Fordwich general meeting
has Lenten worship theme
FORDWICH — The
general meeting of the
village United Church
Women was held in the
Sunday School room on
Thursday, February 2, at
two o'clock. The theme of the
meeting was Lent and the
worship centre followed the
theme, with a wooden cross,
lighted candles and a goblet
of wine depicting sacrifice.
The program was con-
ducted by Mrs. Cy Marzec
and Mrs. Wallace Bilton.
Following the singing of a
hymn, Mrs. Marzec led in
prayer. She then explained
the different seasons of the
church year and colors of
each season, adding that the
color for Lent is purple.
Following reading of
scripture-by-M*s—Bilton,
meditation on Lent was
given by Mrs. Marzec who
described Lent as a time for
self-examination, fasting,
prayer and confession. She
continued with ways a
Christian should observe
Lent and how Jesus
describes Lent.
After another scripture
reading and a story, "The,
Man with The Brown Bag",
by Mrs. Bilton, Mrs. Marzec
asked the question, "What
are you giving up for Lent?".
She then conducted a quiz on
how Lent can be made
meaningful and closed the
worship with prayer after a
hymn was sung.
Mrs. Elmer Harding,
president, conducted the
business and welcomed
everyone, thanking the
program ladies for a
meaningful worship. Mrs.
Harold Gibson, secretary,
read the minutes and
treasurer Miss M. McElwain
gave her report. The
Evening Unit is again
sponsoring a child. A motion
