EWPS Classroom News Former Nutrition was theme
By Amy Barnes, Mike Proctor,
Paul Walker & Ken McCracken
The Grade 3-4 was doing many
things last month. The children en-
joyed finding out about magnets.
They have been learning about
Canada and addition with regroup-
ing for math.
In language, Mrs. Hessels is
reading Knee -Knock Rinse by Nat-
alie Babbitt to them. They also are
learning keyboarding skills on the
Icons.
For the Christmas concert,
"Cooking Up Christmas," they are
learning their parts and songs.
They also will be singing with
Grades 1 and 2.
Vanessa Wall has moved to Brit-
ish Columbia. The Grade 3-4s wish
her a happy trip. Birthdays for No-
vember were: Vanessa on Nov. 25,
Matthew Hanna on Nov. 25 and
Danielle Delong on Nov. 27.
Grade 4-5 News
The Grade 4-5s have been very
busy this fall. They are anxiously
awaiting letters from penpals who
go to Frittenden School in Kent,
England. They will send them
Christmas greetings. They are trac-
ing a Christmas card from them to
send to their penpals.
They are working on cotton ex-
periments and have made up their
own experiments to learn many sci-
entific methods.
They have made pictures on the
exciting novel 20 and 10. Now they
are reading a novel entitled Num-
ber the Starts. It is about Danish
children during World War I.
The children had a special time
looking at the World War I and
World War II memorabilia brought
in by the students.
They have had all -about -me
presentations this year by Heather
Rochetta, Matthew Cowan, Paul
Garniss and Darlina Delong.
Grade 6 News
The Grade 6s have enjoyed some
more class spotlights to update
them. They were by Devin Moffatt,
Lisa Black, Stephanie Burchill,
Amber Koehler, Katie VanCamp,
Adam McBurney and Kenny
McCracken. Some of these present-
ers also brought their pets to intro-
duce to the class.
The Grade 6s have been studying
and reading The Phantom of the
Opera, written by Gaston Leroux.
They hope to read more every day
as they have been enjoying it very
much.
The pupils have finished work
on research projects in social stud-
ies. The subject for each group of
students was one of the provinces
or territories of Canada. Each group
has made its presentation to the
class.
In math, they have been review-
ing addition, subtractions, multipli-
cation, division of decimals, as well
as problem solving.
The class has had a reputation
since September for being accident-
prone. Travis Campbell broke his
arm, Chad Cook fractured his fin-
ger and Craig Marks broke his Lin-
ger. Hopefully this will be the end
of their bad luck.
Peacemaker Assembly
Last Thursday, Nov. 3Q, the
Grade 6-7 class held the first Peace-
maker Assembly of the year. They
presented a skit which gave the
children ideas on how to get along
well on the playground and in class
with their peers.
They had a "gotcha" draw for
each class from Kindergarten to
Grade 7. They thank Mr. Fisher's
class for the work that they put into
their assembly and for being peer
mediators at East Wawanosh Public
School.
Students' Council Dance
The students' council at EWPS
hosted a formal dance at 12:20 p.m.
on Nov. 29 in the school gym. The
admission charge of $1 was donat-
ed to the Huron County Christmas
Bureau. To enter the dance, the
boys had to wear dress shirts and
ties and the girls had to wear skirts.
Mr. and Mrs. Lamondin
Christmas wedding
One year has passed since a
beautiful Christmas wedding was
held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church in Wingham.
On Dec. 3, 1994, Jennifer Jones,
daughter of Ron and Marilyn Jones
of Wingham, became the bride of
Russ Lamondin of Britt, Ont., son
of Russ and Marie Lamondin.
The bride, gowned in ivory satin,
entered the church on the arm of
her father amid red poinsettias and
green bows decorating the pews.
Her attendants were Shelley Jones
and Jennifer Baker of Wingham, as
well as Rose Letkeman, sister of
groom, all dressed alike in dark
green velvet gowns. •
Little Meagan Jones, in a cran-
berry velvet dress, was her aunt's
flowergirl and was accompanied by
Adam Letkeman, nephew of the
groom as ringbearer.
The best man was Dale Lamon-
din of Collingwood, while Jeff La-
mondin, Rod Jones and Rob Jones
were ushers. The vows were ex-
changed before Rev. John Vaudry.
A wedding dinner and reception
followed at the Belmore Communi-
ty Centre.
The young couple is residing at
Monkton, Ont., where they bought
a house this fall. A very happy first
anniversary goes out to Russ and
Jennifer from family and friends
here in Wingham.
46.
John and Kay Roberts recently
returned from $ritain where they
spent a month visiting with family
and friends. During their stay they
were pleased to enjoy the warmest
weather ever recorded for that time
of year. They also were surprised to
note that a hose -pipe ban was still
in effect, following the hot. dry
summer conditions experienced
this year.
Congratulations from friends and
neighbors to Mike and Debbie
Pfeiffer on the occasion of their
15th wedding anniversary.
Gordon McBurney recently re-
turned hone after spending more
than six weeks in Wingham and
District Hospital. Friends, neigh -
hors and relatives wish Gordon a
speedy recovery.
Marilyn Dusky and Trevor of
New Hamburg spent last weekend
'with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor.
Trevor played Live games in the Sil-
ver Stick Hockey Tournament held
in Wingham late last month. New
Hamburg won four games in a row,
playing well with great team spirit,
allowing members to go on to the
championship match. New Ham-
burg lost 4-3 in the final to Seaforth
in a real "nail -biter".
