met earlier this month, at the Ma-
sonic Lodge. The special guest was
Tatum Mathers, a local student
whose exchange to England last
summer was partially sponsored by
the Optimists.
Tatum was involved in a Youth
for Understanding International Ex-
change and traveled to England for
six weeks. She gave an informative
report of her travels. Thank-yous
were received from Stacey King
and Angie Yoon, two Madill gradu-
ates who received Optimist bursar-
ies.
A donation of $300 was made to

An awards banner has been pur-
chased to present at the charter ban-
quet to the new Lucknow Optimist
Club. Wingham group members
wish them much success in their fu-
ture projects.
The "Tree of Lights" lighting
ceremony will take place Friday,
Dec. 1, at 7 p.m.
The community is encouraged to
come out for carol singing at 6:30
p.m. and a hot drink courtesy of the
club. Lights may he purchased
from any Optimist member or call
E. Saxton at 357-1615. All money
raised goes to Optimist Club pro-
jects. Local businesses are not be-
ing solicited this year, so individual
donations are welcome.
The Wingham Optimist Track
and Field Club was granted $2,000
for continued support.
The Optimist Santa Claus Parade
takes place this Saturday, Nov. 25.
Even those who have been naughty
are encouraged to come and see
Santa as he winds through Wing -
ham. The jolly old elf will be greet-
ing children at the fire hall after the
parade.
The "Candles for Kids" project
will be continued this year. Candle
cards may be picked up at Mom's
Place in Wingham. All toys donat-
ed will be distributed by the Salva-
tion Army.
A plaque on behalf of the North
Huron Big Brothers was presented
to the club for outstanding partici-
pation in "Bowl for Millions".
Season's greetings are extended
to everyone. The next Optimist
Club meeting is Wednesday, Dec.

to three firsts at
Jumbo Jets meet
The Huron Hurricanes Aquatic
Club travelled to St. Thomas ,on
Nov. 4-5 to compete in the Jumbo
Jets seventh annual invitational
swim meet.
Kevin. Schill captured three first
and three second place finishes in
the boys 13 -14 -year-old division.
Lesley Burton claimed a pair of
firsts and four second place finish-
es in the girls 11 -12 -year-old divi-
4 sion. : —
KSchill earned a fourth,
aren
fifth, and seventh place finishh in
the girls 15 and over division.
Competing in his first sanc-
tioned meet, Bradley Burton swam
to a fourth, two sixths, and an
eighth place finish.
Kevin Schill was first in the

of shoot in play on Friday, Nov. 10,
at the community centre.
Prizes at the Nov. 10 party went
to: high lady, Edythe Coultes; sec-
ond high, Marj Coultes; most

BradleyBurton was fourth in
the 100 -metre . breaststroke in
2;03.88 minuses; sixth in the 100-

eighth in the 50 -metre backstroke
in 53.14 seconds.
The two Burtons rounded out a
special relay team consisting of a

The Huron Hurricane team fin-
ished fourth.
Karen Schill and Lesley Burton
swam in the girls' 15 and over
medley relay and placed second.
Lesley Burton was selected as
the swimmer of the meet for the
Hurricanes by capturing the high-
est number of personal best
swims.

get hockey
season
under way
The Madill Lady Mustangs girls
hockey teams' played their first
game of the season on Friday, fall-
ing 8-0 to Kincardine.
Coach Andy Jones said both
teams played well, with the Lady
Mustangs holding a edge in the
shots on net department.
However, coach Jones said the
difference was the goaltending.
Kincardine netminder Leslie Birch
plays for a boys 'AAA' midget
team.
Jen Gattinger had two goals and
an assist for Kincardine with Caro-
lyn Gattinger collecting a goal and
three assists. Lindsay McLelland
contributed two goals with single
markers added by Erin Rintoitl,
Susy Grover, and Lindsay Riggin.
Terri -Lynn Schell played the
first two periods in net for the
Lady Mustangs with Michelle
Freiburger playing the final peri-
od.
The next game for the Lady
Mustangs is Dec. 1 when they
travel to Walkerton for a 3 p.m.
contest.
