reach
league
final
Belmore Stingers advanced to
the Bluewater Fastball League
championship finals, by getting
past the Palmerston Midget Im-
perials in three straight games.
Chris Eadie was the winning
hurler last Thursday as the
Stingers downed the Imperials
9-2.
Jeff Fischer smacked a home
run as he collected a pair of hits.
Brian Busby also contributed a.
pair of hits for the Stingers.
Kent Norman was tagged
with the loss on the mound for
Palmerston.
The first game in the best
three of five final series between
the Stingers and Chepstow Aces
was played Monday in ,Belmore.
Games two and three will be
played Thursday and Friday in
Chepstow.
Bulls down
New llamburg
in exhibition
Brussels Bulls travelled to
Waterloo on Saturday to tangle
with the New Hamburg Spirit 83
in exhibition Junior 'C' hockey
action at the Columbia Ice Field.
The Bulls scored a 4-1 victo-
ry. The teams were in a score-
less draw after the first period,
with the Bulls taking a 3-1 lead
in the middle stanza, and added
the lone goal of the final period.
Fourteen -year-old Dan Wil-
liams tallied the first `Brussels
goal, with help from Josh Alex-
ander. Tim Beyer netted the sec-
ond Bulls marker with Alexan-
der earning the assist.
Beyer added his second of the
game with help from Sheldon
Mustard.
Ryan Wright tallied the lone
third period marker, with help
from Beyer.
Cory Schmidt and Jamie Tay-
lor shared the goaltending
chores for the Bulls.
The Bulls face off against the
Kincardine Bulldogs at the Sea -
forth Arena on Sunday begin-
ning at 1:30 p.m.
Bantam
girls
eliminated
The Wingham Bantam girls
have 'been eliminated from fur-
ther softball play. "
The team lost 12-5 to Seaforth
last week in Tri -County League
play.
On the mound for Wingham
were Lindsay Baier and Melissa
Riley.

The Wingham Midget Girls --recently won the WOAA Major Midget Girls'

Midget girls defeat Tavistock
to win WOAA Major Midget title
Wingham captured the WOAA
Major Midget girls championship
last Wednesday evening by defeat-
ing Tavistock in three games.
Missy Bieman clubbed a two -
run home run in the fourth inning
last week to give Wingham a 9-8
lead as they went on to win the
game 16-8 and the series.
Bieman was the winning hurler,
allowing nine hits and one walk
and struck out four in going the
distance on the mound.
Julie Kikkert had three hits, in-
cluding a pair of home runs, in
three at -bats. Bieman was 3 -for -4
at the plate and Denise Kikkert
had two hits in four at -bats.
The second game of the best
three of five ,game
series was
played Labor Day • in Tavistock.
Bieman clouted a three -run .home
run in the sixth inning to power
Wingham to a 8-4 decision. Julie
Kikkert hit a three -run home run
in the third inning.
Bieman was 2 -for -3 at the plate
'and Julie Kikkert was 2 -for -4.
Bieman went the distance on
the mound, allowing six hits and
four walksand struck out eight.
The first game of the series was
played Aug. 30, with Wingham
scoring a 7-2 decision.
Denise Kikkert was 1 -for -1 at
the plate and Bieman had two hits
in three at -bats.

Wingham needed five games to
get past Mount Forest in the semi-
final round, and swept Arthur in
two straight games in the quarter-
final round.

Aces down Colts
advance to mals
Chepstow Aces scored two runs
in the top of the ninth inning last
Wednesday evening to score a 3-2
decision over the Wingham Colts.
With the win, the Aces won
their Bluewater Fastball League
semi-final series, three games to
one, and go against the Belmore
Stingers in the best three of five fi-
nal series.
Catcher Doug Lang drove in the
tying and winning run with a sin-
gle in the top of the ninth. Two
runners were on base at the time.
With the Aces holding a 1-0
lead, Scott Neil tied the game at
one with a run -scoring single in
the bottom of the first. Right field-
er Jason Daw drove in the go-
ahead run in the bottom of the first
inning to give the Colts a 2-1 lead.
Pete Spitzig went the distance
on the mound for the Aces, allow-
ing nine hits and one walk and
striking out 18.
Neil started on the mound for
the Colts and was relieved by Tom
McDonald in the fourth inning.
They gave up eight hits and six
walks and combined for a dozen
strike outs.
Neil was 3 -for -4 at the plate for
the Colts and Daw had two hits in
four at -bats. Centre fielder Ryan
Deyell had one hit in three plate
appearances.
Left fielder George Bester was
2 -for -4 at the plate for Chepstow
with right fielder Derrick Detzler
and centre fielder Darryl Wheeler
each getting two hits in five at -
bats.
WOAA annual meeting
set for September 25
The 51st annual general meet-
ing for the Western Ontario Ath-
letic Association (WOAA) will be
held Monday, Sept. 25 at the
Wingham Armouries.
The meeting for receiving annu-
al reports and the financial state-
ment for the year ending July 31,
1995 will begin at 7:30 p.m.
An election of directors will be
held as well as the consideration
of amendments, and other busi-
ness that has been properly placed
before the members.
The meeting is open to repre-
sentatives of all sports covered by
the association, including all mi-
nor hockey, local league hockey,
senior hockey, women's hockey,
and softball.
Following ,the annual meeting,
people in attendance will be asked
to stay for the WOAA minor
hockey annual meeting, or go to
an adjacent meeting for the 1995
softball wrap-up meeting. •
The annual minor hockey meet-
ing will be held to discuss the up-
coming 1995-96 season. Amend-
ments from the Ontario Minor
Hockey Assoication ,(OMHA) an-
nual meeting will be reviewed.
Rule changes will be reviewed.
The proposed amendments and
changes to the WOAA manual of
operations for minor hockey, an-
nouncing up -coming clinics and
meetings, will be reviewed.
The softball wrap-up meeting is
being held to review the 1995 sea-
son and also ask for input for
1996.
The WOAA will also be pre-
senting the O.M. (Mike) Weichel
Honor Award. This award is pre-
sented annually to someone for
their outstanding efforts, with in-
volvement in minor sports in their
community.
The deadline for nominations
for this honor award is 5 p.m. to-
morrow (Thursday, Sept. 14).
Applications for the WOAA
bursary assistance fund will be ac-
cepted until Friday, Sept. 29.
Belgrave Midgets win
force deciding game
Belgrave Midgets scored a 6-4
decision over Wroxeter on Sunday
to even their WOAA Major Mid-
get final series at two games
apiece.
The fifth and deciding game
will be played Sunday in Wroxeter
at 4 p.m.
Belgrave scored four runs in the
fourth inning on singles by Eric
Andrew, , and Joel . Pegg, a double
by Shawn Fair and a triple by
Tedd Edgar.
They added two more in the
fifth,, Wroxeter hit the scoreboard,
scoring one in the sixth and two
more in the seventh. They left run-
ners on second and third as the
game ended.
Brent Robinson went the dis-
tance on the mound for Wroxeter,
allowing six hits and one walk and
struck out five.
Shawn Daw started on the
mound for Wroxeter and went five
innings before being relieved by
Trevor Seip. They gave up five
hits and two walks and combined
for four strike outs.
Eric Andrew had two doubles in
three at -bats for Belgrave.
Seip had a double and two sin-
gles in four at -bats for Wroxeter,
and Daw was 2 -for -4 at the plate.
Kennedy claims
low gross honors
at seniors golf
Forty-one golfers competed in with a 77. Gavreluk took the low
the 18 -hole seniors invitational
tournament at the Wingham Golf
and Curling Club last Wednesday.
Tom Kennedy took the overall
low gross honors with a 76. Bob
Gavreluk won overall low net hon-
ors with a 63.
Will Barnes took low gross hon-
ors in the 50-59 years division
JCS' FAMILYFITNESS CENTRE
net award.
Kennedy won the low gross
award in the 60-69 years division.
Ben Parr took low net honors with
a 65.
Harold Keesaw took the low
gross honors in the 70+years divi-
sion with a round of 82. Ian
Mitchell claimed low net honors
with a 67.
