The Wingham Strikers scored a
2-1 decision over the, Wingham
Wings in the atom division of the
North Huron Soccer League play
last Thursday.
Tommy Pettigrew scored the
first goal for the Strikers with help
from Adam Skinn. Skinn booted
the second goal with Femi Omole
earning the assist.
Eric Camm netted the lone goal
for the Wings with Tyson Glassier
and Brent Martin earning the as-
sists. `
All the scoring was done in the
second half.
Billy Schaefer and Jeff Maro-
nets .shared goaltending duties for
the Wings. Bill McGrail was in
goal for Strikers.
Strikers coaches Scott Pettigrew
and John Chippa are pleased to see
some strong passing and play
making developing.
The Wings played Clinton
Commotion last night and the
Strikers travelled to Goderich to
play the Resorters, last night.
Jared Maclntyre and Scott
Coulthard scored one goal apiece
as the Red Dogs defeated the Blue
' Jays 2-1 in minor soccer league
play last Wednesday.
Everyone played hard and the
teams have improved a great deal
since the beginning of the season.
The Green Machine and the
Yellow. Stingers played to a 1-1
draw last Wednesday.
Jordan Doig scored for the
Green Machine and Devon Miller
replied for the Yellow Stingers,

Belmore Stingers split a pair of
games in Bluewater Fastball
League play last week.
Chris Eadie suffered the setback
Sunday afternoon as Chepstow
Aces downed the Stingers 7-2.
George Bester posted the win
for the Aces and Darryl Wheeler
clubbed a home run for the home
runs.
Eadie hurled a no-hitter last
Monday evening as the Stingers
blanked the Lakeshore Heat 5-0.
The Stingers host the Wingham
Colts on Friday at 8:45 p.m.
Belgrave
Midgets
play Wroxeter
to 6-6 draw
Belgrave Midgets held a 5-3 ad-
vantage after five innings of play,
but Wroxeter tied the WOAA
Midget League contest with two in
the sixth.
They took the lead with a run in
the top of the seventh. Belgrave
tied the contest in their last at bat
on Eric Andrew's double and Joel
Pegg's single.
Brent Robinson went seven in-
nings on the mound for Belgrave,
allowing 12 hits and two walks
and striking out seven.
Dean Wheeler went the distance
for Wroxeter, giving up 11 hits
and one walk and striking out five.
Centre fielder Brian Marks was
2 -for -3 at the plate for Belgrave.
Shortstop Pegg, second base
player Andrews and , first base
player Dan Gusso each had two
hits in four at -bats for the Midgets.
Todd Edgar clouted a double
for Belgrave while Arley Pautler
and Brent Robinson each had a
single.
First base player Jeremy Creed -
en had a home run and a single in
three at -bats for Wrotieter. Short -
Stop Jeff King`had a Pair of singles
in four plate appearances and Da-
vid Greig clubbed a home run in
four at -bats.

Reid selected
by Generals
in 12th round
Jason Reid of the Wingham Ir-
onmen was drafted by the Oshawa
Generals at the OHL's draft held
Saturday at Maple Leaf Gardens.
Reid, a goaltender with the Ir-
onmen during the 1994-95 season,
was selected in the 12th round,
199th .overall.
The 16 -year-old product of the
Ripley Minor Hockey Association
travels to Oshawa this Sunday for
a team barbecue and a physical.
He will also be given a condition-
ing program.
Reid told The Advance -Times
Monday afternoon that he was
really happy about being drafted.
"I am really excited," he said.
Reid was one of three goaltend-
ers drafted by the. Generals. One
was from the Ottawa area and the
other — Tyrone Gardner — was a
member of the Stoney Creek Jun-
ior 'C' club, a team Reid played for
prior to joining the Ironmen of the
Western Junior 'C' Hockey
League.
The Generals will also have one
returning goaltender in camp.
The Generals training camp be-
gins Aug. 28.
Also drafted from the Western
Junior 'C' Hockey League was
Walkerton . Blackhawk goaltender
Denver England. He was drafted
the Soo Greyhounds in the 11th
round.

Juveniles fall to Francistown
post win over Brussels Tigers
The Belgrave Juveniles split a
pair of Huron County Fastball
League contests last week.
The Juveniles fell to the Fran-
cistown Flyers on Sunday, in a
game played at the Kinsmen Park
in Belgrave. On Friday evening in
Brussels, the Juveniles scored a
10-4 decision over the Tigers.
Francistown scored one run in
the first inning and added two
more in the fourth to take a 3-0
lead. Belgrave's bats were fairly
quiet as they only managed seven
hits.
The Flyers added • three more
runs in the fifth and put their final.
run across the plate in the top of
the seventh.

the. seventh, as Dennis Wintemute
walked, Milne Greig had a bunt
single, Keith Todd then stroked a
double to score both runners. Todd
later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Todd Machan.
Joel Pegg and Wintemute also
had a single for the Juveniles in .
the contest.
Pegg started on the mound for
Belgrave and lasted four innings
before being relieved by Brent
Robinson. They allowed nine hits
and one walk and combined for
five strike outs.
Robinson hit a double in his
lone at -bat. Left fielder Greig had
a triple and single in three plate
appearances and second base
player Brad Robinson clubbed a
triple in four plate appearances.
Todd hurled a four -hitter on Fri-
day as the Juveniles downed the
Tigers. kle al.o gave tip five walks
and had five strike outs.
Todd Meehan started the game
with a single, which seemed to fire
everybody up as every Belgrave
player, except Machan, crossed
the plate during the game. The'
first and sixth innings were the
only innings Belgrave failed to
Score.
Second base player Eric An-
drew, was 3 -for -4 at the plate,
catcher Shawn Fair was 3 -for -5,
and first base player Pegg had two
hits in four at -bats.
Cord Machan clouted a triple in
the second inning to bring Bel -
grave's first run across' the plate,
Greig and Todd also had two
singles apiece. SJiane Pegg
smacked a double while Brent
Robinson and Ken Hogg each
rapped out a single.
Doug Conley started on the
mound for the Tigers, and was re-
lieved by Todd Uhrig in the sixth
fining. They gave up 17 hits and
combined fbr 10 strike out&

The Wingham' Colts scored a
pair of victories last week in Blue -
water Fastball League play.
Playing at the Josephine Street
ballpark on Sunday afternoon, the
Colts edged past Lakeshore Heat
2-1. In Belmore on Friday, , the
Colts defeated the Intermediate.
Steelhawks 11-4.
Scott Neil hurled a five -hitter
Sunday$ afternoon, allowing five
hits and one strike out while fan-
ning 15.
Steve - Thede was tagged with
the setback as he gave up four hits
and a walk and struck out nine.
The Colts scored their first run
in the second inning when right
fielder grounded out. Second base
player Andrew Gibson and pitcher
Neil had both singled.
Neil drove in the winning run in
the seventh inning when he rapped
out a run scoring single.
Neil was 2 -for -3 at the plate for
the Colts and Gibson had one hit
on four at -bats.
First base player Pierce was 2 -
for -4 at the plate for the Heat and
catcher Lamont had one hit in four
plate appearances.
Tom McDonald started on the
mound for the Colts with Jason
Daw taking over in the eighth to
post. the win. They allowed eight
hits and five walks and combined
for nine strike outs,
Ross Baird started for the Steel -
hawks with Jeff Sanburn and Den-
nis Wintemute seeing relief duty.
They gave up 12 hits and three
walks and combined for 10 strike
outs.. -
The Colts • won the game in the
top of the eighth as they overcame
a 4-1 deficit. Gibson doubled to
score a run, Neil doubled to score
Gibson and then shortstop Jason
Goodall doubled to drive in'a pair
of runs to give the Colts a 5-4
lead. Left' fielder Harrison singled
to drive in another run. -
Catcher Ben Blackwell was 2 -
for -3 at the plate for the Colts,
with centre fielder Ryan Deyell
getting three hits in five at -bats,
and third base player Tim Currie
had one hit in three plate appear-
ances.
Catcher Wintemute was 3 -for -i*
at the plate -for the Steelhawks
with right fielder Jeff Pike getting
two hits in four at -bats.
The Colts travel to Belmore on
Friday to play the Stingers at 8:45
p.m. and then host Palmerston
Midgets at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The
Steelhawks were in Southampton
on Monday to play the Lakeshore
Heat and then host the Chepstow
Aces at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and
then host Clifford 4 Aces at 2 p.m.
on Sunday.
Legion
Squirts
score 7-6 win
over Belgrave
The Wingham Legion Squirts
hosted Belgrave on Thursday and
came away with a hard fought 7-6
decision.
Wingham managed only four
hits but showed a keen eye as they
received nine walks. Adam Ryan,
Zack O'Kratka, Derek Marks and
Nathan MacTavish collected the
hits,
Scoring runs for Wingham were
O'Krafka with a pair, and singles
by Marks, Pat Rozendai, Chad
Skinn, James Needham, and Tim
Barfoot.
Chad Skinn started on the
mound, allowingtwo runs on one
hit and walked a pair in two in-
nings. O'Krafk?t hinted the final
four innings, allowing only two
hits, walking five and striking out
five to post the win. °
Defensively, BarfOot made two
timely catches in the field and
Chris Watts snagged a hard shot in
the field to collect the final out of
the game.
The Squirts travelled to Gerrie
last Monday and came back home
with a 17-1 victory.
Offensively it was a team effort
fer Wingham with all 12 players
scoring and seven different players
collecting RBIs. Watts led the hit-
ting
itting attack with two doubles and
four runs batted in.
O`Kraflta picked up the win on
the mound as he allowed five hits
and fanned six in five innings.
Chad Skinn came in to finishand
allowed two hits and no runs .fill
one inning of work. -
Next home game for the Squirts
is Thtfrsday when they host Brus-
sels at the Josephine Street ball
park.
