Stojko confirms he'll
skate at Celeb Classic
LONDON - Two-time World Cup
champion and Olympic silver
medalist Elvis Stojko has con-
firmed that he will perform at
Thompson - Arena on Saturday,
June 24 at 2 p.m.
Stojko is presently tide number
one ranked skater in the world and
he will be the featured performer
in a special which will also in-
clude Brian Orser, Michelle Men-
zies and Jean -Michel Bombardier,
Samantha Marchant and Chad
Hawse, Jennifer Robinson, and
Kerry Salmoni (confirmed to
date).
The Celebrity Classic is the an-
nual fund-raising event for the
Alan Thicke Centre for Juvenile
Diabetes Research based at Lon-
don's University Hospital. Estab-
lished in 1989, the first five years
have raised more than $250,000
for the research program.
After the afternoon skating
show, a gala evening at the Radis-
son Hotel will bring out a host of
additional celebrities including
hockey legend Gordie Howe, skat-
ing star Josee Chouinard, and En-
rico Calantoni, the co-star from
Alan Thicke's new television se-
ries, Hope and Gloria.
Tickets for the skating show are
!$35 for adults and $25 for children
12 and under. They go on sale Sat-
urday, May 20 at Centennial Hall
and Tuesday, May 23 at Thomp-
son Arena. VISA and MasterCard

Optimists support soccer...The Wingham
Optimist Club is once again assisting the local minor soccer
program. The club recently gave the local association $2,500
for new jerseys, due 'to the increased enrollment, and equip-

Green Machine drop
Blue Jays in division
Jordon Doig and Tyler deVos
scored two goals apiece last
Wednesday as the Green Machine
downed the Blue Jays 5-2 in the
squirt division of Wingham minor
soccer.
Andrew Glassier chipped in
with a single goal.

Adam O'Neil and Xavier
O'Krafka.
The Red Dogs shut out the Yet -
.,
low Stingers 2-0 in a second squirt
division contest.
Jared McIntyre and Kris Mac-
Donald were the goal getters for
the Red Dogs.
In a game played May 17, the
Green Machine downed the Yel-
low Stingers 4-1.
DeVos scored three .times for
the winners with Glassier adding a
single marker:
David Gurnick was the lone
goal getter for the Yellow Sting-
ers.
Wingham PS holds
annual track day
Wingham Public School held its
annual track and field day last
Thursday at the F.E. Madill Sec-
ondary School track.
Jessica Kemp was first in the
mite girls division with 16 points.
Leisa McClory and Laura Ritchie
were second with 11 points and
Melissa Whitehead, was third with
seven points.
Jordan Doig was first in the
mite boys with. 21 points. Scott
Coulthard was second with 15
points and Adam O'Neil was• third
with .11 points.
. Jaden Dickson was first in the
tyke girls with 25 points. Julie No-
lan was runner-up with 21 points
and Crystal Bailey was third with
15 points.
Tom. Pettigrewwas first in the
tyke boys with 23 points. Brendan
Chester and Joel. Riley shared sec-
ond spot with 12 points, and Barry
Guse was third with nine points.
Trina Daw and Tami Kerr
shared first place honors in the
atom girls with 21 points. Kate
Lane and Tiffani Shaw shared sec-
ond place with 13 points, and Les- -
ley Burton was third with six
points.
Brett Coulthard was first in the
atom boys with 21 points. Jamie
Chester was runner-up with 18
points, and Matthew Dinning was
third with 16 points.
Janet Lisle was first in the ban-
tam girls with, 25 points. Audrae
Dickson was second with 18
points and Bethany Lindsay was
third with 11 points.
Adam Fenton was first in the
close bantam boys category with
14 -points. Jamie Gunson and Mike
Blackwell shared second place
with 13 points, and Jamie Koch
was third with 12 points.
The winners are invited to com-
pete in the North Huron track and
field day, scheduled for June 1 at
the Howick Central School.

A Poker Run, organized by
RAM (Regional Area Motorcy-
clist), will be held this Saturday.
Registration will be held at River-
side Park between 10 a.m. and 2
p.m. on Saturday. All proceeds
from this event will be going to-
wards Easter Seal Kids, and the „
Wingham Lions Club. Last year
they raised approximately $600,
and hope to surpass that amount
this year.
"Everyone is welcome, and
there will even be prizes and tro-
phies for the best poker hand, and
the most pledges this year," said
Corey Wormington, an active
member of RAM.
The cost of the Poker Run is $5
for a poker hand, and $10 for three.
If you bring in your pledge sheet
with $20 or more in pledges you
get three free poker hands! Pledge
sheets are available at Blackhorse
Cycle, Kincardine, or the Wing -
ham Drive -In Cleaners.
"So far the response has been
excellent, and we've even had
people coming in for more pledge
sheets," said Wormington.

The run will take about two
hours, and is approximately 100
km in length. At the last stop there
will be games and entertainment
for participants, as well as a sup-
per,
This is only one of the three ma-
jor charity events organized by
RAM. The other two events in-
clude a Meet the -Kid Event, and a
Toy Run. The toys received from
that run go to the local Salvation
Army.
The Poker' Run will be held on
Saturday, rain or shine. Hope to
