Zoning amendment Planning workshop for Lower Town
Turnberry Township policies to be examined in July
approved for business
Stu's relocating to township
BELGRAVE - Stu's Stove Shoppe
and Chimney Sweep of White-
church is moving to East Wawa -
nosh Township.
Stu's Stove Shoppe owner Greg
Stuart was at East Wawanosh
Township council last Tuesday to
find out if the zoning amendment
would be approved.
Council approved the amend-
ment to the zoning by-law, at its
monthly meeting last Tuesday.
The amendment would change
the zoning of the East half of Lot
32 on Concession 14 from general
agriculture (AG1) to general agri-
culture - special zones (AG1-4).
The purpose of the amendment
was to expand the definition of a,
home industrial use for the proper-
ty in question in order to allow for
the establishment of a chimney
sweep and stove business within
the existing accessory garage lo-
cated on the property.
The property contains one exist-
ing residence, one accessory gar-
age, and one accessory storage
shed. The property is approximate-
ly 100 acres in size, and includes
lands zoned natural environment
1, 2, and 3, and fronts Highway
86.
Brian Treble of the Huron
County Planning Department said
the re -zoning would not jeopardize
agricultural practices of neighbor-
ing farms.
He added that there was no ob-
jections from the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority.
Neil Edgar, a neighbor, said he
had no objections to the re -zoning,
but was concerned about another
neighbor across the highway who
had built a pond.
Council approved the zoning
amendment, but there is a 20 -day
appeal period. If there are no ob-
jections then the by-law is ofcicial.
East Wawanosh Township,
Blyth Union Cemetery.
East Wawanosh Township council was informed at its last meeting
that the Blyth Union Cemetery was owned by Hullett Township.
However,'the township was going to 'quick deed' the cemetery in or-
der to turn it over to the Village of Blyth. The Village of Blyth would
then be responsible for it.
East Wawanosh Township council also heard that boards cannot ask
for levies from member municipalities, but they can ask for donations.
Concern about severance
East Wawanosh Township council received notice from Morris
Township about a severance application by John Richmond of Lot 1
Concession 4. ,
Council was concerned that if a residence was built on the property in
Morris Township, the property owner across the road in East Wawa -
nosh Township would not be able to expand his barn.
East Wawanoshwas in favor of the severance on the condition that a
residence was not built on the property in quesiton.

Dr. Gary Davidson and Sandra
Marks of the county planning de-
partment attended the first monthly
meeting of Turnberry council.
They reported that a workshop to
discuss planning policies proposed
for Lower Town will be held in
July, possibly at Turnberry Central
School.
A public meeting will be held in
the Bluevale hall on Aug. 3 at 8
p.m.• to discuss official plan poli-
cies.
SWIMMING POOL BYLAW
Council gave first, second and
third reading to a swimming pool
bylaw, as presented by Paul Jo -
sling, chief building official.
The bylaw requires that all new-
ly -constructed swimming pools in
the township be fenced, regardless
of whether they are in the urban
area or the country. It is not retroac-
tive to pools already constructed,
but Josling can suggest that owners
fence their pools anyway.
TAX BILLING
A discussion ensued on having
three tax payments in the township.
Turnberry currently has two tax in-
stallments, one in the spring and
one in the fall, but some ratepayers
have requested three instalments.
The clerk suggested making a
special arrangement for anyone
with the first instalment of over
$20,000. Those few owners could
have payments due May 26, July
28 and Sept. 29, Clerk -Treasurer
Dorothy Kelly suggested and no in-
terest charges until those due dates.
As the tax bills for 1995 already
have been printed for this yeg and
sent out, nothing can bedone this
East Wawanosh accepts

BELGRAVE - East Wawanosh
Township council accepted tenders
for the construction of a sand/salt

of the Westfield Road at its June
meeting last Tuesday evening.
Four tenders were received for
the sand/salt storage building,
while just two were accepted for

Johns said her own goals will be
in the area of financial responsibili-
ty. She said she understands the
people want fiscal responsibility
from the government and they !ant
someone to do something positive
about the deficit. As for any partic-
ular position with the Mike Harris
government, Johns wouldn't specu-
late. Following the announcement
she had taken her riding, Johns
would only say she will be pre-
pared for whatever Harris has in
mind for her. Some political insid-
ers have her pegged for a position
of greater responsibility given her
extensive education and small busi-
ness. experience.
She has also said she intends to
provide Huron with a strong voice
at Queen's Park, despite the possi-
bility that the riding could be ex-
panded to match the federal boun-
daries under Harris's plan to reduce
gover,,pment from 130 MPPs to 99.
The PCs will take over from Pre-
mier Bob Rae and the NDP on June
26. The first priority, according to
the Harris office, will be welfare re-
form.
was the . accepted tender for the
sand/salt building.
The construction of the 32 -foot -
by -48 -foot building will cost
$73,099. The paving tender for the
fourth line was awarded to Cox
Construction of Guelph at "a total
cost of $77,633. The township will
pay $34.55 per metric tonne for the
asphalt.
Tenders for the sand/salt build-
ing were received from Gary Cald-
well Construction of RR 3 Blyth,
Landmark Construction of Hano-
ver and VandenHeuvel Construc-
tion of Goderich.
The paving of the Westfield
Road, from Lot 34 to Lot 37, will
be completed by Aug. 25. The
pavement will be 1 3/4 inches
thick, and will be compacted. The
only other asphalt tender came
from Lavis Construction of Clin-
ton.
Although the two bids were ac-
cepted, council was concerned
about the total cost of the projects.
The total cost of the two projects
was pared down to $150,732, after
an original total price of over
$174,000.
Township roads superintendent
Ralph Campbell said he had only
budgeted $147,800 for both pro-
jects. He added that the total 1995
budget for roads was over
$466,000 with $217,000 already
,being spent.
The roads superintendent noted
that they would get some of the
GST back, and that the township
had already received $50,000 to-
wards the building.
Coun. Jim Hunter didn't think
they should take anything out of
the road department's reserves.
Council decided not to build the
equipment storage shed, and also
withdrew the optional items of the
asphalt pad and the eavestrough-
ing.
Roads superintendent Campbell
said they could do without the pad,
but they needed the sand/salt stor-
age building.
