Belgrave Juveniles picked up a

Zurich scored two in the sec-
ond, but Belgrave replied with two
in the bottom of the inning singles
by Hogg and Don McPherson, a
walk to Todd Edgar and an error
on Todd Machan's ground ball.
Belgrave added two more in the
fifth on singles by Todd, Hogg,
and Shane Pegg and an error on
McPherson's ground ball. They
wrapped up the scoring inthe
sixth, scoring twice on Greig's
single, a walk to Todd and a
passed ball and a single by Hogg.
Belgrave collected four hits in
the game and only committed one
error for the win.
Todd picked up the winlast
Wednesday as the Juveniles
downed Lieury Red Sox 7-6.
He gave up eight hits and two
walks and recorded nine strike
outs.
Belgrave opened the scoring in
the first on Brad Robinson's triple
and Todd's single. They made it
2-0 in the third on Machan's dou-
ble, and Todd's single. Lieury took
the lead in the top of the fourth,
scoring four times.
Belgrave responded in the bot-
tom of the fourth onsingles by
Greig, and Chris Stewart, followed
by a walk to Brian Marks. Brent
Robinson then unloaded the bases
as he ripped a double to centre
field.
Lieury tied with one in the fifth,
but once again Belgrave fought
back, scoring two in the bottom of
the fifth as l oel Pegg and Dennis
Wintemute each singled and both
, eventually scored on Machan's
single.
Lieury scored one run in the
seventh and left the tying run at
third as the game ended.
The Belgrave Juveniles played
the two Brussels teams on July 14
and 16, in league play, and posted
a pair of victories.
Playing at home on the Sunday,
the Juveniles downed the Brussels
Tigers 6-2, and in Brussels on the
Friday, they edged the Bulldogs 3-
2.
The Tigers opened the scoring
with one in the first on an error, a
sacrifice bunt and a single by Ken
Higgins.
Belgrave responded with two in
the second on a single by Todd
and doubles by Brent Robinson
and Greig.
After Brussels tied the score in
the top of the third, Belgrave re-
plied with three on sinlges by Brad
Robinson and Hogg, and a three-

Belgrave wrapped up the scor-
ing in the fourth on Greig's triple
and a sacrifice fly by Brad Robin-
son.
Todd went the distance on the
mound; allowing six hits and four
walks and fanned five.
Doug Conley went six innings °
on the mound for the Tigers, giv-'
ing up eight hits and striking out
two.
Greig had a triple and double
for Belgrave in three at -bats. Brad
Robinson had a pair of singles in
three plate appearances.
Belgrave scored the first run, in
the Friday evening's pitchers'
duel, in the second inning on a
walk to Todd and a passed ball, a
ground out by Ken Hogg, and• a
fielders choice by Dennis Winte-
mute.
The Bulldogs took the lead in
the third by scoring a pair of runs.
Belgrave won it in the seventh on
a bunt single by Hogg. Hogg then
scored on Brent Robinson's fly
ball to right field which was mis-
handled by the fielder.
Todd went the distance on the
mound for Belgrave, allowing just
one hit and walking four and strik-
ing out nine.
Shawn Conley started on the
mound for the Bulldogs and lasted
three innings before being relieved
by Dave Smith. They allowed two
hits and three walks. and combined
for eight strike outs.
Colts run into strong pitching
Wingham Colts ran into strong
pitching Sunday afternoon 'as they
went against the Belmore Stingers
in Bluewater Fastball League play
at the Josephine Street ballpark in
Wingham.
The Stingers won the first game
with a hard-fought 10-9 extra -
inning game. In the. second half of
the double header, the Stingers
scored a 3-2 victory to run their
winning streak to three games.
Dave Eadie started on the
mound for the Stingers and went
until the seventh inning before be-
ing relieved by . younger brother
Chris. They allowed nine hits and
one walk and had six strike outs.
Scott Neil started for the Colts
and threw three innings before Ja-
son Daw took over. They gave up
' 14 hits and three walks and had
four strike outs.
Belmore catcher Jay Marston
paced the offence with four hits in
five at -bats. Centre fielder Don
Busby was 3 -for -4 at the plate and,
. left fielder Jeff Dickson had a pair
of hits in four plate appearances.
Left fielder Tom McDonald was
3 -for -4 at the plate for, the Colts.
First base player Jason Balzer had
one hit in two at -bats, and Daw
had two hits in five plate appear-
ances.
Shortstop Rob Anderson gave
the Colts' a temporary 3-2 lead' in'
the third inning with a two -run
triple.
The Stingers roared back with
five runs to take a 7-3 advantage.
First base player Balzer, started the .
Colts come -back with a• two -run
scoring double in the sixth inning.
Daw sent the game into extra in-
nings as he brought in a pair of
runs with a seventh inning single.
Chris Eadie• put the Stingers in
front in the top of the ninth inning
with a run -scoring single.
Chris Eadie tossed a three -hitter
in the second game, as the Sting-
ers scored another one -run victory.
He gave just one walk and struck
out 11.
Bill Haines went, the distance on
the mound for the Colts, giving up
seven hits and striking out three.
Third base player Scott Smith
had two hits, including a run -
scoring triple in the fifth to give
the Colts a 2-0 lead, in three at -
bats. Short stop Jeff Fischer, had
one hit, a run -scoring single in the
fifth to give,Beltnore •a 3-0 advan-
tage in three at -bats. Right fielder
Scott Dickson wag 1 -for -3 at the
plate.
Short stop Anderson clubbed a
triple in two plate appearances for
the Colts. First base player Steve
Bourne and right fielder Rob Har-
rison were each 1 -for -2.
Five athletes from the Wingham.
Optimist Track and Field Club
competed in the Bantam, Midget
Junior Ontario championships
held at the Centennial Stadium in
Kitchener on the weekend.
In a field of over 1,000 athletes
competition was excellent. The
Wingham athletes had some
strong performances and were able
to win seven medals.
Janet Lisle was 'second in the
bantam girls (13=14 -year-old) dis-
cus with a personal best three of
24.14 metres. She was third in the
shot put with a toss of 8.40 metres.
She was sixth in the 80 -metre
hurdles with a personal best time
of 13.7 seconds, seventh in the
long jump with a leap of 4.65 me -
tress and seventh in the 250 -metre
hurdles with a personal best time
of 43.03 metres.
Audrae Dickson was fifth in the
bantam girls triple jump with a
leap of 9.54 metres, and eighth in
the long jump with a leap of 4.64
metres. She ran the 80 -metre hur-
dles. in 15 seconds flat and cleared
the high jump bar at 1.35 metres.
Mary, Lisle was first in the mid-
get girls (15 -16 -year-old) discus
with a throw of 37.70 metres, and
first in the shot put with a toss of
11.64 metres. She wassecond in
the long jump with a leap of 4.95
metres.
Mike Nolan was seventh in the
midget boys shot put with a toss of
12.83 metres and seventh in the
discus with a throw of 36.52 me-
tres. He was 1 1th in the 300 -metre
hurdles with a time of 44 seconds
flat.
Julie Lisle was first in the junior
girls (17 -19 -year-old) pole vault
by clearing the bar at 2.84 metres.
She was third in the shot put with
a toss of 11.91 metres, and fourth
in the discus with a throw of 40.25
metres. She ran the 100 -metres
hurdles in 16.3 seconds.
Julie is in Vancouver this week-
end to compete in the Canadian
junior championship, and Mary
Lisle travels to Winnipeg next
month to take part in the Canadian
Legion track and field champion-
ships.
Squirts post pair of wins
The Wingham Legion Squirts
played a pair of games last week
and were victorious in both con-
tests.
The Squirts hosted Gowans -
town on Friday and needed a
come -from -behind effort to post a
17-10.
Gowanstown jumped off to a
seven run first inning lead only to
have Wingham battleback to pick
up the victory.
Adam Ryan led the offence
with a grand slam home run and a
single to drive in six runs. Scoring

Skinn, Pat Rozendal, and Chad
Skinn with two each. Single runs
were added by James Needham,
Paul Cardiff, Garnett Skinn and
Tim Barfoot.
O'Krafka went the distance on
the mound and after a shaky start,
settled down to pick up the pitch-
ing win.
Barry Skinn made the defensive
play of the game for Wingham
snagging a hard line drive on
Gowanstown's final at bat.
The squirts travelled to Ethel
last Wednesday and scored a 25-0
decision.
The much improved Ethel
squad was no match for the Wing -
ham squad.
Ryan led the hitting attack with
a long home run and two RBI sin-
gles. Scoring runs for Wingham

Lisle places
third overall
in pentathlon
David Lisle of the Wingham
Optimist Track and Field Club
competed in the Combined Events
championship for minor -aged ath-
letes in Bramelea on the weekend.
He was strong in the throws,
winningall three events. He had a
throw of 9.20 metres in the shot
put, 25.03 metres in the discus,
and 24.30 metres in the javelin.
In the three jumps, Lisle was
fifth overall with a 4.0 metre jump
ir.the limp jump, 8.03. metres leap
in the triple jump, and cleared the •
bar at 1.15 metres.
He completed the competition
by competing in the 100 metre and
400 metres to win third place over-
all in the pentathlon — best scor-
ing in five events.
