thirsty after playing basketball against the Madill seniors last
Thursday. And, he wanted a drink of water. However, team-
mate Shane Parker was not quite sure if Goose Junior would
get one. Parker mixed up the water before letting Goose Junior
have a drink of water.

Combined senior Mustangs team
puts up strong valiant effort
The Harlem Diplomats came to
Wingham last Thursday afternoon
to take on a combined senior boys
and girls basketball team from Ma-
dill Secondary School.
The Madill team featured five
members of the senior boys team
aid five from the senior girls
squad.
One of the players on the Diplo-
mats team was Miryna, a former
member of the Romanian national
women's team.
Following the opening drill of
passing the ball around in a circle
in black light, the players on both
teams were introduced.
Even though there was some •se-
rious basketball being played. most
of the time was spent with hi -jinx
and not so serious basketball play-
ing.
Leading the hi -jinx for the Diplo-
mats was Goose Junior. He was as-
sisted by Uno Ob, E Man, Shane
Parker, Dennis Dunkley, and Miry-
na.
The Diplomats 'started the scor-
ing and were quickly out in front of
the senior Mustangs. as the Madill
shooters were unable to hit the has-
ket. •
However. the Mustangs finally
found the.' shooting range. Led by
Madill

way to
12 medals
The Madill wrestling team trav-
elled to Guelph on Thursday and
competed against more experi-
enced teams.
The Madill wrestlers came
home with a dozen medals — six
bronze, four silver, and two gold.
Gold medals were won by Ron
Baird and Kristy Ireland.
Earning silver medals were
Chris Alexander, Chandra Case -
more, Dave Morley, and Trevor
King.
Bronze medals were earned by
Richard Watson, B.J. Prince, Kar-
en Schill, Jason Walker. Jola
Omole, and Kendra Leishman.
The Madill girls team placed
third out of 20 teams entered in
the competition, andthe boys team
took eighth place overall, out of
25 teams competing.
The Madill wrestlers are in Wa-
t¢rford on Friday for another meet.
they then go to Cambridge the
following week, and then St. Cath-
arines for a meet the week before
the Christmas break starts.

lead in the third quarter.
Although the Mustangs held the
lead into the fourth quarter, the
Diplomats started hitting from
three-point Lange to pull out a 56-
52 decision. Leading the way for
the Diplomats from three-point
range was Miryna and E Man.
The game ended with Goose Jun-
ior sitting on the shoulders of Den-
nis Dunkley in order to dunk the
ball.
The boys basketball teams begin
the Huron County season today
(Wednesday, Dec. 6) as they travel
to Goderich for a 2 p.m. game
against the Vikings.
Tri -County champs_ .Belgrave Pee Wee boys
captured the Tri -County Softball League championship this
past summer. Team members include (front) Tom Pfeiffer, Tim
Robinson, Gavin Van Camp, Brian Sanders, Justin Howatt, and
Johnathan Cucksey; (back) coach Deb Pfeiffer, coach Eric
Hopf, Jim McCracken, Ric •uchanan, Jason McBurney, Kevin
Hopf, Peter Irwin, Jason Fear, and manager Maureen Hopf. Ab-
sent is Rob McGee.
B' Division champs.—Belgrave Pee Wee girls
softball team captured the league 'B' division this past sum-
mer. Team members include (front) Lia Sanders, Lauren Walk-
er, Danielle Thompson, Heidi Meier, and [: ecky Logan; (back)
coach Joyce Thompson, Julie Woodley, Alicia Potter, Michelle
Thompson, Melina Hussey, and Kendra Mioffatt. Absent are
Marie Cook and Corey Rintoul.
Belgrave Pee Wee girls
BELGRAVE - The Belgrave Pee
Wee girls softball team had a suc-
cessful season, wining the 'B' divi-.
sion championship.
The first team they met in the
playdowns was Fordwich with Bel -
grave winning•the first game 18-9.
Fordwich came back to win the
second • game 10-4. The third and
final game was played in Fordwich
with Belgrave coming out on top
with a final score of 7-2.
Belgrave then went on to play
Wingham for the 'A' or 'B' cham-
pionship of the North Division.
The first game took place in
Wingham with both teams coming
on strong, but in the end Wingham
came out on top by a 17-10 score.
The second game was played in
Belgrave with both tedms making
great plays. In this game, Belgrave
came right back to life .in the last
inning and cleaned up with a score
'of 10-9. The third contest was
played in Wingham and was a real

nail biter. In the end, Wingham
won by a final score of 11-8 to win
the 'A' division of the North Divi-
sion. Belgrave was the 'B' division
champion in the North.
Belgrave then met South Divi-
sion champion Blyth for the „B'
championship.
The first game was played in
Belgrave. The game was close until
the • fourth inning when Belgrave
got on the bats, scored nine runs,
and never looked back as they won
22-6. The second gene was played
in Blyth with cold weather condi-
tions, but both teams played good
ball. In the end Belgrave came up
victorious by winning 26-12 and
win the overall 'B' championship.
The coaches noted than all 1.2
girls who played on the team gave
it all they had at • every game and
were a pleasure to coach. They
learned a few useful skills this past
years, but the one they won't forget
is "Hat to Watch."
