Brussels" first game Saturday morning against Lucknow proYed the Sepoy. Town boys were too much, as they defeated Brussels 3-1. Thee lone goal for Brussels was scored by Greg Mulvey, assisted by Brad Taylor. Todd Rice .the, Brussels goalie, made tome excellent saves and was selected as player of the game. The boys. returned, Sunday morning to set the stage for three exciting games. Their competition in the first game was Dorchester, and Brussels blanked the boys from the Shamrock League South 3-0. Brett Lee scored the first goal, assisted by Peter McDonald. The second goal came off the stick of Greg Mulvey, assisted by Brian McArter. In the final minute of play, Brad Taylor scored into an empty net to clinch the Victory. McDonald was chosen as player of the game. The hardworking Jotylston''.elso got the second goal, assisted by 'Mltivey. This tet the stage for sudden -death oy, ertime. A persistent Johnston flashed the red light 55 seconds into the overtime period, assisted by Mulvey, to put Brussels into the finals. Johnston, with . his hat trick, was awarded player of the game. In the consolation championship game, Brussels was pitted against a t'amiliar nemesis: Elma- Logan. These two teams have met no fewer than 12 times this year and each game was a crowd-pleaser. Neither team was going to let the crowd be disappointed and at the end of regulation time the score was tied 1-1 with the Brussels goal scored by Greg Mulvey, assisted by Darren Johnston. In the opening seconds of overtime, Brussels goalie Todd Rice made an out- standing save which brought the roaring crowd to its feet. At' 1:39, Brian McArter flipped the puck to Mulvey, who tucked it past the Elma- Logan goalie to give Brussels the championship. Mulvey, with his two -goal performance, was named player of the game. Atoms are awarded trophy BRUSSELS — The Atoms who were entered in the 25th annual Mildmay Atom hockey tournament last weekend won the Sports- manship Trophy as the tournament's best -behaved team. There were 18 teams in the classification vying for this trophy. Tournament coor- dinator John Thompson congratulated the Brussels Atoms for the excellent sportsmanship which they showed on and off the ice. The Atoms also had won the sportsmanship trophy in 1983. Members of the team are Todd- Rice, Shawn- Jacklin, Brian McArter, Brad Taylor, Greg Clarke, Danny Benerman; • Darren John- ston, Greg Mulvey, Jason Firby, Ross Machan,'Pete Tete— McDonald, McDonald, David Johnston, Brett Lee; David Jacklin ander Kelly Workman. Coaches are Carman Machan, Keith Mulvey and Brian Workman. Brownie Corner The following. Brownies received badges: Tammy Adams and Tammy Thynne, Cook; Lori ' Angus, Pet Keeper; Amy Currie, Musician; Danielle Heibein, Beadworker; Tharen Keil, Gymnast; . Group A is beginning work on its Needleworker's Badge, Group B is learning sign language and Group C went on a letter chase. Group A enjoyed visiting a Guide meeting and four senior Brownies served tea and toast at Copeland Lodge. BANTAM 'B' AWARDS went to these members of the Wingham Ban- tam 'B's during the minor hockey awards ceremonies Saturday: Brian Mill, Bi ihan and Jamie Pickering (back) won Optimist Tri-Star awards; Rick 'Leachman was top scorer, Doug Cerson was most valuable player and Billy McGrath was most improved. The Gophers are in second place with 6,059 and the Boat People are third with 5,914.
