down Gorrie
Kevin Waechter clubbed a triple
last Tuesday as the Wingham
Reds Squirts defeated Gorrie 21-4
at the Optimist Park in Wingham.
Waechter and Jason Schut
shared pitching dudes for the
Reds, allowing four hits and 11
walks and combined for 14 strike
outs.
Justin McKinlay and Chris
Wickens each hit a double with
Kent McPherson rapping out a
pair of singles.
Kent Readman had t single and
received a walk and Schut and
Shawn English had one single and
two walks. Andrew Scammell re-
ceived three walks, and Zane Da-
vies, Matt Dinning, Duane Schies-
tel each received two walks.
. Shawn Deyell received one walk.
McPherson and Davies each hit
a double on June 5 as they defeat-
ed Seaforth 13-7.
Schut had a triple and double on
May 29 as the Reds downed Wal-
ton 14-8. Schiestel clouted a doa-
ble.
The Reds play the W'Ingham
'Blues at 7 p.m..on Monda ' at the

1,000 strike out
Ross Baird posted hits 1,000 ca-
reer strike out on Sunday as fire In-
termediate Steelhawks outlasted
the Lakeshore Heat 7-5 in 11 in-
, flings.
Jeremy Creeden clubbed a
home run for the Steelhawks in the
Bluewater Fastball Leegue,contest
played last Monday evening in
Southampton.
Jeff Sanborn was tagged with
the loss on ,Sunday as the Steel -
hawks were edged by Clifford 4
Aces.
Reg Walls posted the decision

Bob Thomas was elected presi-
dent of the Brussels Bulls at the
Western Junior 'C' Hockey
League team's annual meeting on
June 7.
Wayne Todd was elected first
vice-president for the 1995-96 sea-
son and Joyce Jacklin was re-
turned as secretary -treasurer. The
team is looking for a second vice-
president, and three more direc-
tors.
Gerry Wheeler is the past presi-
dent.
Midgets
edged by
Chepstow
Belgrave Midgets were handed
a 4-3 setback last Wednesday by
Chepstow' in WOAA Midget Soft-
ball League play.
Belgrave opened the scoring,
plating two runs in the second in-
ning on Brent Robinson's single, a
stolen base and Joel Pegg's dou-
ble. Pegg moved to third on a
passed ball and scored on Todd
Edgar's ground out to second. Bel -
grave made it 3-0 in the fourth as
Robinson singled, stole ,second
scored on Edgar's single.
Chepstow rebounded in the'
fifth, taking full advantage of a
couple of misplayed fly balls'7 in
the outfield to tie the score at
three.
Chepstow scored the winner in
the sixth. Belgrave had a chance in
the bottom of the sixth, but
couldn't cash in runners at second'
and third with one out.
Pegg started on the mound for
Belgrave and went five innings be-
fore being relieved by Brent Rob-
inson. They allowed eight hits and
two walks and recorded four strike
outs.
Terry Graf went the distance on
the mound for Chepstow, giving
up six hits and two walks and
posted eight strike outs.
Robinson had three singles in
three at -bats. Graf had a triple and
double in four plate appearances
for Chepstow.

Athletic awards...The top athletic awards for Madill Secondary School were pre-
sented last Tuesday. Recipients were Julie Lisle, Olympian award; Lara Fenton, McKibbon Tro-
phy; Sarah Buck, female athlete of the year; Pat McGlynn, male athlete of the year, lbby Omole,

McGlynn, Buck selecte
top athletes of the year
Sarah Buck .and Pat McGlynn
were the recipients of Madill Sec-
ondary School's top athlete of the
year awards.
The awards were presented last
Tuesday evening during the
schools athletic banquet. The
theme for the banquet was
'Achievement'.
Buck was named the top female
athlete and McGlynn was selected
as the top male athlete for the sec-
ond consecutive year.
The McKibbon Trophies for
sportsmanship and effort were pre-
sented to Lara Fenton, Ibby
Oniole,•and Bryan DeBruyn.
- Julie Lisle was presented with
the Olympian award.
Master of ceremonies Chris
Coulthard said that 1994-95 was
an exceptional year for -athletics at
Madill. The school captured 17
Huron -Perth championships, three
WOSSA titles, and sent six ath-
letes to the OFSAA track and field
championships.
Coulthard made a special pres-
entation to Don Dennis, who is re-
tiring this year after 34 years of
teaching and coaching, 27 years at
Madill and seven years at Luck -
now High School.
Joanne VanKeulen received the
outstanding effort award for the
badminton team and McGlynn re-
ceived the outstanding drive
award.
The Madill girls curling four-
some of Lori Exel, Tanya Kleist,
Tenille Cranston, and Christa
Ritchie received special recogni-
tion for bringing the school its first
Huron -Perth championship. •
Carolyn pike received an out-
standing performance award for
play on the tennis team.
Nathan Anger received a team
leader award on the cross-country
team. Most valuable team mem-
bers medallions were presented to
John Deyell and Buck.
All members of the junior boys
volleyball teat, which finished
fourth at the .WOSSA champion-
ship,l1received certificates for their
total team effort.
McGlynn received a medallion
for being the team leader on the
senior boys volleyball squad and
giving an effort 'above and beyond
the call of • duty,' according to
coach Barry Simpson. ,
Mary Lisle was the most valu-
able player on the junior. girls vol-
leyball team. Amber Ruttan was
• the most improved player.
Angela Huber received a medal-
lion for her competitive spirit and
Janice Nicholson received 'a me-
'dallion for her leadership.
All players on the junior girls
basketball team received certifi-
cates.
Andrea Rammeloo was the
most improved player on the sen-
ior girls basketball team and
Huber received a medallion for
' her outstanding effort.
Each member of the midget
boys basketball team received a
certificate.
Darryl Brewer was the most im-
proved player on the junior hoys
team and Tyler Brooks received a
medallion, for his outstanding ef-
fort.
McGlynn was named the most
valuable player on the senior hoys
team.

dles, shot put, long jump, 60 -metre
hurdles, and the girls. open pole
vault; Heather Askes for senior
girls high jump and triple jump;

javelin; Andy Shaw for the boys
ambulatory 100 metres; Dennis
Lubbers for the midget boys 800
metres; Mike Nolan for the midget

Belgrave Juveniles fall to Monkton
score onerun win over Zurich
The Belgrave Juveniles were in-
volved in a pair of 5-4 games in
Huron County Fastball League
play last week winning one and
losing the other.
Playing in Monkon on Friday
evening, the Juveniles were hand-
ed a 5-4 setback. The Juveniles
were in Zurich Last Monday, scor-
ing a 5-4 victory.
Todd Machan opened Friday's
game with a home run. Brad Rob-
inson singled and Brent Robinson
tripled which resulted in starting
Monkton hurler Dave Whetstone
being pulled. Joel Pegg greeted
Jeff Smith with a sacrifice fly to
score Robinson.
Monkton replied in the bottom
of the first scoring a run on a
walk, a single, and a passed hall.
Monkton scored another in the
second and one more in the third
to tie the game at three.
Belgrave made it 4-3 in the
fourth on Dennis Wintemute's sin-
gle Jason Kieffer's sacrifice bunt
and Todd Edgar's single. Monkton
evened the score again in the sixth
on a walk, two stolen bases and a
wild pitch. Monkton won the
game in the seventh on a single, a
stolen base, a walk, and another
single.
Kieffer went the distance on the
mound for Belgrave, allowing four
hits and four walks and striking
out seven in a losing cause.

Whetstone started for Monkton
but was relieved by Smith in the
first inning. They gave up eight
hits and a walk and combined for
12 strike outs.
Brad Robinson had three singles
in three at -bats for Belgrave and
Wintemute had a pair of singles in
three plate appearances.
Keith Todd started on the
mound for Belgrave last Monday
and lasted five innings before be-
ing relieved by Joel Pegg. They al-
lowed four hits and six walks and
combined for 10 strike outs.
Mike Greig had a home run and
single in three at -bats. Singles
were slapped out by Machan, Dan
Gusso, and Brad Robinson.
