$1,000 grand prize
The Wingham and District Hos-
pital Foundation held its annual
fund-raising dance at the Teeswa-
ter-Culross Community Centre on
Sept. 16. "
The elimination draw and dance
was held to help, the foundation
raise funds towards the purchase
of a colonoscope. '
The colonoscope cost around
$23,000. Approximately 400 tick-
et holders and guests turned out to
the event and danced to the music
off Denim and Lace. Ticket Sales
totalled $21,600.
The project started with ticket
sales in July and; ended with the
actual elimination draw on Sept.
16. There were also two early bird
draws held.
Dan Webster of Wingham was
the big winner, winning the
$1,000 grand prize of the elimina-
tion draw held during the dance.

RAM Toy Run
...The second anual Regional Area Motorcyclists (RAM) Toy Run was
held Sunday afternoon. Forty-three bikes from Sarnia, Kitchener, Paisley, Goderich, Kincar-
dine, Harriston, Listowel, Atwood, Guelph, Wingham, and even one from Caglary, Alberta took
part in the event and collected toys for the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army will give the

Fire chief Harley Gaunt told the
Winghatn Area Fire Board last
Wednesday that the training was
received Sept. 11 at the'Wingham
station. He added that the training
was worthwhile and the presenta-
tion was interesting.
The fire chief said that Union .
Gas officials told them that noth-
ing can really happen. The gas
company officials said that natural
gas is totally safe.
Gaunt reported that the Union
Gas officials told them if . they
have to fight -a natural gas fire,
they should turn off the gas and
call the utility,
The fire, chief said that natural
gas is easily detectable because it
does have.a distinctive odor.
Re said the Union.Gas officials
stressed their safety record during
their presentation, and just told
them to treat .natural gas with re-
spect.

Gaunt also reported to the board
that the fire department was going
to hold an Open House at the. fire
hall during Fire Prevention Week,
Oct. 9 to 14. However, he added
an open house would cost money.
He said that the open house
would just be at the Wingham sta-
tion. Gaunt said that members of
the fire department would be at-
tending the Howick-Turnberry
Fall Fair, Oct. 6 and 7 and giving
demonstrations.
Deputy fire chief Lynn Hickey
said the open house would give
the fire department some needed
PR.
"We got some ideas, we just
have no money," said the deputy
chief.
Hickey noted that the open
house would be Thursday and Fri-
day evening and Saturday. He add-
ed that the fire department would
also put on a demonstration.
