 7 to May 13, 198'4
as Multiple Sclerosis Carnation Week and urge
all citizens to support the 1984 MS Carnation
Day Campaign to find the cause, prevention
and cure for multiple sclerosis....the
mysterious crippler of young adults....and to
provide necessary servicesfor those who have
multiple sclerosis.

The area riding associa-
tiou elected five delegates
April, 26 to attend the June 14
to 17 leadership convention
in Ottawa.

ich, Heather Redick of
Zurich, Bruce McDonald off
Mildmay, Mac Ingles of
Teeswater and Paul Steckle
of RR 2, Zu'eh were elected
as delega -"s from among 10
nominees.
Nominate alternates
are: Trudy Holmes of Wing -
ham,' Beecher Menzies of
Clinton, Kirsten Armstrong
of Teeswater, Howard Ait-
ken of Goderich and Gene-
veive Madden of Goderich.
Mr. Steckle was the only
nominee who told the 119
Liberal members how he
would vote.
He said his first vote would
go to the agriculture-mitiis-
ter "because I care enough
about him Mr. McDonald
later said he would also vote
for Mr. Whelan on the .first
ballot, but was not prepared
to say how he would vote on
consecutive ballots.'
The president of the
Huron -Bruce Liberal Riding
Association, Jack Horn of
RR 4, Walton, who auto-
matically goes to the June
convention, said he intends
to vote for Mr. Whelan "all
the way".
Huron -Bruce Liberal can-
didate Graeme Craig of RR
4, Walton, who also goes to
the convention automatical-
ly, said he would vote for the
agriculture minister on the
first vote, but is uncommit-
ted after that.
Murphy and
Redick said they are
doing to the convention un-
eernmitted.
The remaining delegate,
Mr. ingles, was absent from
the meeting.
The other two, delegates
from Huron -Bruce are the
youth delegates. Brothers
Paul and Mike Murphy of
Goderich were named for
those positions.
Mr. Whelan was expected
to be in attendance at the
meeting, but Mr. Horn in-
formed the crowd that the
agriculture minister had

However., London -Middle-
sex MP Garnet ,Bloonnfield„
wearing two John Turney
buttons, was at the meeting
and spoke on his experiences
in Ottawa.
Bill Murray of London,
executive director . of of -the
Ontario Liberal Party, con-
ducted the election. He said
that it was' nice to see the as-
sociation electing delegates
from Huron-Brucd and not
delegates from other rulings
as is happening -at some
other selection meetings.

sion this year, losing out in the finals to Goderich. Team
