Colts doubled up by Palmerston
loses squeaker to Stingers
Palmerston Midgets scored an
8-4 decision over the Wingham
Colts in Bluewater Fastball
League play Sunday afternoon in a
game played at the Josephine
Street ballpark in Wingham.
In a game played in Belmore,
Friday evening, the Stingers edged
the Colts 7-6.
Scott Neil started on the mound
for the Colts on Sunday and went
six innings before being relieved
by Bill Haines. They gave up 12
hits and three walks and recorded
12 strike outs.
Chad Reid went the distance for
Palmerston, allowing seven hits
and four walks and had 11 strike
outs.
Third base player Tim Currie
had two hits, including a two -run
scoring single in the eighth inning
to tie the score, in four at -bats.
Daw went 2 -for -4 at the plate
for the Colts. Neil had one hit, a
solo home run in the seventh in-

Steve Hall was -3-for-4 for Pal-
merston and Mike Kaye had two
hits in four at -bats. Glen Hall had
one hit, a run -scoring single in the

Dave Eadie started on the
mound for the Stingers on Friday
with Chris Eadie hurling the final
three innings in relief. They al-
lowed eight hits and combined for
18 strike outs.
Daw started for the Colts and
Haines took over in the seventh.
They gave up 10 hits and three
walks and had five strike outs.

In a game played in Palmerston
on June 5, the Colts scored a 9-2
decision over the Midgets in a
game which lasted seven innings.
Daw went the distance on the
mound, allowing sik hits and two
walks and recording 13 strike outs.
Currie was 2 -for -3 at the plate
and Daw and Kyle Wheeler each
had a pair of hits in four at -bats.
Wheeler clouted -a solo home run
in the third inning.
Scott Neil...pitched six strong innings on Sunday afternoon, and even helped himself
at the plate, but it was not enough as the Colts fell 8-4 to Palmerston Midgets.

Hole in one competition
There's a brand new car courtesy
of John Cullen Motors parked out
at the Wingham Golf and Curling
Club, waiting for that ace duffer to
drop the ball in one shot. With that,
another $25,000 arranged by Keil
Insurance.
The Hole in one shootout contin-
ues until September 23. Partici-
pants can purchase a ball for a dol-
lar, or buy 12 for $10. They then
shoot towards a six foot circle,' 155
yards away, hoping to finish inside
the circle.
On Sept. 23, the 50 closest to the
pin from over the summer qualify
for the final at 2:00. They will have
one shot for the big money and the
new car.
The 1995 Fundraising Chairman
Gord Dougan said the contest will
run every Saturday and Sunday
throughout the summer. The money
raised ' goes toward improvements
at the local golf club.
On Sept. 23, the event will wrap
up with a casino night, BBQ and
dance.

Gifford claims super modified class
Jack Gifford of Pehlps, New
York, and Chris Sarkision of
Orangeville tied for first in the
first event of the super modified
division of the tractor pull held'
Saturday at Bluevale.
Dave Proudlove of St. Marys
was runner-up and Dave Ryan of.
Bluevale was third.
Gifford was first in the second
event, with Ryan placing second.
Proudlove and . Sarkision shared
third place,honors.
In the limited class, Bill Dearis
of St. Thomas won the first event.
Steve Spudik of Bolton was sec-
ond, .Mike Stover of Aylmer was
third and Ed Burgers of Bluevale
was fourth.
In the second event, Stover was
first, Spudik was second and Mark
Baigent of Thamesford was third.
Jets suffer setback in Clinton
The Wingham Jets travelled to
Clinton on Thursday in North I1u-
ron Mosquito Soccer League play
and were handed a 5-2 setback by
the Clinton Cannons.
Scoring for Wingham were
Tami Kerr and Owen O'Neil.
The: Green Machine defeated
the Blue Jays 9-4 in Wingham mi-
nor soccer play last Wednesday.
Tyler deVos scored five times
for the Green Machine and Jordan
Doig added a pair. Single goals
were booted by Andrew Glassier
and Michael Hoskins.
Adam O'Neil scored all four
goals for the Blue Jays.
Jared McIntyre and Kris McDo-
nald scored one goal each last„

The Wingham Legion Squirts
posted a pair of victories in Tri -
County Fastball League play dur-
ing the past week.
The Squirts played host to Brus-
sels on Thursday and earned a
hard-fought 10-8 decision. The
team travelled to Walton last Mon-
day and scored a 21-15 victory.
Against Brussels on Thursday;
the Wingham squad had to battle
back from a four -run deficit by
scoring six runs in the fourth in-
ning and three more runs in the
fifth to hand Brussels its first loss
of the season.
Scoring runs far Wingham were
Zack O'Krafka and Derek Marks
with two apiece, Barry Skinn,
Adam Ryan, Garrett Skinn, Chad
Skinn, Chris Watts, and James
Needham with one each.
O'Krafka went the distance on
the mound, allowing six hits and
six walks, while striking out four.
The Squirts pounded out 20 hits
last Monday as they downed Wal-
ton: O'Krafka, Marks, Ryan and
Chad Skinn had three hits
apiece.
Garrett Skinn, Pat Rozendal,
Nathan MacTavish and Paul -Car-
diff chipped in with two hits
apiece.
Tim Barfoot and ,Needham
-walked four times between them
with Needham scoring three runs.
Barry Skinn went the distance
on the mound for Wingham as he
struck out seven Walton batters to
post the victory.

first in the double round 4Q -point
game 'A' division of horseshoes
competition last Thursday 'at the
Wingham Sportsmen Club. They had
four wins and were +59.
Paul McKee and Bernie Bender
were second with three wins and
+82. Jack Arnold and Jim Nelson
were4third with three wins and +74.
Lloyd Carter and Lynn Hewitt were
fourth with two wins and +100.

Dave Golley and Ivan Gardner
were first in the single round `B' di-
vision with four wins and +35. Hank

Bill MacAstocker and Lorne Ham-
ilton were third with three wins and

Wednesday as the Red Dogs
edged the Yellow Stingers 2-1.
Ryan Shaw scored the lone goal

Shawn Walker booted four
goals last Tuesday as the Optimist
Strikers blanked Goderich Resort-
ers 7-0.
Billy McGrail added two goals
and Tim Readman booted his first
