Cross•country
meet set for
September 30
The annual Wingham Opti -
Mist Track and Field Club's
'Running on Time in Wingham'
cross-country meet will be held
Saturday, Sept. 30 at F.E. Madill
Secondary School in Wingham.
Over 200 runners from across
Ontario are expected to compete
at the meet. About 20 of the
competitors will be from the
host club.
The competitors will be be-
tween 5 and 14 years of age. A
total of eight races will be held.
Boys and girls will be running
separately in mite', tyke, atom
and bantam divisions.
The walk through goes about
9:30 a.m. with the first race get-
ting under way between 9:45
a.m. and 10 a.m. The competi-
tion will be over by noon.

majority of the courses, especial-
ly for the younger age groups,
set on school property.

Athletic teams at F.E. Madill
Secondary School in Wingham
have been in -training since
classes began Sept. 5.
The first competition is the
Huron -Perth golf championships
which will be held Friday at the
golf course in St. Marys.
Coach Doug Neil selected the
four players for the squad Mon-
day, afternoon at the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club. The four
members of the team are Derek
Knight, Adam Knight, Adam
LaChance, and Dan Cline.
The scores of the school's top
three golfers count towards the
final standing of the school.
The WOSSA championship
will be held in St. Thomas on
Sept. 28.
The Huron -Perth tennis cham-
pionships are being, held 'Tues-
day in Stratford.
Coach for the team is Carolyn
Schofield.
The first basketball game will
be played next Wednesday at
Madill. Steve Merner is the sen-
ior girls coach and Schofield and
Chris Coulthard will be coach-
ing the junior girls.
The boys volleyball season
gets underway Thursday, Oct. 5
when the Mustangs travel to
Clinton to play the Central Hu-
ron Redmen.
Barry Simpson is the senior
boys coach and Audrey Bos will
be coaching the junior boys
team.

Toy Run
on Sunday
The second annual Regional
Area Motorcyclists Toy Run
will be held Sunday.
All interested riders are to
meet at the Top Value Gas Bar
at the plaza at the south end of
Wingham between 11 a.m. and
noon. Riders will be leaving
shortly after 12 noon.
Hotdogs, hamburgers andx re-
freshments will be served at the
completion of the run.

Devils claimed the WOAA Major
Midget championship Sunday af-
ternoon by downing Wroxeter
Rippers 6-1.
The Blue Devils won the best of
five series in five games.
Belgrave scored once in the first
inning when lead off batter Eric
Andrew was hit by the first pitch,
and then scored on Shawn Fair's
double.
The Rippers evened the score in
the third' inning on a walk to An-
drew Walker, a sacrifice bunt and
m
a sillgle by Shawn Davy'.
The Blue Devils put the go-
ahead run across the plate in the
fourth on Brent Robinson's triple
and Chris Stewart's single. They
added two more in the fifth when
Todd Edgar singles, Ryan Moffatt
reached first on a fielder's choice,
Fair singled, Robinson reached
first on an error to load the bases,
Joel Pegg then doubled to drive in
two runs.
Belgrave wrapped up the scor-
ing with two more in the top of the
seventh. Moffatt singled, and An-
drevt ' and Fair .both readied:" .. '
On errors. Moffatt was thrown out
at the plate on Robinson's fielder's
choice. Andrew and Fair scored on
an error on Pegg's ground ball.
Robinson went the distance on
the mound for Belgrave, giving up
three hits and one walk and struck
out four.
Trevor Seip started on the
mound for the Rippers and lasted
five innings before being relieved
by Shawn Daw. They allowed
eight hits and one walk, and corn-
bined for five strike outs.

Bulls defeated by Bulldogs
SEAFORTH - The Brussels
Bulls were defeated 6-4 by the
Kincardine Bulldogs in pre -season
exhibition Western Junior 'C'
Hockey League play on Sunday.
The Bulls trailed 3-I after the
opening 20 Minutes of play with
the teams tied at four going into
the final period. Kincardine tallied
two unanswered third period goals
to claim the win.
Jason Heipel scored the first
Brussels goal With help from
Steve. Henderson.
Mark Wilson netted the second
Bulls goal with Tim Beyer getting
the assist.
Sheldon Mustard fired the final
two Bull's goals. The first was as-
sistol by Greg Fritz and Dan Sin-
clair and the second was assisted
by Fritz and Beyer.

leading 4-1. •
The Bulls have changed their
affiliation for the 1995-96 season.
The 'Bulls have worked out an
agreement with the Kitchener
Dutchmen of the Midwestern Jun-
ior 'B' Hockey League.
Brussels plays a pair of exhibi-
tion games this weekend. The
Bulls travel to Kincardine on Fri-
day for an a:30 p.m rematch with
the Bulldogs, and then host New
Hamburg Spirit 83 on Sunday at 2
p.m. at the Seaforth Arena.
The Wingham Midget Girls de-
feated • Belmore in two straight
games to win the Tri -County
League championship.
The first game of the 'series was
played Friday evening in Belmore,
with the second game going Satur-
day at the Josephine Street ball-
park.
Wingham put a pair of runs
across the plate in the top of the
first, Friday, when Missy Bieman
doubled and Carolyn Pike was
walked. They both scored on An-
drea McBride's single.
Belmore got one back in their
half of the inning when a runner
reached first on an error and then
scored`on a.single..
Wingham added two more runs
in the second when Lisa Inwood
walked and Jenny Remington sin-
gled, and pee wee player Crissy
Keir brought up for the series, hit
a fly ball to centre to . score In-
wood. Remington scored in a sin-
gle by Janelle Cretier..
Belmore tied the score in the
fourth with runs scored on a pair
of singles and two errors.
Lead-off batter Cretier drew a
walk in the top of the fifth and was
brought home. by Bieman to.regain
the lead.. Wingham then hung on
for the 5-4 win.
Bieman was the winning pitcher
for Wingham, allowing three hits
Chepstow
captures
Bluewater
crown
Chepstow Aces scored an 8-7
decision over the Belmore Sting-
ers, Sunday afternoon, to win the
13luewater Fastball League chain-
pionship three games to one.
George Bester earned the victo-
ry on the mound for the Aces with
Chris Eadie being tagged with the
setback.
Don Busby, Scott Smith and
Scott Dickson each had two hits,
including a home run, and Paul
Tolton had a pair of hits'and drove
in two runs.
The Stingers stranded 17 run-
ners in the game, including having
the bases loaded in the ninth in-
ning and unable to score the tying
run.
The' Stingers won the third
game of the series 13-3, played
Friday evening.
Chris Eadie posted the victory
and Pete Spitzig was tagged with
the defeat. •
Jeff Fischer was 3 -for -3 at the
plate for Belmore, and drove in
five runs. Jeff Dickson was 3 -for -4
at the plate and also had five RBIs.
Murray Mawhinney chipped in
with a pair of hits.
Bester was the winning hurler
in game two as the Aces edged the
Stingers 6-5. Dave Eadie suffered
the defeat on the mound for Bel -
more.
Busby had two home runs in the
contest, in•a losing cause for Bel -
more.
The opening game of the series,
played last Monday in Belmore,
was a pitcher's duel.
Spitzig earned the victory as
Chepstow scored a 1-0 decision.
He allowed three hits and recorded
10 strike outs.
Losing hurler Chris Eadie, gave
up four hits and struck out 15.
and two walks, and recorded 15
strike outs.
Amy Wilhelm and Jill Kuntz
shared the loss for Belmore giving •
up six hits and five walks, and
combining for 11 strike outs.
Belmore scored in the top of the
first inning .. on Saturday, but
Wingham replied in their half of
the inning, when Denise Kikkert.
singled and then scored in Julie
Kikkert's single.
The score remained that way,
with both pitchers being stingy the
hits, until Wingham was able to
put three hits together in the bot-
tom of the fourth. Denise Kikkert
and Bieman singled and Julie Kik-
kert homered.
Belmore threatened a comeback
in the fifth with Shannon Ward
drawing a walk and scored on a
pair of singles. The tying run was
stranded on the bases with Caro •
-
lyn Pike retiring the next two bat-
ters at short stop.
• The final two innings were
scoreless with two three -up and
three -down innings giving the
game and the series to Wingham.
A week earlier the midget girls,
won the WOAA major midget ti-
tle. •
Bieman was the winning hurler;
allowing five hits and two walks,
and struck out ine.
Kuntz was the losing pitcher,
giving up six hits and two walks
and struck out 11.
