The Madill Mustangs junior
girls basketball team scored a
43-37 decision over the South
Huron Panthers in Huron
County high school baskebtall
league play last Wednesday in
Exeter.
Andrea Hiller paced the Mus-
tangs victory with a 20 -point ef-
fort. Cathryn Alton contributed
eight points and Michaela John-
ston hooped five points for Ma-
dill.
In midget girls play, the Pan-
thers downed Madill 35-28.• •
Chrissy Kerr had a dozen
points for the midget Mustangs
with Nathalie Tormey hooping
seven points.
The senior„ Mustangs were
handed a 12 -point setback by the
senior Panthers. •
The Mustangs travel to Gode- '
rich today (Wednesday, Oct. 18)
to take on the Vikings.
Bulls score
first win
of season
Brussels Bulls posted their
first win of the 1995-96 season
Sunday afternoon as they dou-
bled up the Hanover Barons 6-3 .
in Western Junior `C' Hockey
League play at the 'Brussels-
Morris- itrey Community Cen-
tre.
The'Bulls held a slim 2-1 ad-
vantage after the first period of
play and increased their lead, to
5-2 going into the final 20 min-
utes of play. Brussels tallied
three power play goals and add-
ed a short handed for good
measure.
Ryan Wright paced the Bulls
attack with a pair of goals — a .
power play and a short handed
marker — and an assist. Sheldon
Mustard netted a power play
goal' and added two assists with
Murray Kaye firing a power
play goal. Tim Beyer also
scored and Aaron Barrie tallied
his first of the season.
Peter Ryter and Josh Alexan-
der picked up two assists each
with single helpers earned by
Darin Alviano and Mike Mci-
saac.
Ryan Fisk made 37 saves in
the Bulls net.
The Bulls play Hanover on
Saturday at the Brussels -Morris -
Grey Community Centre and
then travel to'Wiarton on Sun-
day.
Madill junior
volleyballers
fall in semis
The Madill Mustangs junior
boys volleyball team travelled
to Sarnia on Saturday to corn-
pete in a tournament.
The Mustangs finished second
in their six -team pool with a
record of seven wins and three
losses.
Madill went up against Sarnia
St. Pat's in the semi-final and
fell 15-8 and 15-11.
The Mustangs play South Hu-
ron Panthers of Exeter and Sea -
forth Golden Bears on Thursday,
beginning at 2 p.m. at the Madill
gymnasium.

PALMERSTON - Chepstow Aces
captured the majority of the team
and individual awards handed out
during the Bluewater Fastball
League's annual awards dinner
held at the Legion hall here, Satur-
day evening.
The Aces claimed the regular
season championship with a
record of 18-6. The Aces also took
the Bluewater Sports trophy as the
playoff champions, and also ac-
cepted the Ken Dickson Memorial
trophy as the league's most sports -
minded team.
The Aces also won the WOAA
Intermediate Grand Championship
crown, and, the men's open title.
Chepstow's Doug Lang walked
away with the major individual
award. Lang topped six of the
eight offensive categories in the
league to claim the Heritage
Builders of Clifford trophy as the
most valuable player.
Lang received the Norsco
Sports of Palmerston trophy for
winning ,the batting title with an
average of .410. For leading the
league with runs batted in with 25
and home runs with Six, Lang also
claimed the league's triple crown
award.
Ryan .Martin of the Palmerston
Midget Imperials was the top
pitcher, with an ERA'of 0.60.
Pitcher Pete Spitzig of the Aces
received an award for hurling a
perfect game on July 24 against
the Lakeshore. Heat.
Chris Eadie of the' Belmore
Stingers received an award for
pitching a pair of no-hitters,. on
May 22 and again on June 2.
Four Milestone Awards• were
presented. Dave Eadie of the
Stingers and Reg Walls of the
Clifford 4 Aces were awarded for
scoring their 120th career run dur-
ing the 1995 season.,
Ross Baird of the Wroxeter
Steelhawks posted his 1,000th
strike out during the season, and
Don Busby of the Stingers rapped
out his 250th career hit during
1995.
Lang ,was„ also selected to the
league's All -Defensive team, a
concept initiated this year. He was

ers; short stops Dave O'Hagen of
Chepstow, Roger Walls of Clif-
ford,' and Jeff Dickson of the
Stingers; outfielders Wes Hope
and Don Leslie of Clifford, Glen
Ditner of Chepstow, and Aaron
Small of Palmerston; and utility
player Daryl , Wheeler of Chep-
stow.
In his report to the league, presi-
dent Jeff Dickson said all seven
teams in the league played a 24 -
game schedule, so close to 80
games of ball were played.
• He added that four teams —
Wroxeter Steelhawks, Wingham
Colts, Clifford 4 Aces, and Chep-
stow Aces — competed in the
OASA Intermediate 'C' tourna-
ment in Merlin, and the Belmore
Stingers competed in the Interme-
diate 'D' tournament in Glencoe.
Dickson add that three teams
competed in the" WOAA play -
downs, with Aces winning the In-
termediate Grand Championship
and the Men's Open titles.
The president added that the
league brought in rule changes to
help speed up the game. These
were a mercy rule and a catcher
substitution rule.
He noted that even though the
planned all-star game against the
Toronto Gators fell through for
1995, discussions are under way
regarding the possibility of an all-
star game against the Huron
County Fastball League.
Dickson noted that two new
teams have demonstrated an inter-
est in joining the Bluewater Fast -
ball League in 1996. He said the
league may have an umpire -in -
chief next season, and this person
Ironmen post two weekend road wins
undefeated in Western Junior League
The Wingham Ironmen kept
rolling along in the Western Junior
'C' Hockey League on the week-
end as they picked up two more
victories.,
The Ironmen have yet to lose in
the 1995-96 campaign, improving
their league record to 4-0-1.
The Ironmen were on the road
for both weekend games. Playing
in Ripley on Saturday, the Iron -
men scored a 3-2 decision over the
Kincardine Bulldogs. David Bart -
man posted the shut out on Friday,
as the Ironmen blanked the Brus-
sels Bulls 9-0.
Wingham took a 3-0 lead in the
first`period on Saturday, and then
hung on for the victory, as the
Bulldogs scored once in each of
the second and third periods.
Brett Sangster scored just 13
seconds into the game to give
Wingham a 1-0 lead. Chris Bucha-
nan and Justin Murray received as-,
sists.
Two power play goals by Scott
MacDonald, 34 'seconds apart, lat-
er in the period proved to be the
difference in the game. Jason
Becker earned a pair of assists
with Tim Schultz helping on one
goal.
Zack Smith scored in the sec-
ond period for the Bulldogs and
George Gunson tallied at 8:32 of
the third period to put Kincardine
down by one.
Tim Swan made 32 saves in the
Wingftam goal and Jeremy Beatty
made 31 stops in the Kincardine
goal. es.
The Ironmen took 10 of the 18
minor penalties assessed by refer-
ee Tom Gillespie.
Wingham took a 3-0 first period
lead over the Bulls on Friday, add-
ed the lone marker of the second
period, and fired five unanswered
goals in the third period to post the
lopsided decision.
Bartman faced only 16 shots,
including eight in •the final period,
in recording the shut out.
Eric Sikkenga paced the Iron -
men offence with three goals. Bu-
chanan had two goals and three as-
sists while Sangster had two goals
and a pair of assists. Single mark-
ers were added by Brent Robinson
and Terry Williams. Kyle Wheel-
er, Murray, Becker, and Jason
Meriam picked up two assists
each.
Jamie Taylor made 32 saves in
the Brussels goal.
The Ironmen host the Mount
Forest Patriots on Sunday at the
Lockridge Memorial Arena, begin-
ning at 2 p.m.

a secretary," said Dickson..
