was recommending the fine
be doubled because no one
Could remember when it was
last increased and in some
eases it has been costing
almost as much to collect the
Money as toe fineisworth.
Howeverl Councillor James
A. Currie suggested a PA
fine, "to avoid aggravating
people more than
necessary."
Council gave first and
second reading to the bylaw,
Which will come back for a
inacome decision at the next
meeting.

Council is trying to decide
What to do with its old fire
hall once the new hall has
been built.
Councillors were told the
old wooden hall, which has
been condemned, is
scheduled for demolition.
However Councillor Currie
asked that action be deferred
until he can find out whether
the building is valuable from
a heritage aspect. He also
inquired whether it might be
possible to salvage a portion
of the hose tower.
"I'm not looking tQ. cost the
town a great expense," he
said, "but I would like to
cheek and see if it warrants
salvaging." He noted the
building couldbe used to
store several pieces of an-
tique fire equipment owned
by the town.
With regard to the newer,
block portion of the building,
council decided to offer it for
sale and, if that fails, to tear
it down.
"The last thing the town
needs is another building to
maintain," Councillor Bruce
Machan pointed out.

Community Ji Strse Week'in Ontario challenges you
to care about victims.
Our justice system has a fine tradition of pro-
. tecting offenders. However, we must all recognize
that victims have rights and needs too.
• Victims and their families need help at the time •
of crisis. They need information•and guidance on
how to use the justice system. And,. they need sup-
port and care to deal with the aftereffects of crime.
The Ontario government has undertaken
several initiatives to help victims, But personal and
community involvement is essential.
Get involved. Participate in community-based
crime prevention progranns;and services. Contact
