The weather rollercoaster that Southwestern Ontario has been rid- ing this year is continuing with be- low -normal temperatures in the month of November and above - normal precipitation. John Hoekstra of the London of- fice of Environment Canada reports that readings at London for the month were three degrees below normal and precipitation well above normal, including 36 centi- metres of snow. Readings for Wingham and area will vary, he notes. Normal temperatures at this time of year are 2 degrees Celsius for day -time highs and minus -five de- grees overnight, says Hoekstra. At Mount Forest last Tuesday night, the mercury dipped to minus -19 de- grees, below zero on the old Fah- renheit scale. That's mighty cold, he adds, but interestingly enough, not a record. For the month of December, Hoekstra sees the trend toward colder temperatures continuing and normal amounts of piecipitation. As far as the rest of the winter is concerned, Hoekstra cannot offer a definitive forecast. However, he does believe we could be settling in for a cold season. Weather patterns tend to even out over the course of a year or a year and a half, he says. Last winter produced record high temperatures and the summer was exceedingly warm as well. To him, this means that weather patterns will tend to stabilize this winter with colder -than -usual tempera- tures. Much of this winter's weather will be determined by Pacific Ocean currents during the month of December, says Hoekstra. WTDH staff honor Dr. Bradley The staff at Wingham and Dis- trict Hospital took time out of its busy schedule recently to honor Dr. John Bradley. Dr. Bradley started his medical career as a general practioner and anesthetist at Wingham hospital and continues to relieve Dr. Marie Gear on a regular basis. He initially became a lecturer in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Toronto in 1983. On July 1, 1988, he was appointed to the Department of Anesthesia, Fa- culty of Medicine and the Universi- ty of Toronto as an assistant profes- sor. Based on the excellence of his teaching and his clinical skills, he recently was promoted to the rank of associate professor. Wingham and its surrounding area can be proud to have a physi- cian skilled in this area continue his association with our hospital.
