Mr. Martin was born hi
Morris Township, the,son of
the late Francis Martin and
Jane Reid. He attended
Brussels Continuation School
and Stratford Normal School
and taught at schools in
Blyth, Howick, Fordwich,
Grey, Cranbrook and Ethel.
He also had taken a business
course in Stratford.
Mr. Martin was always
active in church and com-
munity life in and around
Brussels. He was secretary
of Brussels Fair for a
number of years; secretary
of the Lions Club for three
years and president and
secretary of the Brussels
Senior Citizens.
On September 22, 1931, Mr.
Martin joined St. John's
Masonic Lodge. He became
Worshipful Master of the
Lodge in 1938 and on Sep-
tember 14, 1954, was ap-
pointed secretary of the
organization, a position he
held until his death. In 1972-
73 he served as District
Secretary of D.D.G.M. and
he appointed a Grand
Steward in 1973,
He was a faithful believer
in church attendance and
membership, serving 'as

Bluevale, who died in Mexico
in February, will be held on
Sunday, May 6, at 3p.m. at
the Bluevale United Church.
Jean was a dear sister to
her brother Bill (Winnipeg),
aunt to Ted and Paul (Winni-
peg) and Lisa (Toronto) and
deai"friefi"d and farm partner
to Bev Brown (Bluevale).

Mrs. 'Henry Scott
diesin hospital
The death occurred in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London,
on Tuesday, April 10, of Mrs.
Henry C. Scott of 14 Queen
Street, Wroxeter. She was 71
years of age.
Mrs. Scott was the former
Rose Myrtle Hazell and was
born in Hamilton, a daughter
of the late William Edward
Hazell and Rose Mould.
Left to mourn her passing
are her husband Henry of
Wroxeter; one daughter,
Mrs. Milford (Sheila)
Goodwin of Desert Hot
Springs, California; two
sons, Peter of Kitchener and
David, RR 2, Chesley; and
several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She•
was the dear sister of Roy of
Hamilton, Mrs. Alice Moyer
of Florida and Mrs. Lillian
Bell, Hamilton.
There was no funeral home
visitation. Cremation took
place and the family receiv-
ed friends Friday evening at
the family residence in
Wroxeter.

He was predeceased by his
parents and brothers Earl,
Clarence and George. Mr.
and Mrs. Martin celebrated
their 40th wedding an-
niversary on April 26, 1983,
and on August 18, 1983, he
celebrated his 80th birthday.
The funeral service was
conducted by Rev. Charles
Carpentier at the Brussels
Chapel of M. L. Watts
Funeral Homes on Tuesday,
April 10. Mrs. Mae Godden
and Mrs. Alf Sutton sang a
duet, "Beyond The Sunset",
accompanied by Mr. Sutton.
The floral tributes were
beautiful and special
donations went to the
Brussels Masonic Lodge.
Honorary pallbearers
were Fred Thuell and
William Perrie. Active
pallbearers were Sam
Sweeney, Les Knight, Bob
Grasby, Fred Uhler, Bruce
McCall and Wilfred Short -
reed. Floral tributes were
carried by Ross Duncan, Jim
McTaggart and Denis
Langridge.
One of the oldest residents
of the village of Brussels,
Joseph John Riley passed
away Wednesday, April 11,
at Callander Nursing Home
in his 102nd year.
A son of the late Benjamin
Rileyand Annie Wright, Mr.
Riley is survived by three
daughters, Mrs. Jack
(Evelyn) Hopf, Calgary,
Mrs. Gordon (Irene) Hopf
and Mrs. Aaron (Margie)
Lease, both of Stratford; five
sons, Clifford of Brussels,,
Gilbert, Grand Valley,
Ferguson, Wingham, Oliver,
Wroxeter, and Donald of
Garnish, Newfoundland;
several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. There
is also one sister, Irene
Grimoldby of Seaforth. b He
was predeceased by his wife,
Elizabeth Wright '(1973);
three daughters, Mrs. Sam
(Winnifred) Boutette, Mrs.
Chester (Jean) Alderson and
Mrs. Lou (Irma) Peachman;
two sisters, Liza and
Margaret; and one brother,
Charles.

at the Brussels Chapel of M.
L. Watts Funeral Homes
until Saturday when com-
plete funeral arid committal
service was held at two
o'clock. Spring interment
will take place hi Maitland
Bank Cemetery, Seaforth.
