HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Wingham Advance-Times, 1984-02-15, Page 2Attend conference in Montreal Mr. and Mrs. Farish Moffat spent last week in Toronto at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Moffat as they were attending the SMPTE's 18th annual TV Conference and Equipment Exhibit and the pre- conference Tutorial Meeting February 9, 10 and 11 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal. The SMPTE TV con- ference has become an in- ternational event of great importance and included contributions from all over the world. Some countries represented, in addition to Canada and the USA, were France, Germany, England and Japan. Gordon Moffat is super- visor of the Electronic News Gathering Unit, National TV News, CBC Toronto, and has been with the CBC for more than 20 years, starting with the crevl of CBC's Country Hoedown in 1963. Trinity ACW meets at Armstrong homy FORDWICH — Trinity Anglican Church Women held their February meeting at the home of Mrs. Bruce Armstrong with President Mrs. Doug Bunker opening with prayer. Devotions were conducted by Mrs. Wellington Hargrave and Mrs. Don King. Roll call was answered by 18 members with exchange of recipes. Mrs. Harold Foster received a letter from Rev. Allan Hartley, thanking the Anglican Church Women for the nine bales that were sent. The letter was read by Mrs. Everett Armstrong. Sunday and weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. Doug Bunker were: Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Bunker of Petrolia; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Wasylyk and Amy of Kitchener; Mr. and Mrs. Mark Cressman of Priceville and Alison Bunker of Guelph. All attended the baptism of Pamela Jean Bunker Sunday morning at Trinity Anglican Church. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Sim- mons visited Sunday with ) Mr. and Mrs. Vern Hambly at Ingersoll. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Wildfang of Mississauga visited Sunday with Mrs. Roy Simmons and with Mr. Simmons at the Fordwich Nursing Home. Mr. and Mrs. Rick Woods and Shawn of Beeton spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Miller. Coral Lockie of Gorrie was a -Sunday guest with Lori Miller. Best wishes are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Roger Rowley who were married last Friday evening at Trinity Anglican. Church, Fordwich. Friends here were sorry to hear Everett Armstrong is a patient at Listowel hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Ron McClement, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Bill McCutcheon of Listowel, returned home over the weekend after a two-week vacation at Tobago, an island off the coast of Trinidad. Mrs. Cecil Wilson visited last Saturday with her mother, Mrs. Janet Harding, at the Geri -Care Nursing Home, Harriston. Mr.'and Mrs. Bill Stowe of Kitchener spent the weekend at their home here. Glenn Martin and Ray Gile of Listowel left last Saturday for a holiday in Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Armstrong visited one day last week with Mr. and Mrs. Art Mitchell at Port Elgin. Everet Armstrong of RR 2, Harriston is a patient in Listowel Memorial Hospital. He suffered a stroke early Saturday morning. However family members report his doctor is pleased with his progress. Women in Jesus' Life is topic of UCW study FORDWICH — The study book, "Jesus Means Life", was introduced by Mrs. Scott Clarkson when the afternoon unit of the United Church Women met February 9. Mrs. Clarkson,. Mrs. Harold Gibson and Mrs. Pittendreigh presented the program around the new study and in her in troduction, Mrs. Clarkson talked about the new life Jesus brought to women. Passages of scripture were read by Mrs. Pittendreigh and the meditation was given by Mrs. Gibson. The study showed that Jesus . treated women as persons equal to men. Many examples were used — the woman at the well; the healing, of the woman's daughter; the woman wiping Jesus' feet with her tears. It was women whom• Jesus appeared to after • his resurrection. Following the study, a •questionnaire was conducted. A pot luck dinner preceded the meeting which was based on the theme, "Jesus Christ UCW-speakerexplairis Toc Alpha conference — The Light of the World". The worship centre consisted of a globe of the world, a lighted candle, open Bible and red and 'green valentine flowers. Miss Minnie McElwain, unit president, welcomed everyone and read a poem, "Climb Til Your Dream Comes True". She thanked the ladies on the program committee.
