Wroxter Christmas decorations welcome
United United Church %Vomen to meeting
Church
women
WROXETER--The November
mating of the Wroxeter United
Church Women was held at the
church with Joyce Adams and Car-
ol Pyke leading the devotions.
They took "Compassion" as the
theme for the worship.
Mrs. Adams gave a reading on
the meaning of the word and how
we use it to live our daily lives,
Scripture verses from the gospel of
Matthew were read and all joined
in singing the carol "Joy to the
World" with Marilyn Elgie on ,the
piano.
More scripture verses from the
gospel of Mark and a poem on
compassion continued the theme.
Mrs. Adams received and dedicat-
ed the offering. Mrs. Pyke read a
poem' and gave a reading on com-
passion.
Mrs. Adams read a story on a
family coping with a member suf-
fering from Alzheimers disease.
She said it takes much patience and
understanding to watch loved ones
gradually go from vibrant, loving
and energetic people to those who
need constant care, day and night.
Families and caregivers need
compassion from' friends, relatives
and the community to give, a hand,
even if only for a few hours. We
never know when we may be in a
situation that we need help and we
too will hope someone hascompas-
sion and cares for us, Mrs. Adams
noted.
Mrs. Pyke closed the devotions
with a story of a lady who had tak-
en care of her husband for years
and'had lost touch with friends and
relatives. - After her husband's
death, it took a long time for her to
adjust and come out of her shell,
Mrs. Pyke added.
Sandra Edgar opened the busi-
ness and thanked Mrs. Adams and
Mrs. Pyke for their devotions and
the social time Iter. The secre-
tary's report and correspondence
were read by Eileen Hamilton and
. Joy Wyliegvgu therlf9ast}rer'§arl,,
port. Some novel ideas for display-
ing and using the beautiful cards
the group receives each holiday
season was the answer to the roll
call.
The UCW Christmas party will
be held on Dec. 12 in the church at
6 p.m. All are reminded to bring a
friend, a gift for their "secret pal",
treats for the shut-in boxes, some-
thing for the program and goodies
for the potluck dinner.
Members thank all who donated
and came to enjoy the Country
Christmas Bazaar, which was a
wonderful success.
The winners of the draw are as
follows: first prize, a lace table-
cloth, Mrs. Pyke; Wroxeter; second
prize, a quilt rack, Liz McBain,
Grand Valley; third prize, a coun-
try calendar, Christine Small, Strat-

tions were made to local groups
