Lisle places 6th
at CanadaU.S,
combined events
championship
Julie Lisle placed sixth overall
in the Under -20 (junior) category
of the Canada -U.S. combined
events championships, held Aug.
18-19 in Windsor.
She finished the competition, 20
points short of her previous best
points total.
Lisle ran the 100 -metre hurdles
in 15.8 seconds, had a jump of
1.45 metres in the high jump, had
a personal best of 12.41 metres in
the shot put, ran the 200 metres in
27.2 seconds, had a leap of 5.12
metres in the long jump, had a
mark of 32.56 metres in the jave-
lin, and ran the 800 metres in
2:40.9 minutes.
Coach Maureen Lisle said com-
peting for Team Canada at this
competition was a good experi-
ence for Julie.
Wroxeter leads
Belgrave in
WOAA series
Wroxeter scored an 11-4 deci-
sion over the Belgrave Midgets
last Wednesday evening to take a
one game advantage in their
WOAA Major Midget final series.
Belgrave scored an 8-5 decision
over Wroxeter last Monday eve-
ning in Belgrave.
Wroxeter clubbed everything
that Joel Pegg and Brent Robinson •
threw at them in the first inning,
sending 13 batters to the plate.
Wroxeter collected a homerun, a
double and seven singles to score
nine runs.
After that mess Pegg settled
down, shutting Wroxeter down un-
til the seventh inning when. he sur-
rendered back-to-back home runs.
For Belgrave, Brian Marks,
Todd Edgar and Pegg each stroked
a double. Chris Stewart slammed a
home run and Shawn Fair collect-
cd a single.
Trevor Seip went the distance
ori the mound for Wroxeter, allow-
ing five hits and one walk, and
struck out six_
Robinson started on the mound
for Belgrave before being relieved
by Pegg. They gave up 13 hits and
one walk, and combined for six
strike outs.
Short stop Dean Wheeler had a
home run, triple, and single in four
trips to the plate to lead the Wrox-
eter attack. Seip had a double and
two singles in four at -bats for
Wroxter with centre fielder Dave
Greig getting a pair of home runs
in four plate appearances.
Belgrave evened the series last
Monday with its 8-5 victory . at
home.
Wroxeter fought back to tie the
game at 5-5 after seven innings.
Belgrave won the game in the
eighth by plating runs on three
consecutive singles by Ryan Mof-
fatt, Brian Marks, and Fair. Eric
Andrew stroked a sacrifice fly and
Robinson banged out a single.
Robinson went the distance on
the mound for Belgrave, allowing
10 hits and three walks, and struck
out eight.
Wheeler was tagged with the
loss as he gave up 12 hits and
three walks, and struck out five.
Right fielder Moffat had a dou-
ble and two singles in three at -
bats, while catcher Fair had three
singles in five plate appearances.
Short stop Pegg had a grand slam
home run and a single in five at -
bats.

'A' Category
Harold Carter and Jim Bolton took
first place honors in the double round
40 -point game 'A' category of horse-
shoes competition last Thursday at
the Wingham Sportsmen Club. They
had four wins and were +59.
Bernie Bender and Jim Nelson
were second with four wins and +54.
Jack Arnold and Bill McAstocker
were third with three wins and +82.
Al McKenzie and Leon Russell were
fourth with one win and +99.

Lynn Hewitt and Terry Anger took
first place honors in the double round
30 -point game 'B' category with four
wins and +50.
Doug Vanderwoude and Bob Bun
were second with three wins and
+68. Wilf Towns and Bill Bray were
third with three wins and +30. bon
Carter and Peter deGroot were fourth
with two wins and +96.
League champions...The Wingham Squirt Reds won the 'A' division of the Tri -
County Squirt Softball League playoffs last Monday evening when they defeated Belgrave.

Squirt Rods claim 1eagup
`A' -side championship

The Wingham Squirt Reds fin-
ished the 1995 season last Monday
. with a 8-3 triumph over Belgrave
to win the Tri -County Squirt Soft-
ball League 'A' championship.
Andrew Scammell and Dwight
Schiestel, brought up from the
mites, scored two runs apiece. Sin-
gle runs were scored by Kent
McPherson, Duane Schiestel, Ke-
vin Waechter, and Kent Readman.
The game was close, with
Wingham holding a slim 1-0 lead
after two innings. Wingham held a.
3-0 lead after four innings of play.
The game opened up for both
sides in the sixth inning as Wing -
ham added three more runs to their
total and Belgrave put their first
two runs across the plate.
Belgrave• was unable to come
back strong enough in the top of
the seventh inning; but did manage
a single run.
Waechter pitched his fourth
strong game of the playoffs, strik-
ing out 11 batters. The team also
played an excellent defensive
game, tagging out five base run-
ners, and catching five flies. Only
two errors were made by Wing -
ham in the seven innings.
Championship medals were
handed out to the Wingham
players, while the Belgrave
players received finalists crests
from 4ndy McBride, representing
the Tri -County League.
Kathy Waechter was the coach
of the Squirt Reds. Assistant
coaches were Harry Schiestel and
Rick Schut. Diane Readman was
the scorekeeper,

ride" down the main street of
Wingham. -
Stingers score 11.1 win
take two•game series
lead overPalmerston
Belmore Stingers took a 2-0
lead in their best three of five
Bluewater Fastball League, semi-
final ' series last Thursday by,
downing the Palmerston Midget
Imperials 11-1 in Palmerston.
Game three in the series was
played Last night in Belmore. .
Jeff Fischer posted the victory
on the mound for the Stingers.
Don Busby paced the Belmore
attack with three hits, including
two home runs and five RBIs, in
three at -bats.
Fischer was 2 -for -3 at the plate
.and Paul Tolton clouted a home
run for the Stingers. ,
Chad Reed was tagged with the
loss on the mound for Palmerston.

Wingham Pee Wees fall to Belgrave

Softball League playoffs, Wing -
ham gave Belgrave a scare, but for
the second straight game, Bel -
grave came from behind to win the
third and final game of the series
by one run, 3-2.
Wingham managed just a pair
• of hits in the contest, singles by
Kiel Watts and Steve Carter.
Kyle Anderson went the dis-
tance on the mound for Wingham,
allowing three runs on five hits
and two walks and struck out five.
Wingham was able to get run-
ners at second and third, with none
out, in their final at -bat, but Bel -
grave hurler Robbie McGee, who
went the distance, struck out the
next three batters to end the game.
With the loss to Belgrave, the
Pee Wees 1995 season carne to a
close.
To summarize the year, coach
Peter Snow reports that 1995 was
a success. The team ended up with
similar results in both the Tri -
County and WOAA Leagues.
In the Tri -County League, the
Pee Wees record, including exhi-
bition, tournament, regular season
and playoff games, was seven
wins, nine losses, and two ties in
the 18 games played.
The Pee Wees played 23
WOAA games and finished with a
record of 11 wins, and 12 Tosses.
The coach reported that all

Fifteen tables of shoot were in
play at the Wingham Legion Hall
last Monday.
Lois Chamney was high lady and
Audrey Edgar, second high. Nell
Johnston, playing as a man, was
high man and Garner Nicholson,
second high.
Florence Reid had the most
shoots for the women and Ross
Taylor for the men. Draw prizes
went to Bill Willis, Jean Deans,
Ora Bruce and Dennis Leddy.
The next Legion card party, a eu-
chre, will be held on Monday, Sept.
11.
players gave 100 per cent effort
during the entire season and every
player kept improving throughout
the season, as the final four
playoff games indicated. The last
four games were all low -scoring,
one -run games.
The team wrapped up the sea-
son with a fun night of bowling
and a barbecue.

ers and donators at the fun night,
