Quilting revived
in 4-H project
for Bicentennial
A talent that is rapidly
becoming a lost art is being
revived this year by the
Ministry of Agriculture and
Food which hopes to instil an
interest in the young to keep
the craft alive. Classifying
the art of quilting as a
heritage from early
beginnings in Canada, the
Ministry is introducing the 4-
H project to commemorate
Ontario's Bicentennial.
It is hoped that the quilting
course will appeal to
members with all levels of
experience in sewing and
crafts. Beginners will learn
basic techniques anile
complete one small quilted
article. More experienced
members will be encouraged
to use creative talents by
choosing a more difficult
design. Quilting is a modern-
day expression of art 'and
used for many things besides
bed quilts, including
clothing, draperies, wall
hangings and household
accessories.
To join a 4-H quilting club,
members must be at least 12
years of age"by January 1.
