Community Club holds
Christmas party for 70
BELGRAVE--The community
club's Christmas party was held on
Friday, Dec. 8, when over 70 peo-
ple enjoyed a delicious meal pre-
pared by the Belgrave restaurant.

companiment for a sing -song. Ar-
nold Bruce, Mrs. Boak and Ron
McBurney provided musical num-
bers and Alice Nicholson gave a
reading, all of which were enjoyed
following the meal. .
After the program, cards, pool
and shuffleboard were enjoyed. Nu-
merous lucky draws were held re-
sulting in the following winning
prizes: Helen Martin, Les Shaw,
John VanCamp, Charlie Cook, Lot-
tie Scott, Kay Roberts, Mrs. Boak,
Marg King, Ross Procter, Ruth
King, John Roberts, Clarence Yuill,
Alice Nicholson, Elsie McKague,
Harold Vincent, Mary Procter,
Olive Bolt and Mabel Wheeler.
Charles and Brenda Gibson of
Kitchener called on Robert and
Florence Gibson last Friday.
Lorne Robinson is a patient in
Win$ham and District Hospital.
Robest Elschner is a patient in Lis-
towel Memorial Hospital. We wish
them both a speedy return to good
health.
The sympathy of the community
is extended to the family of the late
Carl Dinsmore, who passed away
on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Victoria
Hospital in London.
Jill Welsh, .Kyle and Sara of
Harriston, visited last Sunday with
Reta Strong.
Cara Schneider, Lucas and An-
drew Schneider, visited for several
days with their grandparents, Bill
and Jean Strong of RR 2, Clifford,
while their parents, Leonard and
Laurie Schneider were in New Or-
leans, La.
Ed and Wanda Roth, and Don
and Yvonne Gedcke of RR 1,
Gowanstown, attended the Royal
Terrace family Christmas party at
Palmerston. They also visited with
Jean Sparling.
Bob Dawson of Knox College,
Toronto, was the supply minister at
Knox Presbyterian Church, Gorrie
and St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church in Molesworth last Sunday.
Come Alive Club
clebrates season
GORRIE--"O Canada" was sung
with Janet Hogg at the piano to
open the Dec. 12 Christmas dinner
of the Gorrie Senior Citizens'
"Come Alive Club".
Rev. Brad Beale of St. Stephen's
Anglican Church in Gorrie was the
guest speaker. The seniors' Christ-
mas dinner was catered by the
United Church Women with 45 in
attendance, Faith Cooke thanked
the speaker and presented him with
a gift.

GORRIE--Neighbors and friends
presented a farewell gift•and a has-
ket of assorted gifts to Bill and
Gloria Ward recently.
The Wards have moved to Brus-
sels and our best wishes go with
them for health and happiness.

Cooke and Mrs. Jacques and was
called "Raffle Gab". It was enjoyed
by all

BELGRAVE--The evening unit of
the United Church Women held its
Christmas meeting at the home of
Laura Johnston recently with 19
members answering the roll call by
donating a pair of mittens for the
Christmas Bureau.
Muriel Coultes began the meet-
ing with a poem. The Christmas
worship service was presented by
Barbara Anderson and Laura John-
ston and included carols and Bible
readings to correspond and candles
lit for Christ. joy, peace, love and
faith.
The offering was received and
dedicated and the service closed
with prayer. Norma Moore con-
ducted a Christmas trivia contest
naming Christmas songs.

Kinsmen Turkey Bingo was held
earlier this month at the community
centre.
Turkeys were won by: Melva
Fraser, Jean Thuler, Karrin Marks,
Norma Moore, Debbie Reid, Mi-

Rick Muter, Irene Jacklin, Tom
Pfeiffer, Donna Snowden, Linda -

WI holds Christmas social
BELGRAVE--The president of the
Women's Institute, Dorothy
Coupes. welcomed Institute mem-
bers and their guests to the annual
Christmas social held on Tuesday,
Dec. I2, at the WI Hall.
Following the blessing, everyone
present enjoyed a delicious turkey

BELGRAVE--The Christmas meet-
ing of the afternoon unit of the
United Church Women was held
Dec. 12 at the home of Kay Rob-
erts.
Due to the absence of Audrey
Fenton, Mary Hunter took charge
as leader. The minutes of the No-
vember meeting were read and ap-
proved. Janisa Coultes invited the
unit to her home for the January
meeting.
Edith Vincent and Ada Taylor
provided a very interesting and
thought-provoking Christmas pro-
gram. During the program, several
Christmas carols were sung with
Mrs. Roberts accompanying on the
organ.
A Christmas quiz concluded the
meeting and Mrs. Roberts served a
lovely lunch and a social time was
enjoyed.

and Colleen Vanderjagt, Adam.
Abby and Alex of Port Carling
spent last weekend with their moth-
er and grandmother. Betty Irwin.
Last Saturday evening. Ruth
Johnston was a dinner guest at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wat-
son of Blyth.
"Mabel's Moms" met last
Wednesday at the home of Mabel
Wheeler at the regular time. Linda
Galbraith and Susan Borrmann
were the guest 'speakers and told
about home schooling. Others in at-
tendance included: Donna Raynard,
Trevor and Heidi; Candace Chaffe,
Cameron, Brandon and Austin; An-
drea Stevenson, Mathew and Tyler;
Linda Hess and Andrew; Rev.
Mary Jane Hobden; Lila Procter
and Ben; Sherri Sippel, Christie,
Scott and Daniel; Claren Yuill; Ju-
lie VanCamp, Jeanine and Jordan
and Sandra and Beka Borrmann.
The Belgrave unit of the Canadi-
an Bible, Society thanks all the vol-
unteers for their help in this year's
blitz. Many thanks go to the com-
munity for the generous support.. A
sum of $1.235 was realized.
BELGRAVE EUCHRE
There were seven tables of eu-
chre in play at the Women's insti-
tute Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Winners included: high lady.
Luis Chamney; second high. Marj
Coultes; most lone hands. Lillian
Appleby; low lady, Edythe Coultes;
high man. Oscar Schefter; second
high. Ruth Johnston (playing as a
man ); lone hands, George Carter
and low man. Lloyd Appleby.
The next Belgrave euchre is
Wednesday. Jan. 3. at 8 p.m. Eve-
ryone welcome.

Women. The ladies were thanked
by Alice Nicholson and Sheila Nix-
on suitably responded.
Mrs. Coultes led in a sing -song
of Christmas carols and songs for
which Mary Coultes provided pia-
no accompaniment. Rev. John Rob-
erts was invited to sing a special re-
quest solo entitled "Trees", which
he dedicated to Sara Anderson. Mr.
Roberts was accompanied on the
piano by his wife Kay.
A number of door prizes were
awarded to the lucky recipients by
Wilma Higgins. A most interesting
slide presentation followed with
Joan Pederson giving an account of
holidays she had enjoyed in Hawaii
and Australia. She was thanked by
Mrs. Higgins, who presented her
with a small token of appreciation.
The president thanked everyone
for venturing out on such a cold
evening. She also gave a reminder
that the potluck luncheons will be-
gin in the new year with the first
one being held on Jan. 16 at 12:15
p.m. At that meeting, Ross Procter
will present slides and speak on his
u-ip to South Africa.
