Dave Eadie pitched the entire
game for the Belmore Stingers as
the squad downed the Clifford 4
`Aces 13-3 last Thursday evening in
Bluewater Fastball League play.
Scott Smith and Jeff Fischer
each had homeruns for Belmore in
the winning cause.
The Stingers take on Palmerston
in Paimerston tomorrow evening,
July 6, before participating in the
Wroxeter tournament this weekend.
Bowlers
take to
greens
Comfortable weather greeted
lawn bowlers to the Laurentian
Bank -sponsored tournament last
Saturday at Wingham. Sixteen
teams participated from Lucknow,
Hanover, Atwood, Goderich, Clin-
ton and Wingham.
.The first -place team was skipped
by Don Haines of Clinton. Jack Fis-
cher's Lucknow team was second
and Ray Buchanan's Atwood
squad, third. Ken Chaput's Luck -
now team was fourth and Mac
MacKay of Wingham, fifth. Ken
Saxton Sr. of Wingham 'won the
consolation.
Dennis Schmidt of Goderich
won a set of mugs and Marion An-
derson, Hanover, a deck of cards.
The remaining bowlers each re-
ceived a pin .or key chain, golf tees
•or loonies.
New members, young or old, are
welcome at the lawn bowling club.

fishing
weekend
Anyone interested who would
like to try fishing for the first time
(or the first time in a long time) in
Ontario waters, circle the weekend
of July 7-9 on the calendar.
For those three days only (1,2:01
a.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday),
Canadian residents can enjoy the
fun of fishing in Ontario without a
licence during the seeond annual -y
Ontario Family Fishing Weekend.
All other regulations, fees and
limits will apply. People must
abide by the conservation licence
limits set out in the Ontario 1995
Sport Fishing Regulations Sum-
mary, available from fishing li-
cence issuers or the Ontario Minis-
try of Natural Resources.
The limit on walleye and, trout,
for example, may be two instead
.of five or six. Some fish, such as
perch or pumpkinseed, have no
limit. And, of course there is no
limit to the number of fish that can
be released.
Events related to this special
weekend will take,place across the
province. •

Emergency training...The Wingham Recreation Department's summer pool
and day camp staff were involved in emergency procedure training last week. The training in-
volved life-saving and rescue techniques in the pool and on land. One of the scenarios inv -
olved a swimming pool victim who dove into the shallow end of the pool, striking her head on
the bottom. Cheryl Underwood, Kyla IrvEne, Carolyn Pike, and Lisa Inwood receive assistance

Strikers improve record
The Wingham Strikers im-
proved their Huron County Atom
Co-ed Soccer League record to
five wins and a loss last Tuesday
evening by scoring a 3-0 decision
over the Lucknow Mustangs.
The Strikers opened the scoring
in the first minute on a nice set-up ,
by Tim Montgomery who made a
nice crossing pass td Billy
McGrail who scored.
Jeff Drost popped a high shot
over the Mustang goalie on a di-
rect kick for Wingham's second
goal.
Adam Skinn, with the help of a
strong breeze drilled a high shot
for the Strikers third marker.
The game was called early be-
cause of lightening.
Kathryn Askes played her best
game of the year and Laurita
McGrail was strong on the wing,
making several good passes:
The Green Machine scored a 3-
1 decision 'over the Stingers in
Wingham squirt division minor
soccer play last Wednesday
Scoring for the Green Machine
were . Andrew Glassier, Tyler De-
Vos, and Jordan Doig. .
Ryan Shaw was the lone goal
getter for the Stingers.

Fish day...Darlene Galbraith helps out Midwestern Re-
gional Centre client Sidney during the fish -out day for special
education students, held June 21 at the Wingham Sportsmen
Club. Over 80 people enjoyed the day of fishing.

Harold Carter and Hank Carter
were first in the double round 40 -
point game 'A' category of the horse-
shoes competition played last Thurs-
day at the Wingham Sportsmen Club.
They had four wins and were +75.
Paul' McKee and Lynn Hewitt
were second with four wins and +20.
Jim Nelson and Eric Hewitt were
third with three wins and +74,`A1
McKenzie and Al Schaus were fourth
with one win and +145.
B' Category
Dave Gulley and Wilf Towns were
first in the double round 40 -point
game 'B' category with six wins.
Dan Stacey and Jim Weppler were
second with three wins and +70. Bill
McAstocker and Terry Anger were
third with two wins and +99. Doug
Vanderwoude and Peter DeGroot
were fourth with one win and +135.

About 80 adults and children
participated in the annual day of
fishing for the area's special edu-
cation students at the Wingham
Sportsmen Club, on June 21.
It marked the 27th consecutive
year that the special education stu-
dents have enjoyed a day of fish-
ing at the sportsmen club pond.
The special education students
are from Wingham Public School,
and other area elementary schools,
and also F.E. Madill Secondary
School.
Clients from the Midwestern
Regional Centre in Palmerston
also take part in the day of fun.
The students and adults are on a
one-to-one ratio during the day of
fishing.

win over Aces
The Wingham Colts posted a 7-
3 decision over the home town
Clifford 4 Aces last Tuesday in
Bluewater Fastball League.
Tom McDonald went the dis-
tance on the mound for the Colts,
allowing nine hits and striking out
seven.
Reg Walls was tagged with the
defeat for the 4 Aces. He gave up
a dozen hits, two walks and struck
out nine in nine innings of work.
Left fielder Corey McKee hit an
RBI single in the fourth inning to
drive in the first run for the Colts.
First base player Bill Haines then
scored McKee with a double
Catcher Mike MacKay singled to
drive in two runs, giving Wing -
ham a 4-0 lead. Short stop Jason
Goodall singled to drive in the
Colts fifth run.
McDonald rapped out a run -
scoring single in the ninth inning
to give the Colts their 7-3 win.
Centre fielder Jason Daw,
MacKay, Goodall, and McDonald
each had two hits in five at -bats.
Right fielder Joel Rank and left
fielder Wes Hope were each 2 -for -
4 at the plate for Clifford, and cen-
tre fielder Don Leslie had one hit
in five at -bats.
