Mustangs fall to Panthers Cross'country ski meet results
in high school hoop play
The Madill Mustangs boys bas-
ketball team had their one -game
win streak come to a crashing halt
Last Wednesday by the visiting
South Huron Panthers of Exeter.
The junior Mustangs were hand-
ed a 64-38 setback in the first game
of the afternoon.
Shane Petteplace was top shoot-
er for the junior Mustangs with
eight points. John Martin added
seven points with Jeff Martin and
B.J. Prince hooping six points
apiece.
Darryl Romphf hooped 21 points
for the Panthers with Dave Robil-
lard adding 14 points and Luke
Sims getting 13 points.
The senior Mustangs started off
slow as they trailed 17-6 after the
first period. They pulled to within
six points by the half as they trailed
24-18 after two quarters of play.
The second half was all South
Huron as they ran away with the
game. It was 37-28 fir South Huron
after three periods and 58-36 by the
end of the contest.
With just over 1:30 to play in the
third quarter the senior Mustangs
lost centre Kris Kreigar for the rest
of the game as he went down with
a twisted ankle.
Kreigar was top shooter in the
game for Madill with 15 points.
Adam Carr added seven points and
Mike Nolan contributed six.
Marty DeBruyn and Bryan
McAllister paced the South Huron
offence with 16 and 15 points re-
spectively. Joe Maskill hit for 11
points. _.
The Mustangs are off now until
Jah. 10 when they travel' to Sea -
forth for games against the Golden
Bears.

Thirty members of the Madill
cross-country ski team travelled to
the Barrie area last Tuesday to
compete in the Rip and Hammer.

meet.
Over 800 skiers from across On-
tario as well as the Northwest Terri-
tories and Quebec were competing.
The top Madill finisher was Julie
Lisle with a fourth place finish in
the senior girls 7.1 -km course.
Lisle and her teammates of Tasha
Mayer, Karen Buck, Denise Mil-
len„ and Lorie Anne Black finished
a respectable sixth in a large field
of skiers.
The junior boys team finished
fifth, led by Jamie Good, and fol-
lowed by Dennis Lubbers, Rodney
Ireland, and Sjaan Gerth.
The best junior girl's result on
the 5.5 -km course was Sue Bieman
who finished 22nd.
The top novice skiers for the day
were Janet Lisle in the 1.6 -km girls
race and Chris Bowyer in the 1.6 -
km boys race, as both placed 16th.

Madill girls begin
volleyball season
The Madill Mustangs senior girls
volleyball team won two of three
games against the Goderich Vi-
kings, but managed just a single
win over the Seaforth Golden
Bears, in matches played at Gode-
rich.
After dropping the first game to
Goderich, 12-15, the senior Mus-
tangs rebounded to take the next
two games 15-4 and 15-2.
Against the Golden Bears, the
senior Mustangs took the first game
15-7, but then dropped the next two
12-15 and 4-15.

The junior Mustangs took one
game from Goderich and won all
three games over theGolden Bears.
After winning the first game
against Goderich, 16-14, the senior
Mustangs dropped the next two 1-
15 and 4-15.
The Mustangs hosted South Hu-
ron Panthers of Exeter and Central
Huron Redmen of Clinton for
matches last Thursday.
The Mustangs are now off until'
Jan. 16 when they travel to Exeter
for matches against South Huron
and Seaforth.
