"People seem to have the
same misconceptions about
conditioners as they do about
shampoos," says Kingsley.
"They claim their hair is
over -conditioned with the
wrong product for their hair
type; That's why it doesn't
look as good as it should.
"I can't stress enough,"
says Kingsley, "how very
important it is to find the
right product. In the end it
saves you time and money
and it could mean saving
your hair as well."
Phillip Kingsley shatters
still another "hair care
myth" when he does not con-
demn the use of a blow dry-
er.
"You will not damage your
hair," he says, "if you either
blow it dry and stop while it
is just slightly damp, or if
you blow it just to the.:point of
dry and then stop. The dam-
age only occurs if you contin-
ue to use the blow dryer after
your hair is no longer wet .. .

attempt to style it. That's

Q. Our son is 4 and has a
bedroom that is filled with
outgrown baby things. I
want to create a room for
him to grow in, that will be
good for another six to
seven years. We'll be buy-
ing everything — bed, desk,
carpeting, draperies.
I would like an easy care
room that he and I won't
have to worry about. But I
want it to be attractive.
I like cute little balloons
and clowns in other chil-
dren's rooms, but I think
they aretiresome after a
while and trite. Please sug-
gest some classic ideas for
decorating. — L.N.
A. How about a bright
red' carpeting for a start?
That's a practical color,
yet one that's dramatic and
adaptable in a youngster's
room. Chalk white walls
painted with a good quality
paint and given several
coats for a good heavy
base will allow you to wipe
away smudges as they ap-
pear (and it's easy to
whitewash every so often).
Try your hand with a
graphic in red and blue
across one or several
walls. You could tape the
walls with masking tape to
help you guide your paint
brush. Continue graphics
across walls with custom-
designed window blinds
using white for the prima-
ry background, in-
terspersed with red and
blue slats.

Q. I have four very
strange but charming Mis-
sion style dining chairs
with fabric on the back and
seats. The fabric is now
hideous — black plastic.
I'mrefurbishing a Cali-
fornia bungalow and I have
lots of natural oak in my
house with sand colored
walls.
The fabric on the chairs
will be the only color or
pattern in the room. I'd
like some bold color. What
would be a good choice? —

dries and damages it,
"What adds far More dam-
age than the blow dryer it-
self" ,concludes Kingsley, "is
the brash used to style the
hairrlule drying. It pulls
hair out and weakens it, so it
is the brush really that is the
culprit and not the dryer.
"If you must style your
hair, then do it while your
hair is still damp, to mini-
mize the risk of damage."

A. Mission style often
places an emphasis on the
hand-crafted.
Why don't you carry out
that feeling with a hand-
crafted Indian design —
perhaps a woven Gua-
temalan embroidery with
those brilliant combina-
tions of bright colors. The
hot pinks, bright reds,
green and blues in stripes
with embroidered flowers
and birds could be hand,
some in a room of woods
and neutral tones.
Q. I have a quilt. I made
in bold abstract shapes and
shades of gold, black and
red for my bedroom. But
now I have decided to
make this room into a
guest room with a sleeper
sofa.
I really like the hold col-
ors in the room because I

because my walls are bro-
ken up by windows and

What would you suggest?
— S.S.
A. Using the quilt on the
wall is, of course a good
idea and perhaps you could
fold it in an interesting
manner to somehow use it.
You do have to be careful
about that because fading
sometimes does occur:
However, why don't you
use it as a ceiling canopy.

Orion (the Giant Hunter), large and
distinctive and the most brilliant of
constellations, is almost as familiar as
the "Big Dipper" (part of the corn
stellaflon Ursa Major). Unlike Ursa
Major, which circles close to the north
cetestial pole andcan always be seen
from northern latitudes, Orion. for part
of the year. is visible from every in-
habited part of the earth. From
Canadian latitudes the constellation
is at its best during the coldest
months of winter.

But, often tiffs it is the
specialists, . the men and
women in the field of hair,
skin, clothing and makeup
who have a lot to do with the
image you see on the screen.
They are, in. fact, the image -

have secrets to share!
The Super Beauties will
feature some of these talent-
ed men and women giving
you the same advice and
how-to's that have helped
make some of the most beau-
tiful women in the world look
so good.
One of these very special
.image -makers' is' Phillip
Kingsley '... the undisputed
international hair care
authority. With a client list
that includes such beauties
as Candice Bergen and
Audrey Hepburn, as well as
such distinguished gentle-
men as Sir Laurence Olivier,
Kingley is the world's most
renowned practitioner of tri-
chology, the medical sub-
specialty devoted to the di-
agnosis and treatment of the
hair and scalp. With salons
in London and New .York, he
is also the hair care special-
ist to members of the British
royal family. -
Says Kingsley, "The most
common sense hair care
myth is that washing your
hair every day is not good for
you. It's a mistake not to
wash your hair daily, in fact
the more the 'better.
"If you consider, after a
day, how dirty your face
gets, and you take your hair
to the same places you take
your face, then you have to
realize how important the
daily washing is.
"Another misconception
people seem to have about,
washing hair daily is that if
you have dry hair it makes it
drier. Washing dry hair with
the correct shampoo and
conditioner actually will re -
moisturize your hair. Dry
hair is due to lack of moist-
ure, not lack of oil."
Many hair care experts
claim you should alternate
hair care products. Accor-
ding to Kingsley, (who has
his own line of hair care pro-
ducts that are scientifically
selected for specific, hair
conditions), once you have
