Stress reduction helps a healthy
lifestyle Don't let tension 'eat you
up'
• Don't let stress 'eat you up'
Feeling tense? Listed below are
nine techniques for reducing stress.
You might want to try all of them
to find the ones that work best for
you.
I. Breathe. Deep breathing is one
of the best stress -busting tech-
niques. Take a deep breath through
the nose, hold it for seven seconds,
then let it out slowly through your
mouth. Do this three to six times.
2. Smile. Your mood can stress or
relax you. If you smile, you'll feel
better about yourself and chances
are people will smile back.
3. Laugh. A sense of humor is your
best defense against stress.
4. Let it out. Always keeping your
frustration locked inside will show
on the outside. Instead, think about
a particularly stressful situation lat-
er. Unacknowledged tension will
eat you up, but delaying your reac-
tion can be constructive because
you're in control.
5. Take a one -minute vacation. Pic-
ture yourself anywhere you'd love
to be, doing something for fun - but
only for a minute or two. Losing all
sense of time and place can help
ease your stress.
6. Relax. When you tighten your
muscles, you hold in tension. In-
stead, try isometrics during which
you relax specific muscles or mus-
cle groups.
7. Organize. Organize your priori-
ties at work and at home to give
you a sense of control.
8. Be positive. Constantly talking
negatively will only reinforce your
stress, so vent your anger and frus-
tration in positive ways. Sharing
your problems with co -Yorkers will
help you gain new ideas to help
combat stress.,
9. Take a health break. Make your
normal .breaks from work into
stress breaks. Consider walking
outside -or just sitting with your
eyes closed. for a few minutes.
Bring healthy snacks and juice to
work instead of junk food.

IRVINE, MURIEL--In loving memory
of our mother and grandmother, who
passed away on December 4, 1994.
God saw you getting tired,
The cure was not to he,
He wrapped you in his loving arms
and whispered, "Come with me".
You suffered much in silence, your
spirit did not bend
You faced your pain with' courage
until the very end.
You tried so hard to,stay with us,
Your fight was all in vain
God took you to his loving home,
And freed you from your pain.
You didn't deserve what you went
through and so he gave you rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the hest.
--Sadly missed by your family
