Crusaders
fall to Tigers
Brussels Crusaders held a 3-0
first period lead, Friday evening
against the home town Arthur
Tigers, but the Tigers ended up
with a 10-4 decision in WOAA
Senior 'A' Hockey League play.
The Tigers scored five unan-
swered second period goals, and
then outscored the Crusaders 5-
1 in the final period to post the
win.
Ron Strome had a goal and an
assist for the Crusaders with sin-
gle markers added by Steve
Fritz, Brian Campbell, and Jim
Oster. Brent Van Den Akker
picked up a pair of assists with
single helpers received by Mike
MacKay, Chad Nichols, Greg
Mulvey, and Rick Boone.
Ron Coughlan had three
goals for the Tigers with Darrell
Hancock and Mike Brooks get-
ting two each. Single markers
were tallied by Pete Terpstra,
Mark Gardonia, and Steve Fil-
singer.

The Lucknow Lancers were
handed.a 4-2 setback by the
Mildmay Monarchs in WOAA
Senior 'B' Hockey League play
on Friday.
The Lancers' Sunday after-
noon game against the Lions
Head Northstars was postponed
because of the weather, and will
be played at a later date.
The Monarchs held a 1-0 lead
after the first period and were in
front of the Lancers 3-1 after
two periods of play.
Steve Simpson netted both
goals for the Lancers.
Scoring for the Monarchs
were Rod Elliott, Randy Fritz,
Glen Ditmer, and Shawn Wed -
ow.
In another Senior 'B' contest
on Sunday, Dundalk Flyers dou-
bled up the Teeswater Falcons
.6-3.
Madill ties St. Marys
for second straight game
The Madill hockey Mustangs
picked up their second straight
point in Huron -Perth High School
Hockey League play.
On Nov. 29, the Mustangs
played St. Marys to a tie in St.
Marys. On Friday, the same two
teamsmet, this time at the Lock-
tridge Memorial Arena in Wing -
ham.
The result was a 7-7 draw. The
teams were even at 2-2 after the
first period, with the Mustangs
holding a 6-5 advantage going into
the final period.
Jeff King and Jason McDonald
had two goals apiece for the Mus-
tangs. Single markers were added
by Josh Johnston, Mark Wilson,
and Dave McDonald. Jeff Porter
earned three assists with Rob
Senior Mustangs claim
tourney consolation title
The Madill senior girls volley-
ball team competed in a pre -season
tournament at St. Thomas Aquinas
school in London on the weekend.
After a slow start, the Mustangs
ended up winning the consolation
championship in a tough three -
game match.
The senior Mustangs opened the
tournament against the host
school, and were soundly defeated
in two straight games.
However, the team got better as
the tournament progressed and
qualified for the consolation semi-
finals, against Pope John Paul II of
London.
The Mustangs won the match in
two straight, 15-9 and 15-11 to ad-
vance to the final against London
Westminster.
Madill coach Chris Lawson not-
ed that Westminster had beaten the
Mustangs in the round-robin por-
tion of the tournney. He added the
players were disappointed, be-
cause they felt they should have in
the round-robin match.
Westminster took the first game
of the consolation final, 16-14.
The Mustangs trailed 11-0 in the
second game before making sub-
stitutions and rebounding for 16-
14 win. Madill won the third game
15-10 to take the consolation
championship.
Madill goes to Goderich on
Tuesday for matches against the
Vikings and the Seaforth Golden
Bears.
On Dec. 21, the Mustangs host
South Huron Panthers of Exeter
and Central Huron Redmen of
Clinton.
McGee picking up a pair of help-
ers. Single assists were collected
by Joel Pegg and Chad Moffat.
Craig Baynton started in net for
the Mustangs, and was replaced by
Chris Bromley about halfway
through the second period.
Jeff Richardson netted two
goals for St. Marys with single
markers added by Jamie Mathews'
son, Matt Froud, Jim Holiday,
Mark Ribson, and Dan Gdanski.-
The next league game for the
the hockey Mustangs is Friday"
when they host the Central Huron
Redmen of Clinton at 2 p.m. at the
Lockridge Memorial Arena.

hoop all-stars
Three members of the Madill
junior girls basketball team have
been selected to the Huron
County all-star team.
The annual Huron -Perth all-
star game was played last night
at Stratford St. Michael's.
The three junior Mustangs are
Andrea Hiller, Joanne Huber,
and Michaela Johnston. The jun-
ior all-star team was coached by
Chris Coulthard of Madill.
Two members of the senior
Mustangs were selected to the
Huron County senior all-star
team.
They are twins Pam and San-
dra Murphy.
Intermediate
hockey girls
fall to
Kincardine
The Wingham Intermediate girls
travelled to Kincardine on Nov. 25.
The first period was exciting
hockey as each team held the other
scoreless. Halfway through the sec-
ond period, Kincardine scored on a
shot by former Wingham player
Jill Van Damm. Van Damm added
two more goals.
Wingham was unable to score
until the third period when Heidi
Meier scored from Ashley Camp-
bell, and then Campbell scored as-
sisted by Meier.
Kincardine won the game 5-2 as
J. Walker and K. Ballantyne added
goals.
