You expect to see Oliver Twist or David Cop- perfield appear at any mo- ment. The restored shops that were built by Scottish stone masons in the 19th century have an Old World charm that enthralls visitors to the little village in the Guelph area. At the bottom of Mill Street is the Elora Mill Inn. With its massive solid oak beams and open fireplaces, it exudes the quality of life of another era. The Inn overlooks the fam- ed G'orge'of the Grand River which attracts over a million people a year who marvel at the beauty of the cascading torrents. A century ago, the rapids 'of the river provided power for the grist mill. It was :a 'bustling industry in the vill- age. As modernization took Over, the mill went into'de- cline and the power was needed no longer. But recently, the Grand went back to work. Crozier Taylor, an ' innkeeper of the old school, bought the reno- vated mill a few years ago, and with some government • backing, began work on the first private power project of its kind in the province.
